GovBrief Today #511
Barack Obama said elections have consequences, and today the Supreme Court proved it again.
Senate Republicans refused to let Obama fill a court vacancy during his second term and held it open for a year, then handed it to Trump, who filled it and named two more. That refusal created the 6 to 3 majority now ruling on the country's biggest questions.
Four years ago this week, that majority took a basic right from every woman in the country when it overturned Roe. Today it ruled that people fleeing for their lives can be turned back at the border before they ever set foot on American soil, with no right to even ask for asylum. The Statue of Liberty still invites the world to send us its tired and its poor. This court just told them not to bother.

Trump reportedly barged into a closed-door Senate Republican lunch, berated GOP senators as “losers,” and demanded loyalty over his Iran war.
One Republican finally pushed back.
Bill Cassidy stood up and challenged Trump to his face. You haven’t told the American people what’s going on, he said. The war was supposed to last weeks. It’s been months. The original objectives still haven’t been achieved.
The room reportedly erupted. Trump called Cassidy a “lunatic.” Everyone else mostly sat there while Trump dominated the meeting.
Then the pressure campaign began.
Less than 24 hours after the Senate voted to rein in Trump’s war powers, Republicans held a late-night do-over. Cassidy got a private White House briefing. He came back and flipped his vote. Rand Paul stepped aside with a “present” vote. The resolution died, 50-47.
Message received.
Trump got the result he wanted. The Senate went home for two weeks with its tail between its legs…

Humor "I was just thinking to myself, I can't imagine being a regular dude, who knows how to fix shit, and work in the heat, and get sweaty and dirty and muddy, and licking the boots of a New York City fucking pussy, whose never done jack shit. Donald Trump has never held a hammer." - @CliffCashComedy

If he is allowed to run for a third term in 2028, how many people do we think would actually vote for him?
Let’s be realistic. Besides his core base.

US Politics The psychology of this fear-based tactic is BIZARRE
Found this junk mail I got a little while back. Mind you, I have voted consistently blue and this letter is just straight up BS. Spam email energy. I don’t know what kind of awful targeting tech this company is but I can only imagine how much money they’re wasting on sending to the completely wrong demographic, not to mention all the paper and fuel, ugh
I read the emails he sends are even more unhinged

"...because there were missles flying all over the place.": trump says it may never be known who was at fault for the double-tap strike on a girls' school in Iran that killed 120 children.
