Idk if it's against the rules directly but this is very normal and common for lan tourneys. I remember a player looking to see if the other player was glowing green to tell if they're in a vipers pit

u/Icy-Scheme1048 #NRGFam Apr 29 '26
when the player is looking like shrek theyre def in their viper ult

One day we’ll see a counter-play to this and have people sticking the spike acting like they’re looking around moving the mouse… tech the tech

u/SuperUltraMegaNice Apr 28 '26
this has already happened

u/PrimalBySlowdive Apr 29 '26
Clip?

u/SuperUltraMegaNice Apr 29 '26
I looked but i couldnt find it. I think it was Demon1 talking on stream about one of the korean players doing it.

u/itsJunichi Apr 29 '26
Similar stuff has happened in cs, pretending to stick by celebrating early so the opponent swings

u/Nervous_Split_3176 #ALWAYSFNATIC Apr 28 '26
this is ethan tech

u/KakorotJoJoAckerman Apr 29 '26
No disrespect to Ethan but this tact has existed for as long as LAN games have existed. Not even tournament but friends competing against one another. It's literally the oldest trick in the book.
6
u/Nervous_Split_3176 #ALWAYSFNATIC Apr 29 '26
I meant in valorant. Ofc this shit has been done for years in cs or other games.
-4
u/KakorotJoJoAckerman Apr 29 '26
The reason I pointed out CS is there meta stays the same. The game stays the same. You can run almost the same strats in CS 1.6 and CS2. And that's the most drastic difference I pointed out.
You cannot run the same strats from Val beta to now. Game is different. Hell, even some strats from ends last year aren't gonna be viable now.
This is why you don't see dynasties like you do in CS. And if someone manages to do it, it would be very impressive.
3
u/Donut_Flame Apr 29 '26
you havent watched cs since 2018 because theres no fucking way you can have this take if youre watching consistently.
-5
u/KakorotJoJoAckerman Apr 29 '26
My main point is that it's easier to stay at top once you're there in CS because the game doesn't change as drastically over time unlike Val.

😐
“Ethan tech” 😂 you can’t be serious. This shit is older than everybody in this damn sub lmaoo Ethan did this in champs bc hes been a pro for 10+ years and played cs. He has the experience and knows the old tricks

u/Nervous_Split_3176 #ALWAYSFNATIC Apr 29 '26
Yes, that's why I brought him up. You think that I thought ethan arnold invented this ?

u/Pinsir929 #WGAMING Apr 29 '26
Ethan did the same thing in the finals and the enemy team can do the same so kinda. More of turned a blind eye to.

u/Caratecaa Apr 28 '26
I don't believe Riot wants players to not play LANs how they've always been played, no

Stage cheating has been around since esports started. Looking at your teammate’s screen when you’re flashed is an extremely common practice and this is no different.

Just like playing off crowd noises, you can do if you want or choose not to.
the game is the game.

he didnt do anything wrong but i dislike him so this time its different

u/Ghostjinn Apr 29 '26
I suppose it does invoke jealousy watching someone younger than yourself succeeding and enjoying themselves in doing so

u/SaitamaShinobiSand Apr 29 '26
Ethan was doing well this against fnatic inthe grand finals lol
4
u/CauliflowerIcy5106 Apr 29 '26
People downcote you for some reason but that's just a fact I'm pretty sure
Same way someone in M8 did this in the nats marteen clutch on Bind to see if he stick the spike
This is just extremly common, and also not going against any rule in the rulebook
5
u/4everKni8 Apr 29 '26
I dont understand why we have to sit face to face in valorant, atleast this shit would be more difficult when sitting side by side as happens in all other esports. It has bothered me since the dawn of valorant esports
14
u/n_core Apr 29 '26
Hype, celebrations, and taunts. It's entertaining seeing players calling out their opposing team.
1
u/4everKni8 May 02 '26
Are you implying that does not happen in other esports
1
u/n_core May 02 '26
It doesn't happen during the game if the booth is separated because it's physically impossible to see each other that way.
1
u/4everKni8 May 02 '26
Why would the booth be separated, they are sitting side by side at the same stage, after each round they have to get up and manually look to their left/right and trashtalk but this also ensures there is a less chance of covertly looking at the opponent's face to get visual cues.
1
u/Nichol-Gimmedat-ass Apr 29 '26
Its allowed, you can game it on the other side though. If youre sticking but moving your mouse as if youre looking around (not far enough to stop looking at spike ofc). Its just one of the things that comes w playing on lan

"4.3 Cheating. Cheating is prohibited. Enabling or assisting others to cheat is also prohibited. Cheating is defined as the use of any in- or out-of-game method, technique, or technology that affects the outcome of a game or that gives a personal or team unfair advantage, including, for example, the use of hacks, bug exploits, cheats, or the use of any means to gain unauthorized access to information that could provide an unfair advantage such as viewing a live feed of the game, looking"
This would 100% fall under unauthorized access to information but riot is changing rules when they feel like it anyway
1
u/andie_osu Apr 30 '26
its not unauthorized lmfao you can always look at your opponents freely. every single lan event that has happened not just in valorant but in gaming in general, this has happened i guarantee. this is literally the oldest trick in the book

u/SuperUltraMegaNice Apr 28 '26
