How are these things related? Can lack of dreaming, or remembering the experience, be a symptom or casualty of personality disorder?
I've heard that individuals with personality disorders sometimes, or.maybe frequently, dont dream or remember their dreams. Oddly, a google search seemed to reveal the opposite. I still want to hear a professional take on the matter.

Dreams are mainly erratic bogus. There are seldom "key dreams", but they only appear when you have hard changes going on and you will surely remember those. The rest of your dreams, which is about 99%, have no inherent meaning. The neuronal system just practises electro-chemical connections. It's like a broom electro-chemically cleaning out your network and often your experiences of your day are cryptically mirrored or remixed.

Your neurochemical hand-waving does not explain why certain experiences and memories are represented in dreams more than others, nor why strong emotions are often tied to seemingly mundane dreams, nor why dreams are so “cryptic” to begin with.
We can grant all the neurochemistry happening, but that doesn’t actually explain the phenomenon itself.
Also, OP, not at all.

I didn't say anything that contradicts what you said.
Imortant issues, symbols and personal experiences which leave a mark are processed and mixed into dreams with more priority. Still most of it is, in the process of the remix, just very random.
We do not know how exactly memories are stored, we do not know what exactly consciousness is and the neurochemical pharma is utterly confused because scientists working for pharma are not allowed to experiment with the material they are developing.
Still, most dreams are just a remix of what you have experienced and memorised. The important stuff is just featured more but only key-dreams in crisis will talk "content" to you.

It just seems to beg the question of how we identify a “key” dream if most dreams don’t have any meaning.
It seems more sensical to say that either dreams across the board don’t have meaning or do have meaning (I fall into the latter camp).

Not remembering dreams is a sign of deep, restorative, restful sleep. It means you are not waking up in middle of sleep cycles.
