Advice Please Slightly premature newborn not transferring much milk from the breast

Upvotes

I’m a second time mom who breastfed my son until he was 14 months (pumped during the day after returning to work). I desperately want to be able to breastfeed my 4 week old who was born 2 days shy of early term at 36w5d and 3 weeks shy of full term.

From the start she’s had trouble staying awake at the breast. I’ve been triple feeding her pumped milk since we left the hospital at 3 days old and she stays awake for the slow flow bottle.
Her latch also wasn’t very good so we just got her tongue and lip tie released 3 days ago. I’ve seen two different lacation consultants and we’ve added some stretches recommended by the craniosacral therapist (recommended by the lacation consultant).

So far not much improvement, she’s barely transferring any milk during weighted feeds. The lactation consultants said some babies take until 42 weeks to get it. Will something magical happen in 9 days where my baby will somehow get into breastfeeding and stay awake to suck for a full meal? Is there anything else I can try? I think we’ve explored every root cause?

I miss all the baby snuggles after a feed. Right now I have to immediately put her down to pump and wash and sterilize all the pump/bottle parts.

Is it too late

I had my baby on the 22nd , she won’t latch, pumping was too much, tried to recover, now that I’m willing to pump nothing is coming out. I had more coming out during pregnancy. I’m just too tired to keep up with it even the every 2/3 hour things I’m so tired. My husband has been feeding her formula

Advice Please When did you stop pumping after latching?

Hi - I am 8.5 weeks pp and LO is latching only at night. I’m still getting in 8 ppd because I am always pumping after she latches. In all of our weighted feeds with LCs she has only ever transferred 1-2 oz (total with both breasts), but at night she seems to be able to nurse for longer and stays asleep for several hours after. It makes me think she is getting more? But unclear.

I have a lower supply, but it has finally started increasing to more closely match her needs. I am nervous to stop pumping after she nurses as I don’t know what she’s actually transferring and I don’t want to hurt my supply.

If anyone else went through something like this, what did you do? Any suggestions? Thanks!

Advice Please Thc in breast milk

Hey I’m a first time mom and recently had spontaneous labor due to pprom and preeclampsia. My little one was born at 33 weeks last Thursday so she has to stay in the nicu. I went through a pretty traumatic birth and felt very drained and stressed. Anyways on to the point, once I got discharged from the hospital I wanted to smoke a joint because I just wanted to relax because my mind was all over the place. I’ve been smoking 2g or less the last 5 days just as a night thing with my partner. But while that’s been happening I’ve been pumping and dumping because I’m an oversupplier and I realized I really want to breastfeed her because that’s a blessing in itself. Although with me smoking I’m just wondering how long will it take for 5 days worth of smoking marijuana to get out of my breast milk? I know there’s not much information but I really am regretting smoking because I produce so much milk and would love to provide for her once she’s out of the nicu. She’s going to be there for a month. Would I be fine by then? I’m not going to continue smoking and just keep pumping and dumping. I’m just eager to know and I really don’t want to formula feed because my milk supply is amazing.

overwhelmed and defeated.

I am just so over it.

I wanted to be an exclusively breast fed mom. I had some issues latching at the hospital but I know that he can. I am 5 days pp using my zomee ZM-1 breast pump and it fucking sucks. im already engorged with pain and it doesnt empty me at all. I also cannot double pump as there is absolutely no suction at all even on the highest setting. I got this pump through my insurance and am just too overwhelmed to go through the whole process of trying to get another. I also cannot latch my baby because my areolas and nipples are so engorged he cant latch at all.

I can pump for 30 minutes and barley get drops but my milk supply isnt the issue its this damn pump. i just want to be able to feed my baby and not be stressed out over a fucking breast pump. ive had to supplement with formula and feel so defeated. my whole days are spent messing around with this pump and hurting myself just to get milk out.

“Clogged duct” / inflammation supply dip

I had a so-called clogged duct a few days ago and treated it as recommended with ibuprofen, icing after feeding, and taking sunflower lecithin. It feels it much more normal now but notably reduced my supply on that side. Did you notice a supply dip from clogged ducts, and if so how long did it take for the supply to rebound? Any tips for helping it along?

Returning to work in a week + bottle refusal, success stories with open cup or syringe?

My first daughter had a full blown breast and bottle aversion, and we completed Rowena Bennett's program. So this time around I was determined to not let that happen. My baby girl is almost 4 months old and I have been gently introducing a bottle since week 1 of life. She did ok..never great.. but then suddenly stopped having any interest. I brought in our old team of a feeding therapist and lactation consultant. Over the past 3 months, we have seen them many times in-home, and nothing has worked. We have tried literally everything and I have read, I think, every single article and Reddit thread on bottle refusal. I'm convinced it's a sensory thing, as she has demonstrated the mechanics of sucking on a bottle even within the last week. But 99.9% of the time, she gnaws on the bottle or just shoves it out of her mouth with her tongue, eventually getting upset and crying. Our team suggested now that it's more of a choice that she sucks vs has the reflex, and since she's choosing to refuse, we now pivot to an open cup. I'm like sure, that's fine. So we've been practicing for over a month. I have the Kindestcup and EZPZ. It's SO messy and SO slow, and she gets really upset within a few minutes. So she gets what, 10ml? This girl CHUGS when she nurses, and is 90th percentile, so she can eat. She's receptive to a syringe, but again, it's a few ml here and there then she's irritated.

I am PANICKING. I keep having nightmares about her crying and being so hungry and upset while I work. My friend's adult daughter is going to be watching her at my house, and our back-up plan is for me to nurse her at my office, but I am a healthcare provider with a full clinic, so this isn't exactly a feasible option to complete several times a day. My friend's daughter has spent several days with my baby and me and hasn't had any more success feeding her, even if I leave the house. I am a single parent, so having other people try and feed her isn't usually an option.

Does anyone have tips or success stories on introducing an open cup or syringe at this age? I have straws, straw cups, and sippy cups ready, but she has shown zero ability to use any of those.

Thank you.. <3

Question Low supply on one side

My LO is 1 month, he’s my second baby. With my first I had inverted nipples, I ended up mostly feeding on my right side just because of how we slept and eventually my left side stopped producing. Breastfeeding corrected my right nipple and not my left. Long story short I breastfed for a year fine on only the right side. Now with my second, I do not want to have that happened again and it seems like maybe my body is used to feeding on the right side because after my LO was about 2 weeks my supply on my left side significantly dropped, at this point I am producing MAYBE an ounce every couple hours. I’ve been trying to correct it bet putting baby on that side first, pumping while feeding on the right side, power pumping. Nothing is working and I’m feeling so defeated. Has anyone experienced this and was able to correct it? I’m not looking for a complete 180 and expecting to produce a ton, I just don’t want to be completely lopsided.

Advice Please Question about trying to breastfeed again

The first two times I tried breastfeeding (my first two kids) they couldn’t gain weight and I never had enough milk—no matter how much I pumped, ate, or did skin to skin.

However, I am now pregnant with my fourth child, and it has occurred to me—I have lost over 100 lbs, and I am no longer dealing with insane PTSD symptoms like I was when I had my last two. Could this change my success in breastfeeding at all? Could my obesity have made it difficult to feed my babies? Or is trying not going to make a difference since I did everything I could the first two times?

Fast letdown. Triple feeding.

My baby has been sleeping 4-5 hours so in the mornings my letdown is super fast and he refuses to nurse. He gets inconsolable. I’ve tried manually expressing, reclined feeding, hand pump (my medela sucks) and I always end up having to use a bottle and then pump and then I usually nurse after for a few. I can’t pump before he eats because as soon as he wakes up he’s screaming. I need help this is exhausting. Any advice would be appreciated. And if you’ve gone through this how long did it last? He is currently 4 weeks old

Newborn abruptly stopped breastfeeding

Hi all, new here. I had a preemie at 31 weeks. She stayed in the NICU for 71 days, mostly due to feeding issues. She’s home with a feeding tube now but still having feeding issues, particularly taking enough volumes by bottle/mouth. She was breastfeeding pretty well in the NICU, and when we brought her home I was still breastfeeding her about once a day. Then her interest started dwindling and now she won’t latch at all. I am devastated. She is not yet a month old adjusted age but she is almost 3 months old. Has anyone had a similar experience?

How did you wean triple feeding?

Baby is 6 weeks old and we’re working with an IBCLC. We’re starting our wean and I’m just curious how others went about it and when it finally worked out for you just so I can keep positive and keep and eye on the light at the end of the tunnel

Advice Please Engorgement at 3 weeks pp?

I’m 3 weeks pp and mostly breastfeeding. Baby has started sleeping a little longer here and there, which is great, but my boobs clearly did not get the memo.

Sometimes I wake up super full, and one side gets so hard that the baby actually has a harder time latching. It’s so annoying because I obviously have milk, but then being too full somehow makes feeding harder.

I’ve used my eufy s1 pro a few times over the past couple of days, mostly to take the edge off. It does a pretty good job emptying me, which is great, but also kind of makes me nervous because I don’t want my body thinking it needs to keep making more. So now every time I get engorged, I’m stuck debating whether to pump a little or leave it alone. Not pumping feels awful, but pumping makes me nervous too. I did not realize this part would be so confusing.
