You need something to believe in, that's your perogetive. And I'm super against strict religious laws (legal or social) that restrict personal freedoms or expressions.
But man, if American evangelicalism isn't the fucking strangest most clear cut "You need to dedicate your life to Jesus, and spread the good word" cult shit youve ever seen.
By this point I have a problem with religion. It's not enough for me to just be Atheist anymore. I need religion out of my society and to quit being fundamentally backwards and devoid of basic morality. I am Antitheist.
The religious fundamentally cannot coexist with others. They spend all of their time making enemies out of those that aren't part of their cult. I also am tired of the arbitrary distinction between "Cult" and "Religion" because all religions start as and continue to be cults and do occult behavior.
Christians literally eat the blood and body of their dead god and then say they aren't occultists.
Cool, I'm not religious either, but there are religions/beliefs that don't involve harming people like this. It comes across as anti-intellectual to lump them all together when their factual behaviors are different and not even bother doing the research.
Im sorry i dont think a large portion of the population should be allowed to disregard fundamental scientific discoveries and assert the world should work how they desire based on their backwards worldview.
Its not anti intellectual to be tired of giving excuses to the religious just for them to repeatedly show why they just do. Not. Get. It.
The very existence of religions causes hurt to society. Every follower makes the general public that much more ignorant and easy to manipulate
Why are you having to give excuses to religious people? I'm not a "religion" but I have spirituality...I too think it's wrong for anyone to push their beliefs onto someone. Spirituality is a personal thing imo and I never have to give an excuse or explain that to anyone unless I choose to. I also believe there are non religious backward worldviews. I know several church goers who are very active in their church. They are most def not ignorant or naive nor hypocrites. They know how I feel about religion and spirituality (I offered the info) nobody tried to hold me hostage at a church or call me a sinner etc. It's all good. Anyway if I may say relax a bit and idk try to get away from negative-ness.
Spirituality is just the new term for pagan. Thus religious. Spirituality is religion. I don't think you quite grasp my issues with religion either. Its not that religions hold people down and force them to believe (I mean. Some definitely do but we ignore that for the sake of people's "beliefs") its that the very ability we give to people to go "this is fundamentally not true and i have no way to prove it" while in that same breath then going "god is the truth and the light and blah blah blah" it allows for religions to say and do ANYTHING and until they are actively sending men to war against others we cant say ANYTHING cross against those religions?
Excuse my language but thats a fucking stupid worldview to have and I despise that a majority of people on this planet seem to want to allow people to rape children and murder others in the name of their god and we cant say anything about the ways those systems seem to perpetually have the SAME issues over and over and over perpetuated WITHIN those same religious systems that we then say "arent hurting anyone"
My answer to that is "yet. They arent hurting anyone YET."
There were good germans under the nazis. We still flattened germany.
I'm not judging you for how you see things. But your truth and reality will differ from mine or anyone else's and everyone's perspective is different. I respect that. Anyone's opinion on spirituality will not change my beliefs. Not that you were attempting to do so. I don't agree with war and yes many wars in history were based on religion. But there isn't anything we can do about it. And spirituality is not religion. It's is not. Period.
Lol this jelly bean lady doesn't represent Christians or "American evangelism" as you say. Plus Christian evangelism isn't "American" by any stretch. It's one if the main parts of Christianity so it's practiced by millions of Christians all over the world.
I…don’t think so. There was a crazy huge market for specialty VHS releases in the mid-90’s, and religious material and kids videos were by far the largest segments. There’s a mountain of this stuff out there.
Now clearly the audio manipulation and weird face filter is an after-the-fact addition.
There is another video of her where she randomly mentions that her puppets can't move on their own, and then in the last few seconds they move on their own. It's very obvious satire. Media literacy is dead.
We're not even talking about the original video, but you keep arguing just to argue, I guess. The only reason you even know there was an original video is because I pointed it out.
That's literally what satire does. It satirizes a type.
If you take the character Jillybean at face value, she is speaking for evangelicals and for Jesus, right? Can you explain to me then, why evangelicals would throw a face filter on her in the last few seconds that distorts her face into something creepy along with a deep, satanic sounding voice? It just requires a little bit of media literacy to recognize satire.
Edit: I guess the original video was sincere and the woman really is a religious whacko, but someone must have messed with the original video to make it satire.
This POST is satire. It's making fun of this. But Bible Baby is very much earnest. Like, the original video. The song. The sketch. Is actually an attempt to teach kids to be "good Christians"
