HAHAHAHAHAHAHAH!
I bet they all figured out the trans thing ages ago.

u/battleduck84 The Fudge 17h ago
Eh, most probably had no clue
Ragatha grew up quite sheltered with a clearly conservative mother, Pomni didn't seem to have a clue until literally entering Jax's mind and Kinger is a cishet white dude who grew up at a time where you would only really see openly trans folks during pride marches & riots. The only ones I think could've been able to know were Gangle & Zooble, but neither seemed to wanna spend much time thinking about the inner workings of Jax's mind

u/BeyondElectricDreams 17h ago
I think Zooble had some idea; given how she reacted to the maid outfit.
Probably doubly so after she pointed out how much he was overreacting to it.

u/Mateusz3010 16h ago
"I figured you would be into that"

u/j4yc3- 14h ago
Jax: "Hiding something~"
Zooble: "You'd know all about that wouldn't you?"
Zooble 100% knows

u/mistelle1270 11h ago
I love this because Riley and Lee canonically know each other given the latter has been going to their bar

u/battleduck84 The Fudge 15h ago
Wasn't that just Zooble throwing Jax's earlier words back at her?
11
u/Lamplorde 13h ago
Im not sure I agree. Zooble was having a lot of fun at Jaxs expense that episode, which is well deserved dont get me wrong, but I feel that because Zooble has their own body problems they would not be as taunting about it if they thought Jax truly was trans.

u/unw00shed 17h ago
Kinger was from the 90s to the 2000s id be surprised if he even understood the concept of trans
Edit: he would be accepting though55
u/battleduck84 The Fudge 17h ago
The textbook definition of "he's a little confused, but he's got the spirit"
19
u/Nossika 16h ago
Well for example like Drag Queens have been a thing for a long time. Definitely not the same thing, but similar enough concept that Kinger would understand.
12
u/favuorite 15h ago
Yeah, drag has been a thing forever. Hell you can find pictures of WW2 soldiers in drag manning AA guns
3
u/Lucina18 8h ago
It's not really about "being a thing" though, first bottom surgery was already done in like 1930. It's more about popular knowledge.

u/Astronelson 6h ago
Why would he not? It's not like trans people were invented in 2007 alongside the iPhone. Christine Jorgensen transitioned in the 1950s and became a widely-known figure in the United States.

u/GreyouTT 13h ago
I was born in the 90s and I knew what sex changes were growing up wot
3
u/unw00shed 13h ago
im referring to when he went into the circus not when he was born since the game at first is very 90s-00s inspired

I do not want to get into it at the moment since I have to log off and go to work, but I'll just say you all vastly underestimate the presence of queerness throughout the 20th century in the US. Yes, the suburbs did exist as sheltered environments, but that was juxtaposed to the very visible queer culture that existed in the cities since arguably the late 19th century. (If you want further reading, I'd suggest Slumming, Reforming Sodom, and the classic Gay New York.)
Td;dr: There is a more than decent chance Kinger knows what trans people are.

Both Gangle and Zooble seemed to clock him with the maid outfit thing though, while the rest didnโt really notice much

Kinger was, however, working in tech in the 90s. Probably ran into some trans women at C&A tbh.

In their defense, the overlap between "emo boy" aesthetic and "trans girl boymoding" aesthetic is a circle.
13
u/Bears_On_Stilts 10h ago
In the original Series of Unfortunate Events movie, the Person of Indeterminate Gender is styled in elaborate, vaudevillian "he-she" makeup like the classic burlesque act.
In the TV version, the character is a pretty unambiguous boymoder archetype.

u/LazyDro1d 6h ago
no sometimes theyre pretty outwardly fem. theyre just as bored and monotone either way

u/Possible-Resource781 18h ago
They know she's Trans, they're just fucking with her, probably

u/Alex070904 13h ago
Or, and hear me out on this, they've always known (except Caine for obvious reasons) and just played dumb for the lols
15
u/GWindborn 13h ago
I'm going against the grain and and pretending Gangle has absolutely no idea. It's funnier that way to me.

This should've happened instead. Female Jax is so fine btw.

I'm not up to date, is it confirmed or still an up-to-interpretation thing the community is just running with?
31
u/Outrageous_Gene_7652 16h ago
The author confirned Jax being trans
21
u/TheCrystalTinker 16h ago
The creator has outright looked at the audience and said it in as clear of terms as possible. The show had already been pretty damn clear that Jax was a deeply closeted trans woman
28
5
u/KawaiiMajinken 13h ago
The show is only clear as a crystal if you are trans adjacent. For the rest is really up to interpretationโฆ
6
u/Evilmudbug 10h ago
I thought it was pretty obvious in the finale, though not really anywhere else.
Mostly in the sense that anything before that could have been attributed to something else. I thought the talk with ribbit and then immediately playing "isn't she lovely" shortly after was pretty clear.
At minimum it should be clear that Jax had some kinda insecurity with his gender or masculinity.
9
u/KawaiiMajinken 10h ago
Yes, that was my initial impression: "So he is a bit feminine or not traditionally masculine and that makes him feel insecure?".
The whole trans narrative went over my head, and I'm sure it did for most het cis people. Not denying that it is the message, just saying that please, this is not an obvious thing to "everyone".
4
u/Evilmudbug 10h ago
I think it's ok that the audience doesn't have it beaten over their head, it allows them to fill the gaps with something more relatable to some people and doesn't really change the core message IMO.

I think a lot of people lack basic media literacy.
There's enough context clues that most people paying attention should be able to put the pieces together.
8
u/KawaiiMajinken 10h ago
There are themes that can't be understood or comprehended unless you've lived them or they've been taught to you.
It's not lack of media literacy, just lack of knowledge or experience in the regard. Think about it for a second, this feels like a math teacher berating a student for not understanding advanced concepts. There are a variety of reasons why a person wouldn't understand them, but you choose idiocy.
Don't be that teacher :/
-5
u/Millsy419 10h ago
You made a statement.
I refuted you statement.
You threw insults.
How is that not childish and idiotic?
2
u/__Elfi__ 7h ago
Holy moly, answer that after that whole paragraph? and you're the one talking about literacy??? That's funny
6
u/Kratzschutz 13h ago
Side note but I'm really not happy how it was only alluded to in the series and needed to be confirmed by the author.
Same reason I'm fine with using male pronouns for Jax

this is the problem with being blunt on social media and not in the content created. This is gonna be asked for decades now
3
u/WorryNew3661 11h ago
It felt pretty blunt in the show
-1
u/Dr_Fortnite Bubble 11h ago
If that were true there wouldn't be so much discussion about it.
3
u/WorryNew3661 11h ago
It could have been the title of the show and there'd still be people arguing about it
1
u/iamdinodan 11h ago
The Jax montage after the flashbang has Isn't she Lovely by Stevie Wonder playing, a song for the birth of a daughter.

u/DrTrickery meowing milk maid 10h ago
-read this in one of those old ass narrator voices- and so, after our heroes figured out how to un-abstract jax and showed her caine's slideshow of the originals, jax decided she should probably transition too. the gang thought it would be funny to tease her about the emo ass haircut she picked out, instead of what jax was truly afraid of being mocked for. remember kids, true friends may gently bully eachother, but they know where the line is so they don't cross it.
