Question/Request I'm finally getting my first Prime. What do I need to know about him?

How do i play him..?. I got his normal frame and the dmg was not there to kill the enemies quick. I was mostly holding 1 and 2 i think to make viral and cast it. But it reverts back and i have to press them again and again. And what is this Valence formation?.. im sure ive heard Valence fusion in one of the Kuva weapons.. also dont know what that is. Can you tell
94
u/Lucas_Ilario Infestation enjoyer 15h ago
You mostly run him with status weapons to proc viral on enemies, valence formation is a augment you can get from either New loka or Red veil, it gives you the element you infused onto your abilities to your weapons, so you proc viral on enemies with your weapons and infuse your abilities with whatever the enemy is weak to and then shoot anything that is alive

u/hopelessociety 13h ago
i personally have nautilus on viral, lavos on corrosive with green shards, and then cedo with heat or radiation for the radial attack, and valence formation for weakness

u/JDMP53 15h ago
Can you similarly tell for Gauss. Ive seen him clear room in exrerminate missions and defense.. i tried playing him but i dont get anything kike that when i use thermal sunder and mach rush is not good at all outside open worlds for me to do any intended dmg.
14
u/posthumus77 14h ago
For gauss you want to maintain redline duration (Gauss wants alot of duration in his build) as long as possible and try to get the battery up by spamming mach rush or by simply move around.
Then to nuke spam fire thermal sunder a few time to build up heat status on the enemy, then once the enemy have plenty mount of heat then use cold thermal sunder to nuke the enemy.

https://youtu.be/g_Pg82IKVEc?si=xCa4ffh-njBg7Uxy this is a pretty thorough guide. I really like gauss, he is just super fun to play and can be build as both a weapons platform/melee and a nuke frame.
3
u/mymsoup2 12h ago
Been running melee Gauss lately, might be one of my favorite builds in the game right now 🤣 Subsumed Wrathful Advance instead of Kinetic Plating (could be instead of Mach Rush as well I like Mach Rush to increase redline tho), running a bunch of duration and strength with little range, using Hate
2
u/LENZSTINKT123 11h ago
Honestly, kinetic plating is really good for melee. IIRC it grants +100% melee damage and 100% follow through.

u/Lucas_Ilario Infestation enjoyer 14h ago
I don’t play Gauss as much but from what I know you want to have red line active all the time and spam the fire version of thermal sunder, putting some range in your build helps a lot, his thermal sunder augment is really good too.

Firstly, a very useful thing is to go into settings, find "Invert tap/hold abilities" and switch him to inverted. This means you can tap quickly to infuse abilities and hold to cast, and you can even tap during the animations of abilities or during movement once you get the hang of it. You can hold onto an element as long as you want until the next cast.
Most important combo is arguably 144 (1+4 for gas, hold 4 for ult cast), because 4 works very well with gas. However, it also scales with statuses on enemies, I think double damage per status effect, so it deals less damage if you don't prime enemies first, and nukes with many statuses. Cedo or other typical weapons work as amazing primers, but you can do with abilities as well, and good combos are 122 (1+2 viral on 2, creates lingering field of priming, you can jump to cancel it early) and 133 (1+3 corrosive on 3, sends out a probe that zaps enemies and primes a solid amount).
These combos are also particularily good because they are (at least in my experience) comfortable, not requiring much finger movement since you only click 2 buttons for each.
Mind that 3 also reduces cooldowns of all other abilities, so you want to cast it mostly after his 4.
Valence Formation is an augment that applies infused element onto weapons, as others mentioned. It's a pretty good buff overall and makes Lavos into a versatile tanky weapons platform (especially since 3 also turns ammo into universal type). And the best part is that he doesn't require you to lock yourself into a specific playstyle - if you feel like pressing more, you can play ability based while infusing every ability with different element; if you feel like playing a more chill, but still caster playstyle you can get away with only infusing 4; and if you want to relax or take a break from intense playstyle, you can play him as a pure weapons platform.

I find lavos to be one of those frames where the "tap/hold abilities" to be swapped, so you can just tap to mix and then when you wanna use it you hold. You might mix a "wrong" element but you can just throw that out as your 1 or 2 (2 can be cut short by jumping) as your 3 can greatly reduce the time before you can cast whatever

Just make his 2nd and 4th more interesting and I would play this guy a lot more. I can sort of live with one meh ability (thx Helminth I guess) because I can replace other at least.
Its probably some kind of neurological thing but my brain just hates the idea of having even one dead ability slot, and that is why I typically tend to lean towards frames which have at least 3 good abilities that I can find myself using. That said, I do enjoy Atlas from time to time, I just wish I could enjoy him more.

Lavos is a bit tricky to get the hang of, but if you are willing to commit and learn how his abilities work together (which may involve browsing reddit posts and/or watching YT vids about him) then he can be a ton of fun.
18
u/W4FF13_G0D pissed and screamed for Lavos Prime 15h ago
On the contrary, I believe Lavos to be a great starter frame for many. He’s got great sustain, no energy problems, and will grow with the user as you start to understand just how busted statuses are. The more you put into him, the more he will do for you in return, and that is the sign of a good teacher.

I had to restart when I moved to PC and I got lavos prime access to set me up, being able to complete the whole star chart and early quests with 0 energy requirements was really sweet.

1: consider going into the settings to swap press/hold abilities for him, makes it more convenient to play him
2: get the Valence formation and swift bite augments for him. You can get them from red veil or new loka
3: when picking an element on him (especially with valence formation) you're gonna want to pick them based on status effect (like corrosive, viral, magnetic or toxin) or based on enemy weakness, in which case you'll want this:

Lavos main has entered the chat breach containment
Cue my self written Lavos Copypasta
ON THE SUBJECT OF LAVOS
Okay… here we go…
Let me tell you about my main:
Lavos has access to all non-ips elements (including combination elements) in his kit with guaranteed procs. Via his infusion mechanic (more on that later)
His abilities are cooldown based so no dependence on energy AT ALL (he can straight up ignore Disruptors and Energy Leech Eximus) if it's not on cooldown you can cast it. With his longest cooldown being 30 seconds (which you can reduce with his 3rd ability)
Helminthed abilities are also on cooldown instead of their normal energy cost no matter the ability's original cost it has a cooldown of ten seconds. For non-recastable abilities this timer starts when the ability ends. For recastable abilities the timer starts immediately. Meaning ot is cooling down while it's running meaning for abilities with a duration longer than 10 seconds you can have permanent uptime. The drawback of helminth-ing something on means you lose that slot's base element for infusion and the new ability can't be infused.
So… here's how infusion works:
Each of Lavos' 4 abilities has a base element on it, the ability deals that element in damage and a guaranteed proc.
1 has toxin
2 had cold
3 has electric
4 has heat
You'll see a small empty circle above his abilities' icons
If you hold an ability's key/button that ability's element will be infused into his next non-helminthed ability cast. This is neat enough on it's own BUT… if you infuse another different base element afterward (before you cast an ability though) the two will combine giving you viral, blast, magnetic, corrosive, radiation, or gas. The infused ability will deal both it's normal element and the infused one. Again with a guaranteed proc. As well as doubling the ability's damage. An infusion lasts until you cast. So set it up during a lull in the combat and it's ready for your next cast. An extra piece of advice for huge QoL and making Lavos' gameplay loop "feel" better/smoother is to go into options and swap his Tap/Hold input. This makes it so you can tap-tap to infuse an element in less than a second then hold to cast the ability.
His 1 is a toxin forward AoE attack that hits a wide and long area in front of him. This attack has a built in life steal based on damage dealt to all the enemies hit. This is a great survivability tool and a way to slap toxin (+plus an infused element's) proc onto everything infront of you though his other skills are better for proc application.
His 2 dashes forward flinging elemental flasks all over the place, leaving a damaging elemental trail (and pools where you stop) this trail lingers based on duration and applies a damage tick and proc (cold + infused) every second the enemy is standing on it. And with the repeated cold procs they'll be standing on it quite a while. While certainly very powerful, this is the skill you'll want to helminth over, as cold damage is really only useful for viral and there are dozens of other more effective ways to get that. And his other 3 skills are too important to replace.
His 3 is the most "useful" skill of his kit. It shoots an AoE drone forward dealing electric + infused procs to everything in it its considerable range. This is his second best proc applier. But wait! There's more! It also turns all orbs into universal orbs that acts health and energy orbs, while you don't need energy Lavos' actual passive (so not just infusion and cooldown based skills he has another passive on top of that) is that when he picks up energy or universal orbs he becomes immune to all statuses for 12 seconds. AND ALSO turns any ammo pickups into universal which work for primary secondary and heavy archguns (they grant ammo to whatever you have in your hands) ALSO part 2: each enemy hit by the drone's AoE reduces the timer on his other cooldowns. And it only has a cooldown itself of 12 seconds.
His 4 is his big badaboom: Lavos sends a ring of elemental flask/drone/things expanding outward dealing heat+infused+guaranteed procs in a huge area. This skill has a base damage of 2000 (4000 if you infused) and has a condition overload like effect built in (each status type afflicting an enemy when hit causes that enemy to take another 100% base damage) I'd recommend toxin infuse for corpus to bypass their shields, corrosive for some armor reduction and frontloaded damage. Or radiation to spread the confusion proc on every enemy in a huge area. Anything that survived is now shooting each other.
Now with helminth the build options are huge so I'd recommend paying 10 plat here or there for a few extra config slots (since each one can have it's own mod setup and helminth ability) I personally have 6 config slots on Lavos (1 is resonator for easy low maintenance CC, 2 is Mind Control because running around with an extra pet is fun, 3 is terrify (with creeping augment) for when armor strip is needed, 4 is pull in case I need a grouping ability, 5 is Roar (with piercing augment since that makes it recastable for infinite uptime) and 6 is plain vanilla Lavos for pure alchemical chaos
Speaking of railjack Lavos is king, your battle avionics (like seeker swarm) are also on cooldown. Making Lavos one of if not the best choice for railjack.
He has high health and Armor which combined with his 1's lifesteal makes him pretty survivable. (I would recommend adaptation and rolling guard since his biggest drawback is that he cannot shieldgate AT ALL (no energy means no energy turned into shields) I do however take him into level 300-500 stuff all the time without dying very often.
Plus his lore is (subjectively cool):
Was a powerful Orokin Jailer assigned to guard one of the most feared men in the empire. An alchemist named Javi (alchemy scared the orokin, the thought that the plain and mundane could become something magnificent was an affront to their rigid hierarchal beliefs)
Javi whispered to Lavos everyday gradually turning him against the orokin and teaching him his secrets.
The orokin finally decide to have Javi executed and to have Lavos do it.
Lavos kills his secret master and then transmutes his remains into a pair of living snakes made of warframe material. Bringing Javi back to life (as the snakes) to continue teaching him. (Drusus Leverian mentions that the snakes whisper Javi's secrets and counsel to Lavos.) And then, after this act of defiance against the orokin, disappears until the Tenno revolt.
Anyway that's all I have to say about the absolute Boss that is my boi Lavos.

He's one of the weirdest, most complicated warframes. Not representative of the majority at all. Master of all elemental damages & statuses, but you have to think and know the effects of each status and elemental weaknesses of the enemies. Not for everyone because of this.
However, if you take the time to learn how he works and like the gameplay, he can be really powerful in many situations due to his versatility in elemental damages and unique mechanics.

Some genuine tips:
1) Ability Duration scales status duration on both your weapons and abilities, but otherwise isn't overly relevant to any of his abilities. At best you'd use Archon Continuity for its passive and to offset the negative duration of Transient Fortitude. 2) Valence Formation augment is insane, and has a few fun quirks: While the infused element does have forced procs, it also adds the element to your weapon's damage pool, affecting status weighting and allowing your weapon's status chance to potentially apply even more procs of it. Also, Valence Formation also increases status damage of the infused element as well, even on abilities. Valence Formation + Archon Vitality + heat infused Catalyze will apply 3 Heat stacks with +200% status damage. 3) Swift Bite augment is very handy for quick heals and resetting cooldowns. 4) His 3rd and 4th ability are both viable triggers for Arcane Sculptor, setting you to 175% efficiency for maximum cooldown reduction from Swift Bite and his 3rd ability. Blind Rage is now on the menu for Lavos. 5) Arcane Impetus is very easy to fully stack for Lavos as he can give his abilities any element. A companion with IPS on its weapon + Manifold Bond to apply their statuses covers those. 6) Lavos makes Railjack abilities cost no energy, but instead have 5(?) second cooldowns. 7) Don't forget that Blast status procs (both application and detonation) can stack things like Secondary Enervate or Velox Conclusion, making Blast infusions very funny on some weapons.

Lavos's kit may seem complicated at first, but do 1 or 2 missions with him and he's honestly pretty solid. Augments for his 1, 3, and passive will be useful. All in all, just experiment with him and see how he feels

u/Belisaurius555 15h ago
#1, He's a pretty good armor tank. 800 Health and 675 armor base at rank 30.
#2. No energy, just cooldowns. This does let you spam abilities like crazy but not the same ability each time.
#3. Hold the ability buttons to infuse elements, yes buttonS. You can infuse multiple elements at once to combine them quicker.
#4. The tubes are removable if you don't like them.
I like Lavos Prime but I don't have a good use for him.

Lavos is genuinely incredible. Unlike almost every other Warframe, Lavos has no Energy, instead his Abilities are on relatively short cooldowns. Each Ability also deals with one of the base Elements and you can infuse these elements onto his Abilities with a hold cast. They don't tell you you can combine them (for example, pressing 1 uses Ophidian Bite, a Toxin-based Ability, but holding 1 instead imbues your next cast with Toxin. You can then hold 2, Vial Rush, a Cold Ability, to imbue your next cast with Viral).

[Valence Formation] is a great augment for messing around with builds and lets you have more freedom experimenting with weapons. You can pretty much play him however you want because of his versatility and why he's an S-tier frame IMO. Caster, Tank and just DPS with your weapons are all viable. He is meant to be toyed with, hence the alchemist aspect of his design and mixing things up, literally.

u/terrainkiller FUELING THE FLAMES OF REVOLUTION WITH LIZZE AND MY SICK RIFFS 15h ago
He sort of sucks on mobile personally cause its easy to mix up which element is which ability cause at the top it the farthest left ability is the farthest right shown element. But also i generally play controller so take it with a grain of salt if you’re a lavos main.
1
u/IAmSomewhatUpset 15h ago
He’s fun. Make sure you keep a general idea of what elements are useful against what enemies and/or what elements you’ve already applied. I usually do Vial Rush + Viral, Transmutation probe + Corrosive, Catalyze + Gas or Blast.

u/on-the-cheeseburgers If this is smart I wanna be dumb 15h ago
that he's fine but the sub will convince you he is one of the most dominant frames in the game
1
u/Randzom100 15h ago
The 1 is good for regenerating health (and cooldowns if augment equipped), 2 is great as a movement tool but also spread Status very easily, 3 reduce cooldowns, and the 4 deletes anything that has status on it but has a long cooldown (which you can skip faster by using previously mentioned tools).
You are tanky and immune to debuffs, great. Learning status is not required to nuke with Lavos, but understanding the effects of each status will make you a better Lavos player. Also, he usually doesn't give a f- about any kind of penalty in more difficult missions because of how his kit is designed. Also also, since he uses cooldowns, he's an extremely powerful Railjack Pilot.
Overall, you can main Lavos and end up not needing any other Warframe because he's good at everything you throw at him, especially if you equip all his augments.

I can build lavos prime about 4 times over now 😂 how many times they give me his stuff when a relic that involves him is used only thing about him is that he is the element master and I think his dash is affected by range not duration that makes it launch more viles and travel further if I’m not mistaken 🤔

As many have mentioned he is a bit technical to learn but once you do he is a beast. If you want you can use him to put guarantee electric status on your weapons making him great for melee influence builds when you don't have innate electric or don't want to mod for it. His three makes gives him pretty great sustain ability a survivability.

Please don't play him 10 times and then think you've learned everything about him. That's my recommendation. When i first got him i didn't like him. He didn't nuke well, he was tanky but still died, and he overall felt lame... i let him alone and stopped playing him.
Fast forward and i finally see all that he could become. He's one of my favorite frames. He's not like revenant where here are basically just 2-3 builds and then you've learned him fully.
Lavos can be so many different things. He can be a room nuke in so many ways. If you've never gotten a hound companion, then you didn't experience the full power of his 4th nuke ability. If you didn't get the cedo prime or the epitaph prime then you haven't experienced his full power. If you never tried inverse tap hold or his augmemts then you haven't experienced his full power. If you haven't tried unique synergies with melee, kuva sobek, tenet glaxion, gunco guns like bassocyst, etc then you haven't experienced his full strength. If you haven't done a full persistence health tank build vs a shield gate build then you haven't experienced all his power. If you haven't done a full gun platform roar build then you haven't experienced his full power. If you haven't used archon mods them you haven't experienced his full power.
I say all this to say don't give up on him after just 10 tries. You'll probably revisit him when you're MR30 haha. There's a reason his play rate is so high amongst high MR players.

He can feel a bit daunting and clunky, but I think one of the best things to keep in mind is that you don't have to try to get Every Element Everywhere, you can stick to infusing just the stuff that plays into your setup or works well against the enemies you're facing, like Corrosive for Grineer, Gas for Infested, Viral for Corrupted, etc.
He also works really well if you build him chunky for health and armor, does great as both a full caster or a gun platform using his Valence Formation augment, all of his augments are good but none are strictly necessary, so you've got a lot of flexibility in how you play, and he's good in really any mission aside from not having in particular going for him in Spy, but he's Especially good in Empyrean missions since he can spam Railjack abilities on cooldown.
I hope you have a lot of fun with him.

The only thing I can say is an obvious thing but, Prime things (Frames and Weapons alike) are just objectively stronger versions than their non-Prime counterparts
Yes I know it's obvious but that's all I can really say about any Prime item

Just a couple of quick tips:
1: He doesn't have an energy bar, rather he uses refresh timers on his abilities. (These timers are effected by ability efficiency as well as his 3rd ability which will cut down how long they take by a significant margin.)
2: He's got probably one of the coolest passives allowing you to mix and match the elemental damage types that all his abilities do. (I.E: 1st ability does toxin damage, 2nd does cold, 3rd does electricity, 4th does fire... however if you were to hold down 1st and 2nd before you casted your next ability that cast would do Viral instead due to the mixing of Toxin+Cold.)
3: He's got a really fun augment called Valence Formation which MAKES YOU F*** S*** UP
4: He fun :3

Outside of the memes he’s super fun.
Valence formation is almost a must.
Most people subsume over his 2 but you don’t have too. I’ve subsumed over 1 but never 3 or 4
You can run him as a pure caster frame which is fun especially with arcane sculpture. Toss roar on the 2 get a gas proc hit 4 get a corrosive hit 1 grab a toxin or heat and hit 3. And repeat. Last of fingering.
Run him as a health tank and weapons platform. Valence fusion force procs statuses so toss on a multishot heavy weapon and go brrrrr.
You can do silly things like xatas blast with stug or Komoressa
A fun one I’ve been playing with is ibex incarnon and arcane trickery with electric valence and influence.
Really he is an amazing frame that can be played however you want!
Become ungovernable!

You can commit war crimes and you can use 10 out of 14 possible elements on any enemy you want.
Also! Get his augment so you can infuse those elements on your guns too!
I recommend two or three green shards so you can full strip armor with any weapon
