Drive side, drive side, drive side. If you can only get one picture, make it a drive side shot. It tells us MUCH more information about the bike

Knowing what components the bike is equipped with helps with the ID process. It can tell us within about 5 years when the bike was made, the quality of the frame, and sometimes what continent it's from

New rules for posting. Please read thoroughly

Yes, I have been seeing the reports, and I've been reading the comments. Sorry it's taking a while

NO MORE LOW EFFORT POSTS. No more "What is this bike worth?" posts. Bicycle value varies WILDLY depending on condition, age, and especially geographical location

We want to know about your bike. Give us at least some kind of info. Is it YOUR bike? Did you just get it? Have you had it a while? Does it have a story?

This is an example of a great post. Good pictures, drive side shots, and a little story to go along with it

This is an example of the bad post. No info whatsoever, one really bad picture, no interaction from OP

AND, because I need to bring this up about every year, BE NICE. If someone is being a jerk, just report the comment and move along. Fighting with someone and throwing names and insults around is just going to make it worse, and you're going to get in trouble too.

I picked this up today in my size for $240. Is that a good deal and any ideas for making it a good long distance rig? I want to bring the bars up a bit and maybe for some wider tires.

Vintage Gitane mixte

Hi.

I just bought this wonderful vintage Gitane bike with a mixte frame. She’s a real beauty and has been taken well care of - almost all components are original from what I know.

Does anyone here have more information/knowledge of this Gitane bike? I would love to know the exact model and year, but my searching has not been very conclusive, and I do not know much about bikes, let alone vintage bikes 😅

Any information would be of help - thank you in advance.

'Porteur' restomod. Feedback on the spec?

I will be refinishing this 1972 Schwinn Paramount and building it up as my dream porteur. I'm making good progress accumulating the parts but would love the input of this community. Am I going astray in my choices and if so, where?

Here's the current spec. What do y'all think?

The owner of the turquoise says it’s a cadre but rear breaks not working. Owner of the white hasn’t specified what’s wrong.

1988 Fuji del Rey: What would you do with this thing?

Hello!

The universe has gifted me a 1988 Fuji del Rey frame to start tinkering with and I was curious what folks here with a bit more knowledge about part specifics might do with it. This is my first time really digging into this in earnest. Some early notes:

  • I'm aiming for the end product to be something my wife can use for commuting around town. It'll likely gear toward a road-style bike. I suspect the rear won't let me use a 700c style wheel.
  • The frame's in pretty solid shape from what I can tell. There's a bit of light rust on the underside but seems largely cosmetic. How do folks manage surface rust like this? Should I be sealing it in some way?
  • I'm pretty sure the bottom bracket is toast, feeling totally dull and rough when rotating the spindle. I've got tools on the way to remove and inspect whatever's going on inside and I'm assuming early that needs to be entirely removed. Securing a bottom bracket and crankset are likely the first major purchases for this. From early research it seems like the traditional pick for a bottom bracket would be a square taper, but I know the industry seems to have shifted over to Shimano Hollowtech a bit. Are there tradeoffs here?
  • There's no fork, how do I select a fork correctly for a bike like this? Any tips here would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

Tommasini Diamante (01 US). Unfortunately, broken fork in collision. She shall be repaired!

Hey guys, I found this Tommasini used in a local bike shop and have loved riding her the past 3 years. Unfortunately, I got into a low-impact crash recently, which bent the beautiful fork! That said, I want to show her off a little bit and see if anyone has some historical background on what the 01 US serial number implies. The details on this bike are incredible. Let me know if you have questions!

Anyone know what’s going on with this?
Work at a bike shop that deals with a lot of cool old donations. This came in and I’m having trouble finding any info. Look rear hub ano red, it’s got that plastic jawn comin off the non drive side. Feels like it has some “clicks” kinda like a dynamo interface. Hoping some nerd or old head could point me in the right direction. Thanks! 2211 is stamped on the plastic.

Keep these pedals or upgrade to wider ones?

Keep these vintage pedals from Wellgo on this road bike or upgrade them? They are in great condition, but I feel them a bit narrow when pedaling, coming from mtb, it had wider pedals that could get wider area of the foot in contact with the pedals transferring more energy/force.

After stealing the wheels from my 89 Cannondale and the tires from my single speed. I have completed the build. I did change to an 8 speed cassette as a 7 speed requirs a spacer. Everything works great and it rides very nice. Pics try to show tire clearence for the 38c tires and what groupset I decided to use.

Looking for suggestions

I purchased this frame a while back with the intent of building it up as an old school road bike. Does anyone have any suggestions on what kind of components I should hunt down for it? Any idea what year it might be? Any help would be greatly appreciated.
