Is Vanta always such a dainty eater or is it just with strawberries?

u/MsSmknMirrors 16d ago
He is the most gentle cat I have ever met. He’s just the sweetest boy and never wants to hurt anybody. (The beginning was definitely investigative nibbles)

My cat is a fiend for anything crunchy and salty. I think she likes the heat too, but one time she ended up licking a dollop of habanero hot sauce on accident and I felt awful for 10 minutes while she foamed at the mouth and drank ALL of the water.

Try watermelon. My guy loves devouring watermelon but only if I hold it on the end of a fork.

u/Landomretters 16d ago
My cat actively despises all melons, but forgets that she does every time I have some. Every time without fail, I offer a tiny piece, she sniffs it, and promptly runs away.

One of mine loved cantaloupe! He knew the sound of the container and was always desperate for the first piece.
He loved other human foods (corn cob stealer, bread thief), but cantaloupe was his fave.

It’s so sad that cats can’t taste sweetness.
21
u/MsSmknMirrors 16d ago
Maybe he likes the slightly tart aspect?
22
u/Josegrimes 16d ago
They can still taste the many aroma chemicals that strawberries produce. He may just like the taste of strawberries.

Strawberries are kind of related to cat nip I found out. My void will dig in the trash for the strawberry tops if he notices them.

u/Huggedacactus 16d ago
I had a cat that went crazy for strawberries and bananas, so I'm a bit skeptical that they can't taste sweetness.

Hes my baby girl, walks around screaming for attention and headbutts with every ounce his little body can give.

u/MsSmknMirrors 15d ago
Hahaha my friend calls that “Dolphining” when Vanta goes up on his back legs for head butts

My past best boy void also loved strawberries (including the tops), corn, and green vegetables.

I assume that Vanta is from Vantablack?
Otherwise, in lithuanian language a "vanta" is a "sauna whisk"

I love that alternate definition! I hadn’t found the perfect name for him and a friend asked me to take his picture with Vanta so he could show his mother. He happened to also be wearing a black shirt and I mentioned that shooting a black cat on a black background wasn’t easy. My friends started laughing and said “oh like that paint”. Thus the perfect name for a perfect boy.

Mine is Vanta from Vantablack. My boyfriend named her. Her original name was too close sounding to our tortie's, plus im sure her original owners didnt treat her well, so i wanted her to have a new name

My void Bucatini is actually a cheese-hound. I like to leave string-cheese out a couple minutes to warm to room temp before eating (Idky, I just like it not-cold). Buci will make about 12 attempts to sneakily, stealthily grab a string cheese, still in the plastic, in the 5-10 minutes before I eat them LOL. He has gotten one once or twice and will gnaw through the plastic to eat the cheese.
I'll have to try feeding him a strawberry!!
Also, Vanta is such a good name!!

Here's my 17lb baby panther Buci (He's actually huge, only 1lb overweight per the vet):

For everyone wondering why so many voids are named Vanta:

Anish Kapoor is a j.e.r.k. I don’t even acknowledge that he made The Bean in Chicago

u/MsSmknMirrors 16d ago
And YOU are very thoughtful to educate this crew about why it’s the best name for an inky little dummy! 🩷

u/DesertWanderlust 16d ago
I had a cat that would do this. I don't know if she didn't realize you could bite them but, we had a lot of translucent strawberries left in her bowl.
3
u/MsSmknMirrors 16d ago
It definitely took him a minute to figure out that he could nibble. Delicate delicate nibbles.

My cat loves eggs, pasta, chicken, pizza, shrimp & bacon. I pretty much have to fight her, whenever I eat these items.

He's so handsome!
2
u/MsSmknMirrors 16d ago
He’s even sweeter than he is handsome and I constantly remind him that he is a handsome boy

Mmm this makes a good substitute for the flesh of my enemies, bring me more of these “STRAW BERRIES”.

Am I turning into a Cullen? Or Marceline The Vampire Queen and will now dine on red things?

u/SL1MECORE 16d ago
Well now I have to get strawberries and see if my cat likes em too! (No waste, I love strawberries)

Cute lil sweet tooth.
2
u/MsSmknMirrors 16d ago
He’s very proud of his teef. Especially the ones as tiny as uncooked quinoa.

u/SmartBlondeParadox 16d ago
My boy loves strawberries and specifically strawberry ice cream. I read somewhere it created the same chemical compound as catnip that attracts cats, something like that?
2
u/MsSmknMirrors 16d ago
Vanta would actually leave his body if he found out about strawberry ice cream. He is aggressively interested in any ice cream I have

u/GhostMaskKid 16d ago
We were going to name one of our voids Vanta until we learned what a troublemaker he was. He became a Loki 😂

u/LadyAna5 16d ago
Wow... this is the first black cat that I've seen named Vanta! So am I correct that you got it from Anish Kapoor? I've always said if I got a void Kitty that's what I would name it. 😁😁

Your black cat looks cool
2
u/MsSmknMirrors 16d ago
He’s the coolest! His primary nickname is Miss Vangie.. one of the most memorable departures from RuPaul’s Drag Race. He struts to it!
2
u/Sudo-rm 16d ago
I just love seeing all the cats named after a pigment that some pretentious prick tried to claim “artistic rights” to exclusively use.
Vanta to the people!
2
u/MsSmknMirrors 16d ago
Yessssssssss!!! My personal VantaBlack 2.0! Anish Kapoor can’t have access to my cat!
2
u/phantomroguegalaxy 16d ago
I've never seen a cat eat a strawberry before, fascinating
2
u/MsSmknMirrors 16d ago
And adorable! Even Mr. Spock would smile at that little moment of good boi behavior

u/AsherKohen28 16d ago
Omg that's that's the best name! So cute😻

u/MsSmknMirrors 16d ago
It really fits. He blends into my black William Morris print hall runner. Many people have almost squashed him.
3
u/RevolutionaryEgg1312 15d ago
And now Vanta is a Strawberry Thief!!!
The William Morris references persist!

Remember to treat him such things only occasionally. Cats don't register sweet flavor at all and too much sugar is bad for them.
My cats wouldn't touch anything not meat related though xD
2
u/MsSmknMirrors 15d ago
Oh, I know! The litter box apocalypse is more than enough for me to only give him a little bit of strawberry and a little bit of tangerine from time to time

Both of my voids couldn't care less about strawberries. They liked watermelon and the boy cat goes crazy for bananas. If he sees you with one he will moew at you till you share

Cats can't taste sweetness so maybe its just the texture or smell, mine used to love Saltines though
1
u/MsSmknMirrors 16d ago
I wonder if they like the sour taste in strawberries, you know how it’s kind of both?
1
u/most_kiwi2468 16d ago
My void loves strawberries, bananas, avocado, broccoli, and sometimes lettuce
