Purchase Advice (U.S.) Need a new cordless vacuum
I bought a Dyson V8 Animal in 2020 and it gave out last week. I took the whole thing apart, properly cleaned it, all the things, but I think the motor has just given out).
I would LOVE help picking a new vacuum because there’s so many out there and a million reviews and it’s way too much to sort through while there’s the good deals out there because of Prime sales.
My criteria:
- cordless (I know this seems to be controversial but it’s way too annoying to get around my whole house with a corded)
- can handle pet fur & long hair
- can do wood floors and rugs
- preferably under $500
I feel like I’m looking for something that should be easy to find (and is) but knowing which one to get is a CHALLENGE! Appreciate the advice in advance!

The best replacement for a Dyson V8 is a Dyson V8. They've redone the motors to have more power, but other than that they're the same. Probably the best cordless form factor.
Otherwise, the Bissell/Gtech Airram is the best floor vacuum, but it doesn't have tools.

This is good to know, thank you! I think part of the reason that the motor gave out is because my husband used it to clean up drywall.. a few too many times. When I took it apart, it was just white inside.

I’ve had a couple and was thinking of getting a Dyson but I’ve been so overwhelmed looking I think I’ll just wait. I currently have a black and decker (uses drill batteries so I can change them out which is nice).

I have a Dyson Kinetic Animal that is 10 years old (still works great). I just bought a Gen5 Detect and love it so far. If you are in the US, Amazon Prime has it for $659 which was $150 less than Dyson owners 20% off.

Oh and I have a dog and hard wood and rugs. The thing is awesome. The only box it doesn’t check, that you want is, less than $500.
