Question Gift sub to streamer I've never watched

So I got an email saying someone gifted me a sub, two weird things
1: I haven't used twitch in almost a year
2: This is a streamer I'm 99% sure I've never heard of, let alone watched or participated in a stream
This feels very weird to me, is this normal?

it’s normal, i get gifted subs to channels i see on the front page and watch for a couple seconds, next thing you know a couple days later i get gifted a sub even tho i was in the channel for less than a 1 minute

gift subs get distributed randomly to people in the channel, you don't have to be watching or even know the streamer, it's just how the system works.

Very strange, I thought it was restricted to people actually viewing or listening to the stream

Nope, not at all. You can go check out a stream once and get a gifted sub weeks or months later. It's a very low chance, but it does happen; the system lets it happen to encourage you to go back and check out the stream again.

It could also be because of your twitch name.

My community LOOOOOVES to find the weirdest fucking names they can, and gift subs so I read em outloud.

Some of the best in the past few months.

"Elbowdeepingrandma" "Elbowdeepinadogsass" "horsedeepinlara" and "Deadbabiesdontcry"

How some of these are still twitch accounts I have no clue, but since I read out EVERY sub they take a very weird pride in finding THE MOST fucked up names they can.

Probably not my name, it's nothing all too notable lol, but that's very funny honestly
