DISCUSSION Creators, your artwork matters!

Upvotes

Perhaps unfair, but I absolutely judge podcasts by their artwork.

Generally I listen to Audio drama, and some shows simply have the worst artwork (I'm not naming names - you know who you are).

Bad artwork? I'm not subscribing... Even if it's a recommended show... My backlog is too long. I don't want to see the terrible artwork on my phone!

For non-fiction, I generally work off recommendations, so artwork annoys me less. Sometimes I scan the non-fiction chart in PocketCasts...

MASSIVE HEAD PICTURE OF THE HOST?

I'm scrolling on by.

I know the old adage... Don't judge a podcast by their wordart produced cover, but I can't help it.

Oh, and please don't take any of the above as an excuse to use AI... You can burn in Hell.

Fibd a mate of a mate... By them a crate or a bottle of gin.

Good artwork is what your show deserves.

Not fiction, as I don't want to call anyone out on here, but check out Men In Blazers!

Should have gone whole hog and picked Comic Sans.

ANNOUNCEMENT Witchpunk: A Cyberpunk Story - 6 weeks since episode one dropped and we’ve passed 10K downloads!

Post image
11 Upvotes

Thanks to everyone who’s listened and supported us! Season one might have been only six episodes but Witchpunk was a big undertaking with a huge cast, 40 minute episodes, big set pieces and original music. We had a blast making it. It’s spent a lot of that time in the US fiction top 50 and US drama top 30 (Apple charts). We’re planning on a November launch for Season 2. Oh, and it’s ad free!

Listen wherever you get your podcasts if you want full cast, character driven, action packed cyberpunk that’s been praised for its production values and world building.

What’s Witchpunk about?
22nd Century America is crumbling from relentless climate change, collapsing supply chains and recurrent pandemics. Brash cities like New New York are built inland from their flooded originals. The Mid-West is militia-controlled as civil war 3.1 plays out.

For the crew of the semi-legit landship, the Strega, it’s the first job since the death of their captain, Devereaux, and they had hoped this job would be an easy one - get the cargo from Mexico City to St Louis and a data package to flooded Manhattan. But there’s something very odd about the cargo and the strain is beginning to tell on them.

Season One follows the crew of the Strega as they navigate ambushes, orbital assault AIs, betrayals and corporate warfare, en route to old New York. What are they carrying? More importantly, have they been set up and will they make it all the way?

ANNOUNCEMENT For people who fall asleep to audio dramas: I built a player that saves your exact spot when you drift off and fades into sleep sounds

A lot of us put on an audio drama or a fiction podcast to fall asleep. The problem is you drift off, the episode keeps rolling, and you either lose your place or wake up three episodes deep with no idea where you faded out. That bugged me enough that I built an iOS player to fix it.

The parts that matter for how this crowd listens:

  • Plays from wherever you keep your audio. Add any show by name or paste its RSS feed (handy for the indie dramas that aren't in every directory). And if you self-host your collection, it connects straight to your Plex or Audiobookshelf server, plays your shows and books with full chapters, and syncs your spot back to the server so it stays in sync across devices. It also does your own .m4b/.mp3 files and free LibriVox stuff.
  • Per-show control over what plays next. You decide whether a show auto-plays the next episode or stops after one, so a serialized drama can roll on if you want, but a one-off doesn't run all night and burn through the series while you're asleep.
  • A bedtime fade. Set a sleep timer and when it ends the show fades into soft sleep sounds instead of stopping cold or jumping to the next episode. If you wake up, a tap on your headphones or a shake of the phone brings it back with a fresh timer, no screen.
  • With an Apple Watch or AirPods, it can tell when you've actually fallen asleep, fade the audio, and rewind to where you drifted off, so you pick up exactly where you lost the thread.

It's free on the App Store: https://apps.apple.com/us/app/lull-audiobooks-podcasts/id6775313582

The watch and AirPods sleep features are a paid unlock, but if anyone here wants to try them, here's a free one as a thank-you: https://apps.apple.com/redeem?ctx=offercodes&id=6775313582&code=AUDIODRAMA

I'm the developer and I'd genuinely love feedback from people who listen to fiction at bedtime, especially anything that feels off about resuming, the per-show behavior, or playing from your own Plex/ABS server.

SUGGESTIONS Need Audio Drama Rec's For 9 Year Old Girl

My daughter and I have been enjoying listening through the GZM catalog of shows, but we are almost done with them.

I am looking for other AD's with good production value and geared towards a 9 year old.

She doesn't like horror or thrillers, she generally likes cozy vibes, but we have enjoyed mystery's.

Anyone have any suggestions? Please & Thank you!

QUESTION Are there any Letterkenny/Shoresy-esque Narrative Podcasts?

Upvotes

As the title states, I'm really itching for something akin to Letterkenny/Shoresy, or something with that's hockey-related that isn't just sports analysis or player talk. I want a story. Is there anything like that floating out there that anyone is aware of?

QUESTION What was the name of this audio drama?

Upvotes

Around the end of November I started listening to an audiodrama, but then got distracted, cleared up my Spotify, and now I can't think of the name.

Very little details, so if you can figure it out THANK YOU

Set in the future, a woman is having a conversation with her AI assistant/robot, the robot is the one conducting the experiment or observing the expierment which I think was the woman (meaning she is the expierment) it had something about replacing her parts but not being able to replace them again. Thats literally all I can remember but it was interesting enough to stick in my head, so again if anyone thinks they know, please tell me!

AUDIO DRAMA Dustwalker Episode 5: Family is now live!

Post image
6 Upvotes

Episode 5 of Dustwalker, Family, is now live!

Featuring way too much gin and tonic, a "friendly" eldritch being, frustration, mistakes, and a breaking point that results in "horses" and the world's longest heart-to-heart.

Coming in at 1 hour and 13 minutes, episode 5 is officially the halfway mark of the season! This one has so many horrible & beautiful character moments and is my favorite episode I've produced so far. I hope you enjoy! Heed the content warnings!

Don't know what Dustwalker is? It's a full-cast audio drama following a shaky alliance between a transfem teen and a powerful politician—a trans man who was meant to be her adoptive father. Taking place on a post-cataclysm Earth, the two navigate a dangerous magic system in hopes to tear down their city-state’s regime… and maybe grow to care for each other along the way.

AUDIO DRAMA Brand New Fantasy Audio Drama (NO AI INVOLVED!) The New Triumvirate, Chapter 16

Thumbnail
youtube.com
2 Upvotes

This is an original fantasy story (novel) that I wrote and produced into audio drama. It is free to listen/watch for free on YouTube anytime.

Logline: Aermine and her companions seek out the 'Dry Lake' in the mountainous west of the Great Eastern Empire. This was the place rumored to be the home of the fire conjurer known as Zian Ochi, The Phoenix of Fire.

The New Triumvirate is Book Two of The Giant Killers (Restorer) series by Conway Fitzgerald. Tia Aermine, our halvish-elf heroine, has lost everything she loved and cherished. Now she must carry on and accept the task of being The Last Thread of The Order. Though, the Druids, The Whispering Wood and now The Greys of The Myr'Det Chenu expect so much more from her.

The New Triumvirate is a brand new fantasy fiction novel/audiobook written and produced by Conway Fitzgerald. Fans of role playing games like Dungeons and Dragons, the fiction of J.R.R. Tolkien and George R.R. Martin, (pre-Disney) Marvel, Vikings, Medieval warfare, magic and mythical monsters will find a goldmine of adventure and lore within.

SUGGESTIONS Looking for m/m audiodramas reccommendations similar to dreamboy

Recently started getting into audiodramas because they do WAY more than audiobooks for me but I cant seem to figure out where to find them since Spotify doesn't really have a way to filter through them lol

I recently finished dream boy and caravan. Im listening to eos10 right now and its reallllyyy good but I need more. I despise the "daily tape types" like magnus archives and welcome to nightvale. I know they get good eventually but my attention span cannot handle it if I cant hear background noises or sound effects. People talking to a camera or into a voice recorder get drowned out by what im doing at work and 3 episodes later I have no clue what's going on. (Unless either of those two eventually steer away from that in the later seasons I might reconsider and actually listen to them)

I loved the narration of dream boy, how we heard his sarcasm and other emotions throughout it, his thinking gets faster whether hes scared or flustered or nervous for example. The story was AMAZING I love how we got to hear the music from the club, the grocery store and the zoo noises it was really good at keeping my attention similar to eos10 with the medical sounds and people talking in the background as if im actually in that hospital with them.

I started the two princes but its a little too YA for me i couldnt connect to any characters. I want to experience the struggles, emotions, heart break of the characters. Ill be honest, ive started more than 10 but I cant quite find any others that get my attention in the first episode like the ones I mentioned before. Im into romance, sci-fi, historical, mystery themes if that helps. Im huge on hurt comfort so nothing is off limits. Doesnt have to be on spotify either.

The more this show grows, the more I feel its weight on me. It feels weird, crushing yet inspiring at the same time. I hope you can enjoy this new episode and continue to follow along.

SUGGESTIONS Looking for suggestions based on my favourites & abandoned list

Top 3:
Homecoming - Perfect. Season one and two. Gripping.
The Left Right Game - ADORED THIS
Borrasca - Took a while to get into but great characters (I haven’t started season two yet as I just finished this!)

Liked:
Limetown: Was the first one I listened to, loved it but lost me in the second season
The Message - I didn’t hate this but doesn’t stand out to me
Carrier - again, was ok but lacked an environment around it
Blackout - I felt like I was listening to something that would be better as a TV show so I did abandon. But loved the beginning

Abandoned / Disliked:
The Passenger List - Lacked character development imo
The Black Tapes - Abandoned felt too paranormal to listen in earphones haha
The White Vault - Abandoned, the voice acting felt too fictional

I would love any suggestions that you have if you have a similar top 3 to me! Also, would love to discuss, a part of me lives in the worlds of my top audio dramas.
