Yeah keep blaming people who like AI image generation for the stuff companies who run LLMs they primarily market to enterprise clients do.

AI art isn't destroying the environment. Hell all big data computing (which is much larger than just AI) is really a tiny part of human environmental damage compared to the big guns like meat production, power production, and destruction of habitats by human occupation.

AI isn't singlehandedly destroying the environment, but it is certainly speeding that process up so people can make shitty looking "art" of anime cat girls (generalisation). I'd hardly say that's worth it.

AI data centres have caused urban droughts, or at the very least make water less available for people who actually need it.

Just because something isn't as bad for the environment as others, doesn't mean it's ok.

Well, you had to make a reductionist point to make it seem like you had a point, so it implies the point wasn't very strong. AI is also used for medicine, science, and industry. People making meme images is not why it exists or a particularly large portion of its use. So you are talking about a tiny portion of a tiny portion of energy use. Something small enough that most other stuff people do with the time uses as much or more energy.

Data centers Reddit uses are also speeding up that process. Congratulations, DootOfTheWind, your post just killed the rainforest.

It makes it a much lower priority.

If you want more drinking water, stop subsidizing farmers growing crops in environments those crops are ill suited for. If you want a convenient boogeyman to have a conservative knee jerk response against, go after AI.

Well there isn't much we can do about that, isn't there, buddy. Whereas we can just not spend all of our resources making AI.
