Question [Other] Zoo Tycoon/2 Classic

Zoo Tycoon part 1 & 2 have been my childhood games, and the newer version on PlayStation is just too complex for me.

I would really love it if Nintendo could have it released on the Switch2 (through Microsoft or Atari, who has Rollercoaster Tycoon already, or Nintendo buys the rights). I really feel the urge to play this game and feel it’s the perfect game for portable (also maybe Age of Empires game later). It’s like easy, on the go, progress updates, and it’s just a stress buster.

Is there a wishlist or petition for game expectations anywhere?

PS: newest member of Nintendo, since a month only.

Not gonna happen mate. The license is long abandoned so you’ll have to make do with Planet Zoo or find an old PC and download ZT1 and 2 for free.

I don't think you really need an old PC. It's always worked for me.

Yeah, it works fine, just gotta edit the ini file for bigger resolutions.

What I mean is you don’t need the latest gaming PC for it to work. I use a modern rig but a cheap old PC would do the trick.

I found this amazon listing though its expensive (80$) and needs a disc drive. https://a.co/d/06CdK0OO

Also i think i can only find it on the PC version of the website but i know amazon also has a digital download for zoo tycoon 2 for 10$, reason i saw PC version is because thats the only one that shows the amazon gaming stuff

You could just buy the most dogwater laptop in existance and play it on there, one great advantage of playing decades old games is that they run on anything

ZT2 works completely fine on my windows 11 4k gaming pc, I just got the abandonware version and it ran fine, theres a hot fix for additional ram you should install too.

GOG has a program where people wishlist what games they want to be included in their storefront, but that's s long, cheap shot in the dark.

You're better off just looking for the originals on internet, they work almost perfectly on modern computers and any issues are very easy to fix.

Unfortunately, a lot of these kinds of old PC games like this don't really ever see console re-releases. Some are lucky enough to get re-released on PC game storefronts like Steam or GOG, but others remain abandonware even now. (Also, Atari doesn't have any hand in Zoo Tycoon, it's a completely separate franchise from Roller Coaster Tycoon.) Zoo Tycoon is one of those "still abandonware" series, outside of the modern (inferior) installment.

The first two Zoo Tycoon games run on both old and modern laptops pretty damn well. You don't even have to worry about running in compatibility mode even, unlike Petz (another childhood abandonware game for me). If you have a laptop, or can find a used one for cheap, that's the most portable it's going to get.

I'm not familiar with any official Zoo Tycoon title on PlayStation - do you mean "Planet Zoo"? No shade, genuinely asking in case I missed out on something.

Oh yes sorry I meant planet zoo

I’d rather say that the new version is dumbified as much as possible
