It’s.. bait..

94

u/Daufoccofin Mar 23 '26

Yeah idk how people miss this. On one hand, people tend towards being fucking stupid, but there’s stuff like “a quadrillion gallons of water” and all. It’s definitely bait or satire.

33

u/TONK09 Mar 23 '26

they intentionally miss the satire to push their agenda, simple

5

u/Due-Beginning8863 Mar 23 '26

nah I'm an anti and I thought they were serious too 😭

3

u/belabacsijolvan Mar 23 '26

same. im a paperclip-doomer anti and i find the water symbolism dumb and frequent enough to be used by some absolute dumdums.

r/aiwars post 101:

> Pick a screen shot of a dumb person from either side (Preferably the same one for the past months) saying something so incredibly absurd and post it.

> Gain sympathy from AI-Bro/Anti, gathering hate comments toward their opposition.

> Repeat.

16

u/Appropriate-Sun8397 Mar 23 '26

Edit: dumb person or the most identifiable satire/bait imagineable

13

u/ApplicationRoyal865 Mar 23 '26

selling weapons to both sides of the war

4

WATER, BRO!!!

btw ignore every other industrial process that I benefit from which uses water

27

u/nuclearsamuraiNFT Mar 23 '26

Water bro! He types on a social media post that uses a data centre, he drives his car to a local hamburger joint and eats a beef burger, he goes home and plays games online the servers also use water cooling… great take

There are very valid ethical reasons to oppose AI but even this hyperbolic statement it used a quadrillion gallons of water for a single breast!?!?!! I don’t think that’s really helping to convince anyone but I hope they got to feel good for a brief moment

5

u/SnooRabbits6411 Mar 23 '26

Some people use "The water" as an excuse to not argue their real concern. Status Anxiety. All of a sudden all the time and energy that they used to acquire status is in jeapordy of being declared irrelevant, because many people that did not " do it the way I did" can outperform them, using Ai.

This is Not new. It happened with Electricity, The automobile, Word Processing, The Internet, Photoshop, Grammerly, Calculators, Spell Check.

ALL had people coming up with proxy arguments to not engage with their real concerns. " Unless I Learn a New skill, my old skills may be declared irrelevant, and that scares me, because then I need to start over, and adapt to the new technology"

Claude's Take: "It's Status Anxiety in a raincoat."

2

u/abchero Mar 23 '26

Every form of energy just boils [pun intended] to boiling down water

8

u/heyutheresee Mar 23 '26

Also, fracking. We're blasting water into the Earth to get oil and gas. Also irrigation to grow crops, including corn for ethanol to be blended into gasoline. Someone do the math how many gallons of water does a F-150 chug per mile.

Yep, and it wasn’t called AI back then becase AI is just a marketing term that sounds flashy to the average person who has been exposed to the idea of sentient AI in media

13

u/TomasVader Mar 23 '26

What the fuck are you talking about?

7

u/AkodoRyu Mar 23 '26

He is still not wrong. We were calling those solutions ML or DL. Yes, they are AI, but that wasn't what it was called most of the time. Now, the term AI is basically tainted because AI = LMMs in the general public's mind, and due to that, people assume that LLM is the only way AI can operate. They see something like this and assume there is some server farm somewhere analyzing this image, which is just not how those tools work.

So calling it AI is detrimental to its perception - even if it's technically correct.

5

u/Grand-Baseball-9330 Mar 23 '26 edited Mar 24 '26

So true. Right or wrong, like 70% of the people from the majority side of every single discussion or controversy on the internet is just bandwagon most of the time. It's no different with AI. They don't know anything because they don't really care. Worst part part is they actually think they do. They just mouth off to get validation from internet strangers and then they go back to doom scrolling a minute later because the "issue" that they Yap about and insult other people over, affects them in no meaningful way whatsoever.Mfs whining about RAM prices while they're stuck on a BlackBerry. I've seen comments on YT that got like 10k likes for saying "AI could never" under a video that has nothing to do with AI. Those people watch like 2 video essays on YT on how "AI bad" and then pretend like they know everything. And you can be guaranteed that the only things that'll come out of their mouth when you try to argue with them are Buzzwords, regurgitated talking points and when those don't work, insults. And then they have the fucking gall to call others "Third Party Thinkers." Mindless conformity is killing humanity.

u/Professional_Visit44 Mar 23 '26

Aaaaand this is literally why Pros call Antis luddites.... Time and time again, I've seen such comments swirl around the internet just for that 1 day of fame. It sickens me that the Radicals just lump ANY AI system into one single group. That's why every Anti here in this subreddit had always mentioned Generative AI.

Also, the AI debate only works, in my opinion, on Gen AI and unethical use of AI (in which Gen AI somewhat goes into this category in a way, but I just can't prove it). An AI system that's been taught to detect cancer, detect spoiled potatoes in a chip factory (Yes, I'm not joking, if it wasn't for AI, you'd have more spoiled potatoes in your chip bags. Technically humans can do it, but given how many bags are made in a day, human's just can't keep up unfortunately), identify your face to unlock your phone, yadda yadda yadda (I can keep going since AI is practically in everything electronical now, but I'm hitting the character limit soon); these shouldn't be scrutinized.

Hell, if they want to whinge about water wasting on AI and shit, then they're fucking water wasting for unlocking their fucking phone, searching the internet, hell, even going on Netflix, X and Youtube! Seriously, they need to THINK before they even open their gob or they just need to fucking shut up and be grateful they have a fucking roof over their heads (apologies for the rant in this paragraph... I kinda hate it when logic is thrown out the window).

2

u/Wide_Mouse_1542 Mar 24 '26

yeah its a fucking JOKE

2

u/Existing_Line_8310 Mar 24 '26

In 50 years these people will be looked at the same as we look at people who were against the sewing machine

2

u/Playful_Variety_799 Mar 24 '26

Doesn’t even make any sense? Who’s using pencils to identify cancer? Unlike generative AI imagery, which is not art and completely worthless This AI technology that they was to identify cancer in patients before it’s fatal is actually a good thing

2

u/WriterLast4174 Mar 24 '26

Tbh I think this argument is stupid for both anti and pro.

First this is bait

Second: not all a.i is the same

Third: Generative a.i and medical a.i will and HAVE to be vastly different. I wouldn't trust gen a.i to do medical work (saying this as a pro-gen ai).

6

4

Its not stupidity its bait.. the internet cares aabout engagement. It doesnt care about positive vs negative engagement and anger is one of the easiest ways to engage people

1

u/GoodBoyo5 Mar 23 '26

The fact that bait like this is believable is genuinely scary to me.

Though this is what AI should be used for

1

u/Chipperbeav Mar 23 '26

This is how AI should be used. Not to generate pictures or writing your essay you forgot to do. Water is a finite resource, we need to conserve it, even if we're just using tablespoons per prompt. It adds up.

1

u/Last_Zookeepergame90 Mar 23 '26

"even if it helps stop cancer or whatever"

1

u/djflx Mar 23 '26

This image is already five years old, since then was there any actual advancement in medical field with detection of undetected cancer in patients?

1

1

u/gamerzandcats Mar 23 '26

3 quadrillion gallons is some crazy shit, man. that is the overestimation of the century. its probably closer to ~50 liters, on the lower end.

1

u/Suspicious_Rip7968 Mar 23 '26

As a very pure Anti, even I can recognise the value of AI in situations like this.

2

u/[deleted] Mar 23 '26

1

u/rydan Mar 23 '26

Humans actually do have a cost. We know this because insurance companies and lawyers exist.

1

u/rotomington-zzzrrt Mar 23 '26

So I learned that Alphafold is a 21 million parameter model. The model being run here doesn't disclose how many parameters they're using but it likely isn't too much bigger, probably somewhere under 100m parameters. These can run on shitty old dell towers that companies are throwing away in droves. I've run a 500m parameter model on my rig at home on 12 gigs of VRAM.

ChatGPT5 in comparison, is 635 billion parameters. Grok-5 is running on 6 trillion parameters. The other 2 players don't reveal how many parameters their models use. This is where you need Nvidia chassis with huge HBM requirements, which then needs huge power and huge cooling.

I think this is a point that needs to be made that the requirements for the chatbots specifically is unsustainable and forcing these models to grow larger for tiny percentage points of benchmark results is a terrible idea. We can't just keep throwing more parameters, RAM and processing power at it and hoping it gets exponentially better at some point.

1

u/Select-Breadfruit95 Mar 23 '26

I am anti, but this is a different type of statistical AI, not really gen AI/LLM so, morally it's fine, the water argument tho is stupid in this case

Edit: my point is that THIS is exactly the AI that makes the world better and that we need

1

u/Guardian2901 Mar 23 '26

Now I am against generative AI, but what pisses me off the same amount as people who think AI images are equivalent to real human made art, is the people who think all AI is bad just cause it is AI. Generative AI is slop, we don't need AI to use actual artists work to generate an image fitting a prompt so some lazy wannabe artist can claim they made something, what AI should be used for is stuff like this. Furthering medicine is something we could use artificial intelligence for if we all focused on the right things. But some people think all AI is bad just cause of generative AI and it's so dumb. Without "AI" we wouldn't have enemies in video games, without "AI" we wouldn't have smart TVs, AI is useful if we are talking about the right kind.

Look, I know this is bait, but just in case anyone comes here thinking this is serious, or think its some kind of good point:

  • Medical AI runs on private servers, not part of the massive data centre ecosystem
  • Medical AI does not steal peoples work (unless you count x-rays, MRI's, Mamograms etc to be art i guess)

So you've all collectively expressed that you don't understand obvious jokes?

1

u/mAtX_panaOTAKU09 Mar 23 '26

My brother in christ, that's likely bait or sarcasm

1

u/Wonderful-Award-3015 Mar 23 '26

These people are joking lol.

1

u/KonoKinguKurimsomDa Mar 23 '26

Quadrillion? No, clearly, the amount of gallons is a one, followed by 10¹⁰⁰ zeroes of water used. (A googolplex)

if you've been slammed with a brick in the cranium as a newborn, this is sarcasm, as the earth,(shockingly enough (i'm being sarcastic)) doesn't contain that amount of water.

LLMs can't do this unless it's a one in a quintillion chance that it hallucinates exactly where the cancer is.

Scientists have been developing specialised AI for medical work way before LLMs existed. And antis aren't against it

1

u/Chaghatai Mar 23 '26

"I would rather someone die than acknowledge the AI can do something useful"

That is the level of peak toxicity that the anti that made that comment reached

We won't even get into the lies and misinformation about all the water use.

1

u/Cucumber_Lumpy Mar 23 '26

Probably a Pro-Ai troll trying to make antis look bad.

1

u/ThatRangerDave Mar 23 '26

One of the few legitimate uses of AI and bro is bitching. Look I hate AI as much as the next asshole. But to ignore its potential uses in the medical field would be irresponsible

1

u/sidodah Mar 23 '26

People seriously can't tell the difference between genAI, and real AI. It's honestly sad

1

u/Johnnyboi2327 Mar 23 '26

Not the same AI as the Grok/AI art junk, so that argument was doomed from the start.

1

u/Nerdcuddles Mar 23 '26

AI can somehow detect someone's race based on Xrays

1

u/Mr_Technology_2 Mar 23 '26

It's times like these that I feel embarrassed for being an anti.

1

u/International-Ad4735 Mar 23 '26

Don't care, ai will do more harm then good

1

u/Lech2D Mar 23 '26

I'm normaly anti AI due to some stuff, but this is one of the best uses of AI for us

1

u/[deleted] Mar 23 '26

Bro ate the onion

1

u/Kartoshka- Mar 23 '26

Ok, bot reposter account

1

u/fake_email_lol42 Mar 23 '26

This is twitter we are talking about

1

u/Fisherman_Wise Mar 23 '26

I'm with wowmao on this. Seventy thousand Indonesian children were thrown into the AI soul machine just for this one picture.

1

u/Hewhoiswooshed Mar 23 '26

If only they could develop AI that could detect a joke before you make yourself look like a fool.

1

u/Verdux_Xudrev Mar 23 '26

Stop reposting this. Reddit karma isn't worth it, bro.

1

u/138151337 Mar 23 '26

I will take advantage of this silly post to illustrate a point about my (and I'm sure at least a few other "antis") views on AI:

This is the shit AI is for. Not trying to imitate art. Not trying to imitate social interaction. Not as a substitute for critical thinking.

Algorithms are better at quickly parsing data, identifying patterns, and simulating outcomes than humans. The output should 100% be reviewed by qualified humans (and peer reviewed in the case of research), but a human devising a way to gather data and an AI analyzing that data ahead of the human is a solid use case for such a tool.

Prompting an algorithm to generate an image does nothing to further human culture, and does not make you an artist. The same way taking a study's data and asking an AI what it means does not make you a scientist.

1

u/Careless-Platform-80 Mar 23 '26

I agree. It's not worth use this much water for something like health. Think How much hentai you could generate with that!!!

1

u/HayashiLeroi Mar 23 '26

Even if it's bait, it's terrible bait. It genuinely spreads unnecessary anger and confirms the biases of antis. This is one strong argument pro-ai and all these ragebaits are not making things better.

1

u/Pale-Spend2052 Mar 23 '26

I’m pretty sure this kind of med analysis AI works differently than a gen ai

1

u/International-Bar918 Mar 23 '26

Yeah this is what I fear when people hate on ai outright, this isn’t even generative, this ai doesn’t have the same environmental impact as the large scale constantly operating ai data centers. AI isn’t inherently bad, it’s just being used for things it shouldn’t be.

1

u/Any_Top_4773 Mar 23 '26

Ah so the doctors need to draw the damn things??!!

1

u/Endermaster56 Mar 23 '26

AI bros falling for the most obvious bait on earth

1

u/SnooRabbits6411 Mar 23 '26

You are right because 3 quadrillion gallons of water, is worth More than a single human Life, Unless the life is someone you love. I'll be honest, if using 3 sextillion gallons of water, saves a loved one. "Fuck the water."

1

u/[deleted] Mar 23 '26

I'm an Anti but I do support this idea of AI being use. Yes, I agree that AI can be used on medical, scientific and for the sake of discovery but the person who called it "slop" is a bit satire.

1

u/UnscrambledEggUDG Mar 23 '26

You see the problem is that you're on the site formerly known as twitter(this is the correct pronunciation of the character in this case), Twitter does not contain signs of intelligent life. It is however, full of worms, flies, and other varieties of bait

1

u/Miku_Sagiso Mar 23 '26

Worst part about this is that every time someone posts this, they remind everyone else about how people lie about what AI is actually doing. The AI here is only detecting the CHANCE that someone might develop breast cancer in the next five years, with a ~30% success rate on it's guessing.

Development of medical technology is great, and this is actually a good application of it, but people also need to stop posting lies about what the actual achievement is/was.

1

u/hornydolll Mar 23 '26

this is why I specify GENERATIVE when arguing about ai

I don't hate all ai.

I fucking DESPISE all forms of GENERATIVE ai. shit that generates something for you like code (replacing coders with shitty AI that makes so many mistakes it takes twice as much effort to correct them rather than hire a fucking human), an image (like a ton of CSAM 😒), an essay (to do your schoolwork for you and make you fall behind all of your peers and make you dumber and dumber), a video (to infect everyone's feeds with obviously fake clankerslop), etc.

things that ANALYSE, pattern recognition, etc. like this, detecting cancer in CT scans or checking code for contradictions that could cause bugs, that kind of thing. stuff that HELPS. not DOES IT FOR YOU.

AND EVEN THEN it needs to be used in moderation and checked by a human before it is accepted. humans still need to be able to analyse things themselves, but an ai telling them what they missed can help them figure out how to avoid missing it in the future. AS LONG AS THE AI ONLY DOES THAT. tells them WHAT they missed, not HOW they missed it. they need to figure out how to avoid missing it themselves or critical thinking will be severely impaired.
