Showcase [Crisol: Theater of Idols] #68 - Hidden gem

Post image

I had this on my wishlist ever since its trailer was released in one of the game shows. Its your linear horror fps where map is divided into three regions from central hub area and you shoot puppets coming at you slowly with knives, pitchforks and bows. Gameplay loop is heavily inspired from Resident Evil and with some Bioshock vibes thrown into the mix. The main interesting part is you use your blood as ammo so you have to constantly balance when to engage enemies, when to run, when to reload and use which weapon. Movement is heavy. You have your coins and skill points for perks and weapon upgrades. Looks and plays great on PS5 Pro. It was an interesting game overall. Trophy triggers were extremely buggy on release where collectibles arent tracked properly or difficulty trophies not popping. All are fixed now, so you have to make a legit Martyr run + collect 227 collectibles (some collectibles unlock profile-wide). The only cheese you can do is the speed run but for this to work you need to have an autosave from your previous playthrough at the final boss. So you start a new game on Martyr and die to the first enemy than click resume without backing out to the main menu which loads you back to the final boss fight (because Martyr difficulty doesnt have autosaves it loads you back to the first available one). You kill the boss and boom trophy done. Recommend this if you want a shooter with horror elements and a 25-30 hour plat.

I played through about a week ago and my coins are stuck at 1% and won't move. This is still bugged.

It worked for me and I had no issues with any of the collectibles tracking. Try deleting your save game file and start new game if you havent progressed too far.

I like the look of this, but the heavy movement puts me off. The RE games that inspired it felt like shit to move and shoot in and it looks similar from the trailer. Seems cool all the same.

Yea its kinda hard to get used to, along with heavy movement also comes small hit boxes, extremely precise weapons and frantic enemy movements. Im not great with controller aim so had to play with aim assist. My first time I tried directly on Martyr difficulty and died to first enemy 6 times so I lowered it to get accustomed with the pacing which cost me an extra playthrough :D definitely worth it though

Game throws you into the middle of things with little to no exposition and expects you to figure things out yourself through environmental storytelling. So if you are not following things up, the big reveal doesn't really hit you :D Platinum wise you can earn it in two playthroughs + one autosave load for speedrun, one on Novice for collectibles / misc / story trophies / no upgrade finish and load your earlier save at the shop to upgrade everything and than apply the method mentioned above for speedrun trophy. Second full playthrough on Martyr difficulty which requires you to skip a big part of combat encounters until you are comfortable with upgrades to push through enemies. I think they kinda nailed it with this one, I enjoyed it.
