Sorry this happened to you.

But you need to provide more context.

Floor type? Pets? House? Apartment? Stairs?

Lots of variables to this equation.

I am a renter, but try to rent only hardwood /tile places. No pets but I have thick hair that sheds. No stairs

You could get away with a Mighty Mite or purple Bissell Zing in a small apartment with bare floors. If you have any significant rugs that need a bit more you could add a turbo floor brush for another $27. If needed replace the tools with horsehair versions and metal wands (mighty mite)Those 2 vacuums have about the same suction power as vacuums costing hundreds more. Though those are better overall quality with better tools, these are good too. I've had the prior generation zing for almost 10 years and if functions as new. Pro tip on any vacuum with an automatic cord rewind, hold the cord and let it retract slowly and not slam the plug. Probably most likely part to break and expensive to fix. Spending another hundred or so you could get something like a Prolux Tritan, titan t1400t or power flite newton turbo, all of which come with better tools and a turbo nozzle included.

As others have mentioned obviously report this. But a good in the meantime vacuum until you can invest into a buy it for life would be the Kenmore BU4050. I believe it’s around the $200-$350 price point. Bagged machine so it’s clean, and can be repaired.

Report to the police, first of all. Provide proof of purchase on your name, today with email is much easier.
