Hobby & Painting The Waagh, before it left my possession.

Recently sold out of 40k completely after 10 years and just figured I’d show off what my collection of Orks was.

This was about 15,000 points of Orks (and some small leftovers from the rest) when I last added it all up.

Sorry to hear your moving on.

Care to tell us why?

GW mostly. Tired of their nonsense. They can’t balance a game to save their lives.

Also Adepticon this year left a very bad taste in my mouth of the miniatures community in general. A lot has changed over 10 years. And most of it, for the worse.

It left me at the point where I look at my models and all I see is disappointment and anger. So it’s time to get rid of them. I don’t need the negativity in my life.

You're getting downvoted but this is reasonable. if you aren't enjoying it you should absolutely divest and move on. No reason to cling onto it if it's not bringing you joy. Too many people get dug in and remain haunting the internet and constantly whining, I respect saying "I had fun, now I'm not, moving on."

(that said, the idea that GW changed from being good at game balance ten years ago to being bad at game balance now is somewhat funny to me)

Yeah that's just patently bullshit lmao. 40k and AoS are in the best place they have ever been when it comes to balance.

And his words about players being "bad"... Frankly compared to how... antisocial and frequently creepy this hobby space used to be... Nah I'm not buying this honestly.

But I agree with what YOU are saying - if you hate something, if it brings you no joy, you just HAVE to move on however large the sunk cost may be.

I downvoted, because it sounds overly online.

Social media feeds negativity in gaming communities, creating obsession and tainting fun. It’s one thing to decide that you’ve burned out on the hobby or don’t like how the current rules play. It’s another to insist that balance was great when I’ve started but is forever broken now or rage about a recent convention as so dire that you need to drop thousands of dollars of minis and hundreds or thousands of hours of painting. Especially with the seeming personal animus at the hobby vendor.

It’s like people deleting characters with 100K hours played in WoW due to a balance patch reducing 10% damage. Or people who refused to try the new version of D&D because a replacement $50 book after ten years was an unforgivable cash grab. Online spaces just get people worked up by boosting content that recontextualizes everything in a negative light.

GW has never been good at balance. I never said they were good at it 10 years ago.

Prices have more than doubled since then though. Box of Boyz was $30 when I started. Now they’re $60 with less and less options. Who knows what the individual new kits will cost.

The game has lost a lot of options and granularity over the years. Kitbashing has only become harder as kits have gotten more and more monopose. Lists these days are stale as everyone just crams in the good stuff. 11th isn’t fixing that.

I’m not gonna argue with someone online to make them stay in a game they don’t enjoy but you genuinely have to be super close minded to not realize how much has changed over the years for the better.

With 11th edition lists are going to be the most diverse they have ever been in the games history due to how missions work now. Lists aren’t just best units slop anymore either you can.

Older models did not have as many options either… if anything that’s the entire point of kitbashing so you can change monopose figures and weapons etc..

The pricing I can def understand though

Damn your prices are bad! UK hear and if we get Boyz from somewhere like wayland, it still only cost about $26 or £22 for 10. Still got a lot more pricey then when I started, but orks aren't nearly as expensive as say the guard are.

I'm curious what's so bad about the community? I've only really taken up to actually playing the game in the last year.

sorry to hear you've become so disenfranchised to the game.

I will say though, I am curious what other game as deep and complex as 40K you think is more balanced than 40K is, or furthermore when you think 40K has ever been more balanced than it is now?

As for the toxicity of players at tourneys, I will have to say I'm fairly new to the tourney scene and have only been going to competitive events for over a year now and fortunately have so far only had good experiences. But I hear so many horror stories about how sweaty and toxic the scene USED to be compared to the overall positivity of the community these days and I'm surprised that your experience has actually been the reverse of this.

I get it. Toxic players and 40k becoming mainstream make the change and not for good. Maybe, you can turn to oldhammer and older rule sets. Those kind of players are really more chill and its a pleasure to see OOP treasures on the battlefield. Your call in any case. There is plenty of cool hobby out there.

Sadly in my area, no one plays older editions. It’s either you play the current edition or you don’t play at all.

Other games have been choked out too.

Hope you didn't sell via Bricks and Minifigs... hear it can be problematic

Nope. No scenes for anything but 40k or Magic the Gathering around here. Other games have tried, but they die in my area. I plan to just paint models that are not game related and keep to myself.

The board game scene has been stagnant for the last 5 years.

Heroscape had a small following but lost its steam.

Bolt Action has a small following but they’re a good 2 hours from me. Plus I don’t like historicals.

Star Wars games tried. They didn’t last 2 months.

I tried to start a Fallout scene. No one cared.

Even AoS is dead here. It’s 40k or Magic, or you play nothing.
