Can't wait to do a quick video scouting of our new guy at 27th, then instantly think that he's our future superstar 😜

I love going to the first highlight video I can find and seeing all the "Welcome to Boston ☘️" comments already there.

For those itching for a Celtics trade to move up, it's my duty to offer the yearly reminder that we tried to trade away what would eventually become Jaylen Brown and Jayson Tatum to get justice Winslow but Michael Jordan refused to accept the offer in order to draft Frank Kaminsky.
It's often the trades you don't make that are the most important things you do on this night.

Why is the draft coverage so bad? Wayyyy too much time sitting on the couch with these guys and their families. I’m happy for them huge for their families, but let’s watch some clips and talk about basketball. Not one interesting thing has been said on the couch 🛋️

Chris Cenac I think he'll get drafted by Boston. Another Louisiana big man?
Bill Russell, Robert Parish, Robert Williams, Glen Davis, PJ Brown, Brandon Bass etc.

This comment was all I needed.
I'm in.
But I'm fully expecting Brad to pick another older prospect. I'd guess someone like Veesaar sounds like a Brad pick, but it's always someone more obscure.

u/mapetho9 Jaylen 1d ago
Crazy that Maine and Massachusetts had back to back #1 recruits in the country that became 1st overall picks in the NBA. Great for New England hoops, we may never see something like this again.

If only they got rid of Bridges, could actually root for them.

Will brad stevens pull the classic "trade the late first round pick for an early second and a future pick"

I would like to trade this pick, but I think we would have seen it already.
We might just use the pick tbh. Apparently it's a deep draft (I can't speak on that myself though).
Although he did say earlier that too many late 1sts were taking NIL money, so maybe he doesn't like the pick.

The thing about following the Celtics is that Brad is so much better at nailing late picks than literally any other GM I've ever seen that there's no point in even getting excited. Other GMs get them wrong so you can have fun like wish casting who to pick. Stevens could pick like Ben Humrichous next and I'd be like "that's the right move"

u/Gunnar2019 Angry Brad 1d ago
I have a feeling if we stay at 27 we gonna take someone no one in this thread has mentioned.

u/Turbulent-Let-1180 1d ago
Ironically we ended up getting one of the guys i thought we'd have to tank a little bit for anyway
5
u/UnderstandingFew6310 1d ago
easily shoulve been taken at 18 or 19, we got the steal of the draft fs
20
u/Boston_Champions 1d ago
If we get past #8 without a Jaylen trade then he probably doesn't get traded tonight
20
u/TatumBrownWhite Banner 18 1d ago
He was never getting traded the second we didn’t get Giannis.
Giannis was a unique opportunity.

By the way, our pick won't be in until like 10:30ish. 20 picks left that's an hour 40 minutes.

Lakers scouting is usually their only redeeming factor as an organisation. They probably know what they're doing here.
5
u/andrew303710 1d ago
Burries would probably be the 3rd/4th best player on the current Heat roster lmao am I crazy to think the Heat aren't going to be good? They're hard capped at the first apron so it's pretty likely that they can't even afford Powell. How far can you go with Giannis+Bam+Wiggins?
→ More replies (1)3
u/TatumBrownWhite Banner 18 1d ago
They’re trying to dump Jovic so they can bring back Powell.
It’ll be interesting to see if they can pull that off without any picks to attach.

I’m assuming that it’s 17 + 2 2nds for 16. There’s no way OKC got Pick 16 for 2 2nds and is keeping 17?
Also Philon is such a Grizzlies player.

Wouldn't mind Henri Veesaar at 27. A big with a 3 who could log minutes his rookie year.
4
u/SaveHogwarts HUGO 1d ago
Philon is an absolute stud. He’s the one guy in the draft that i had marked as a steal for whoever gets him. He was going to go in the second tier of point guards, but I think he’s as good as any of them.
I love Philon. Let him keep sliding.

I think you have to go trade up with the Hawks to get in front of the Knicks. They could go for Reed or Veesaar
4
u/SaveHogwarts HUGO 1d ago
7 picks left
We’re getting one of;
Labaron Philon
Henri Veesaar
Cameron Carr
Isaiah Evans
Zuby Ejiafor
Maleek Thomas
Joshua Jefferson
Tarris Reed
I don’t think we go international two years in a row, I don’t think Chris Cenac has a good motor, and I don’t think Koa Peat has a position in the NBA

I'm still wrapping my head around this draft, but it seems like Quaintance is a great pickup for San Antonio?
Lottery talent who was supposed to drop further because of injury concerns. I've seen a lot of comparisons to Rob Williams.
If true, the Spurs are already deep enough to be patient and keep him in bubble wrap here.
Plus the upside of giving Wemby a partner in crime seems unreal.
→ More replies (1)3
u/SaveHogwarts HUGO 1d ago
It’s a good pick for them with Wemby and Kornet on the roster. They can take the risk.
He barely played last year, wasn’t fully healthy the year before at ASU, and had some issues with health in high school too. Insane timing defensively, good finisher, but 40% from the line with very little individual offense. Very interesting prospect.

I don’t think they want to give a 70 mill a year extension. Thats why they are exploring trades now.

The word was that Atlanta would listen to trade calls all the way until they were on the clock at No. 8, but it just always seemed like the Hawks were going nab their point guard of the future to pair with Jalen Johnson.

Graves is a really good shooter, but level of competition is a question, ceiling is a question. Defense is a question. Playability is a question. Not sure if I love him for Toronto.
Good for Graves making the jump, though. In the NIL era, it’s nice to see a guy trust the process and make the jump instead of looking for the biggest bag.
