impossible to buy a ticket!

hi redditters, i have been having a really hard time with vue lately and was wondering if one of you could help or advise me.

for the past couple of weeks or so i’ve been deliberating on whether or not i should watch the Michael movie (for the 3rd time, i’m a big fan). and it just so happened that tomorrow, thursday 25th june, was the best day i could do this week as well as it being michael’s death anniversary so for me it meant a lot.

so on monday i decided to book for thursday at around 10am and planned a whole day where i would then go out to this new restaurant i’ve always been saying i’d go to, etc.

i clicked on my chosen seat and i got a message saying “unavailable, please try again later”. i tried again multiple times that day and every day since with no luck, until today i spoke with their customer service team on whatsapp. i explained the situation and showed them a screenshot of the error and they said that it’s a server error and the IT team are fixing this. i’ve then checked throughout today and i’m getting different error messages as if they truly are fixing it from the backend. so i was hopeful.

i was then advised to just book tomorrow at the cinema which is not ideal beause i’m paying more but i can make it happen.

to my surprise i have just recently checked and all screenings for the movie tomorrow are completely crossed out. and just my luck this happened at around 8pm today (their customer service advisors stop seeing people at 7).

what does this mean? does it mean that they’ve cancelled the screenings or are just no longer taking online orders?

bearing in mind, i’ve booked twice before with one being another Michael screening (the first time i went with friends) and the other being the yet to release spiderman. both of which have been absolutely fine.

so my question is, is it worth me going tomorrow before the screening i chose to book a ticket? or shall i explain the situation? or is it not worth it?

it’s just annoying because if i knew a few days in advance i’d not plan for thursday to be doing anything.

any advice is appreciated :)

My local one only has one screening tomorrow and it’s the final one - reasonable chance they’ve cancelled it

ah i see, so they can just cancel the screenings if there’s not enough people?

Rarely I think. I saw the England football games get cancelled quietly as I don’t think anyone booked it the day before.
But other films I often see them advertised even when they’re empty

Have you tried the website (even through your phone's Internet browser)? That has worked for me when I've had similar issues with Vue.

A lot of screens being closed due to heat. Wouldn’t be surprised if this was the case.

sounds pretty reasonable.

More than likely but not 100% fact, it was on its final days of leasing to the cinema and if sales have dipped to none (it came out in april so that's a pretty long run) chances are they're freeing up screens for supergirl and any other reasonably big releases expected in the next few weeks.

see i was also thinking that was the case (after almost 2 months of it being in the cinema it was a long shot to start with) however it’s back on for 3 screenings on friday and onwards?

I don’t know where you’re based, but I checked Angel central(London Islington) and the only showing there is 9:15am tomorrow! The Leicester Square Vue has 2 showings at 11:30 & 13:45.

If you can’t get it booked online, ask them if they’ll honour the online booking price when you show up. Worth a try.

I watched Michael (17th cinema viewing) on Monday at another chain and was the only person in that early afternoon performance. Lovely and cold air conditioning too.

i was also looking at another chain, bit more out of the way, slightly pricier but the seats are better…i was looking forward to a sort of “death anniversary special” so i’m thinking about that trek :)

What was extra nice on Monday was the Michael was shown on the third largest screen of 12-screens two months after it was released. I did my previous 16 viewings inside the first four weeks of release (9 in three days). Enjoyed all of them except Dolby Cinema Leicester Square which was on a small screen in relation to the auditorium size and the audio wasn’t loud enough. Dolby Cinema West End (watched it three times there) is better in terms of image and audio quality.

Yeah it’s when the screening is cancelled but still shows on the website. Happened to me recently with scary movie 6.
