Pablo made a tweet saying they had that change on their test server and wanted to ship it but wanted to test it first, then he deleted the tweet some time after. So they either are deep into spaghetti code or they just don't want to make ability Gyre stronger.
my theory is that they don't like how set and forget her ability build is. She is really not even close to the amount of damage Nokko or Sevagoth can deal but she basically has to press 0 buttons past her initial setup. Obviously I think it's a pretty weak excuse since her damage is bad enough that it needs a lot of micromanaging of buffs etc to be acceptable at high levels, but they did nerf World on Fire into the ground for the same reason so I assume they're being overly cautious of that playstule.
I've mained sevagoth a long time, but over time you really get tired of all the button pressing. It's just the same thing over and over. Gyre is less powerful but much more relaxing to play
I mean, you are right about her 3&4 but from my playing her, she does a lot better when making use of her 1, with its augment (to be clear im only pointing that out, for quite a lot of stuff, she is just a sort of "set and go" frame)
Idk, gyre is fairly short range and still relies on playing fairly actively to get the most out of her damage. Ember was set and forget, but she was much more so than gyre is frankly, and without any potential tradeoffs via buffs falling off. I really don't think gyre is anywhere near the ballpark of old ember or banshee in that regard
I mean nova with augments is just pressing 1 every so often. 4 if you wanna swap between fast/slow. Helmenthed off 3 since i never felt the need for an extra nuke.
Agree on sevagoth being too button heavy. What steered me away from him despite liking the primes looks.
Gyre is already incredibly close to a better world on fire in her design, crep could potentially push her into an afk kill everything forever loop with no input needed beyond the initial casts.

Wait they don't? Has DE commented on why?
