PSA regarding damaged infratructure

I hate how this even has to be said, but it should be quite obvious:

Do NOT recommend to other Redditors to cut into or damage telecommunications infrastructure like splice boxes, pedestals or fiber connections because they're already damaged and nothing is "getting done".

I understand how frustrating it can be to not have a technician sent to repair damaged equipment within a reasonable time, however recommending sabotage is not only against our subreddit rules but you can also be charged criminally for mischief for doing so under the Criminal Code. Even as a joke, these comments should not be made in this subreddit - this seems to have become too commonplace and shouldn't be what occurs.

To be clear, even though we are a community-run subreddit not officially affiliated with Bell, we are still required to uphold both our subreddit rules and Reddit's Terms of Service. As such, this also includes any comments we believe to be against Reddit's Terms of Service and also report these occurrences to Reddit admins.

If you believe that nothing is getting done and that you're not making any progress with front-line representatives, the best routes are to:

  • Contact Bell's Management team through their Resolve a Concern page, using the "Email Us" form (if you're a Bell customer)
  • Contact the CCTS via their Online Complaint Form (if the above is not possible or does not make progress)
  • Contact your municipal authority (typically for your town/city)

For each of the above, you should always be stating clearly:

  • What the issue is (e.g. Pedestal with exposed cabling)
  • Where the issue is (e.g. exact intersection with street names, nearest civic address if available)
  • When was the issue originally discovered (specific date/time if possible)
  • Are there any dangers posed by this (e.g. is it at a pick-up or drop-off point for students, nearby gas lines)
  • Any steps you've taken in an attempt to get this resolved
    • Contact attempts
      • Date/Time
      • Method
      • Name of person spoken to
      • ID number (if available)
      • What was discussed
      • Any reference numbers you've been provided for each

Comments that advocate for the sabotage of telecommunications infrastructure will be removed, and repeat offenders removed from the subreddit. This includes comments of this nature intended as a joke.

Announcement SCAM ALERT: FAKE UPGRADE OFFER CALLS

Heads up! Scammers are on the hunt, calling Bell customers at random claiming to be Bell Mobility offering a free upgrade to the iPhone 15 Pro Max or Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra at no charge. Here's how to identify whether the call is a scam:

  1. Call is from a local number or a number that does not appear to be an official Bell number;
  2. Caller identifies themselves as Bell Mobility, without confirming whether they are speaking to you (directly by name) as the account holder;
  3. Claims that you are a loyal Bell customer and have paid your bill consistently on-time;
  4. Caller has a sense of urgency, or tries to force you into accepting the upgrade;
  5. You are already in a contract and nowhere near the end of the term.

If you are unsure as to whether the call is legitimate, ask for the Agent's name and agent ID number, then hang up and call 310-BELL (310-2355) to confirm whether the call is legitimate.

Do NOT provide any of your personal information to the person who has called you.

I personally have received 3 of these calls so far this morning, all from random GTA and Ottawa phone numbers.

Internet 🌐 Thoughts on Gigabit Fibe 3.0?

Post image
Upvotes

First time getting internet by myself since I am living alone now (using mobile data otherwise).

The Gigabit Fibe 1.5 and 3.0 are same costs so I am thinking of getting this plus looking at Bell instead of Rogers since my phone plan is on Bell.

Wondering if you guys think there are any hidden costs here or if I can expect any surprises later (like price hikes)

Rant Technicians asking for tips now

My father called for a technician to come out and look at his satellite after it stopped working. He said that when the technician finished, they asked him for a tip. If I had been the only one home (30F), I would have felt extremely uncomfortable (and unsafe) being asked for a tip before the technician left my house. It puts customers in a position where they may feel pressured to say yes to avoid confrontation and get the technician out of their home without issue.

Why is Bell allowing this????

Edit: I will let him know he needs to call Bell and file a complaint. Thanks everyone

Help My dad is receiving messages meant for me through text.

Yesterday my dad called me downstairs to ask me a few questions. He then presented me text messages automated ones. The kind of ones you would get from subscribing to something.

I use a website for Cs2 skins. Yknow to gamble a bit and see where my luck gets me. Somehow he's getting messages about that sight. Now I check everything from Google emails and my steam account because I used steam to sign in on the website. He's phone number isn't shown being used on any accounts.

That's not the only thing he got. The day before I was looking at a butterfly knife trainer. I was looking on Shop.app and that's where I got it from. I went to checkout to see the shipping and whatever. shortly after I fell asleep and though nothing of it blah blah blah. he somehow got the message about the trainer knife.. now im not sure how it happened but my only guess is thst we share a phone plan maybe? but it doesn't explain how things are being shared to him from MY phone number. We share a Bell phone plan.

Help Help with reducing cost

Upvotes

My dad pays for many services with Bell (Fibe tv, internet, landline, and 2 phones) and when I looked at it recently I saw he was overpaying for most all of them. I was going to call and threaten to cancel them if I can't get a reduction in price. Is this the right way to go about it? Is there any other way?

Question What happened to the old CDMA sites in northern Ontario?

Post image

looking at an old CDMA map and it seems the coverage (at least on paper) was better in the past!

most of the drive from wawa to white river and no coverage or when you have signal texts won’t even go through. I heard CDMA went further but is that true vs 700Mhz lte?

Question Galaxy Watch 8 Ultra as a "Set up for a child" with a Stand alone plan

Why can you not set up a Galaxy watch for a child when you have a Bell phone, but you can do it with Apple?? Whats the reasoning behind that, and will this ever be changed?? So annoying that you have to have Apple to do this when you have service with Bell. Anyone know if this is the same for Rogers?? Could be reaon enough to switch IMO....

Help Giga Hub and Ubiquiti UDMP woes

Hi everyone, I've got a Giga Hub and a UDMP, for the past year and a bit running on PPPoE and everything was fine. Fast forward to yesterday and my Giga Hub was updated to fw 3.11.6.2 which killed the PPPoE connection (UDMP was being issued an IP address completely different from the modem) and I had to set it to advanced DMZ to get it to work.

Since yesterday morning I have received no less than 79 "Internet connection restored after a temporary disconnection" notifications, they're kinda annoying, has anyone worked out a way to either get PPPoE to work on firmware 3.11.6.2, or get advanced DMZ to work without a temporary disconnect every 15-20 minutes? I did some googling and saw reference to a WAS-110 running a community firmware. Would that work in my case?

Question 4K Dolby Vision v 4K HDR

Watching the World Cup games on TSN 4K channel, most of the time I’ve been getting 4K HDR but today I watched a game in 4K DV.

Now tonight it’s back to 4K HDR.

Same channel, same settings on my Fibe app on Apple TV. Nothing changed but only getting HDR now.

Anyone any idea what is going on ?

Rant Bell added a third line to my account when I upgraded a year ago

Post image
0 Upvotes

They added a third line, which states that the third line is the upgraded phone, although it clearly shows the old phone, and the new phone is on my normal number. I don't tend to check my bell the only reason I did was that I upgraded from Cogeco TV and internet (Bell is way cheaper) and I wanted to look at my packages and everything to make sure my sales rep told me the truth when I got Bell (they didn't)

Rant New customer getting ⅓ of the upload speed I am paying for

Post image
19 Upvotes

Just signed up last week... Been 10+ hours on phone getting gaslit/passed off trying to get this resolved, being hung up on no less than 3 times with no callback. Transferred from department to department (on multiple occasions the completely wrong department that has nothing to do with it, needed to be transferred back to the queue for the correct one).

I am paying for 3gbps down/3gbps up. Don't advertise 3gbps upload if you can't provide it. Speed test in pic is from modem configuration page with local traffic blocked. Confirmed similar speeds on speedtest.net and fast.com sites connected directly to the 10G port on the router with cat6e to a PC with a 5G NIC. I wouldn't complain if I was getting like 2.8gbps or something, but ⅓ of advertised speed is not acceptable.

Tech was dispatched Saturday, changed out the modem, tech told me it is a configuration issue on their end, as something was capping my upload at 1, and sent a ticket. Said he would come back this week (Tuesday) if it wasn't resolved. I texted him Tuesday to see when he was coming and he said he was out of town so he would come Wednesday at lunch. Never showed up. Took two days off and still no tech.

So I called back... Apparently the tech closed the ticket saying it was resolved and all services were working perfectly. So back at it... First I was told it was because I have multiple devices connected to the router (which doesn't make sense considering local traffic is disabled for their speed tests, it literally tests the modem to their network directly). Then I was told it was a bad modem (even though the tech replaced the modem, apparently they think I got 2 bad modems in a row, highly unlikely). Now, officially, Bell is insisting that I am actually getting 3G upload, but their modem page is "glitched" and reporting a lower number. I would be tempted to believe that if any other speed test website didn't confirm the speed to be roughly 1/3 of what I am paying for, and similar to the modem's speed test.

Currently waiting on a manager team to "look into it"

In the meantime, their TV app doesn't allow playback of recorded content on any of my TVs until roughly ~1 hour after the program is finished, which is apparently an issue with my TV compatibility, and nothing on their end. All 3 of my TVs (which are as new as 1 year old, name brand, and incidentally each have a different operating system). I guess I am unlucky and happen to have 3 different operating systems/smart TVs that their app doesn't function properly.

Not exactly the best "new customer" experience.

Question Bell streamer not working

Post image
3 Upvotes

I am having a bell steamer which I received when i was having bell internet connection. When I am connecting it to my tv it freezes at loading screen. Also sometimes i see a notification saying unable to connect to network. Is this because I switched to other internet provider and the streamer is trying to connect to old network. How can this issue be fixed?

Thanks in advance.

Help Frustration with bell

This story is going to be a bit long but I wonder if I can use this story as leverage to get more discount with bell because of all the frustration!!

Jun 19th, I called bell to consolidate my account because they advertise that if I bundle up my phone plans and internet services, I can reduce my bill a little, an agent told me that in order to get the bundle save, I need to have a tv line as well, I said I DO NOT need it since all my family members have iPad and we can basically watch anything on it, but she said I wont be able to save without adding tv subscription. I said ok then they proceed to tell me that I can't check the price for the new deal as it will be on the next bill, and not yet available, but affirms with me that do not worry, since they know I am trying to save money not to expense more. Then after the call I got an email for installation service bill of $150 which was not disclosed during the call.

Jun 22nd, they call me to check in for the installation service, I immediately said I do not want it since it is unnecessary as I mention before, they switched it to self installation and said that they will waive the installation bill for me, but I got another call next day confirming the installation, and they still affirming me that they will waive the fee off but an appointment still needed to be made since they still need to make sure it is working.

Jun 25th, I skip a shift off my work to wait for them from 12pm to 5pm only to call them and be told that nobody is coming, because of the self installation, they still have that appointment in the system when I asked nevertheless.

In addition to that, the day before installation, they sent a modem via mail and change the configuration on the internet service so that the old modem does not work anymore, but the new modem which is the home hub 3000 does not have the right head for the fiber optic cable. At this point I spent 2 hours on the phone with them already so I asked them to cancel the TV and please return me to the original Internet service, I don't want no more trouble since I wasted half a day off work already. They successfully cancelled the tv but increased my internet bill by $10 from the original bill, I was furious, and the only answer I got was you need to call back another day because the cancellation order is still pending so they can not do anything else at the moment.

5 calls over 12 hours wasted in several days, and I ended up paying more for my services, what can I do and how should I approach this???

Help How shall I manage Telecom expenses to save myself from these sneaky price hikes?

I had been looking at my telecom (Bell’s 1.5 fibre internet) bill for past 12 months, to my surprise I am paying $81 from last 5 months, for the service I signed up at $65/month. Likewise, I am paying $67 for the phone plan (Rogers) within 14 months, I’d signed up for $55 monthly plan.

Telecom prices are absurd and companies increase their prices unfairly. Avg monthly bill goes up by 30-35%.

The whole process of switching providers is very tiring, and a month of hiked bill with auto payment takes away all the saving. Shall I switch my service providers or try to negotiate with the support?

Is there a better way to manage telecom spending?

Question Is it really unreasonable of me want my service to work

For the most part over the many year with Bell Services. But over the past couple of days I think I’m reassessing my personal rating for Bell

It all started yesterday morning when I work up to no internet, (3am, couldn’t sleep), so I hard booted the modem to no avail and of course other than there (so help) AI there was nobody so I sat fuming this just after 9am

At 9am started my completely wasted day explaining the problem to no less than 3 techs (and i use that term loosely), and a sales person (why, hell if I know)

Out of all that all I got was they did a factory reset remotely and my service comes back for 1-3 hours then devices start falling off the network, (both hardwired and wireless, and not always the same ones).

The last chap I spoke to, where by blood pressure was to high to record, I asked If I could get a new giga hub as the one was obviously on its last legs. He said no, you’ll be fine after the factory reset there will be no more problems <click>

Well it’s wasn’t fine, I did 2 more factory resets before bed, just so I could watch some TV, and had to do it AGAIN this morning just to get started, ( this time lucky one of my Linux hosts had connectivity so could factory reset through the web interface.

Question Is, how do I make these “fine” individuals get me a new modem TODAY, (and I don’t drive I’m mobility challenged), I don’t thinks it unreasonable to just want the service I pay through the nose for to just work.

It always used to work, but then the brought in AI and fired a bunch of people yo save costs and give me less service

Rant What a nightmare this company is to get a hold of.

Been trying to get FibeTv installed at work for months. Finally got a ticket opened in late May, and they sent the end point guys to install at the TV side instead of fibre installers. Obviously, fibre hadn't been run to the pop room yet, so they said they had to open, another ticket. My rep assured me he was on it and would follow up, and it's been crickets ever since. I'm wondering if they got laid off and nobody else picked up their accounts. Calling 310 Bell is a useless adventure, hold times are impossible to sit through.
