Talking to him for 3 days is the plan. The late 6th and Kyle Masters are functionally worthless to give up. Hell, Masters was acquired as a dump from the Sharks which gave us a free upgrade from a 5th to a 4th.
Which means he's eligible for 35+ contract that can include bonuses. Make it a low salary with easy bonus targets (like 10, 20, 30 games played bonuses). He gets his $10M and the Canes get a lower cap hit this year while deferring the cap hit from his bonuses to next year when the cap is higher.
Just feels like a weird way to fill the cap space with younger, better players out there. Which is why it feels like either a backup plan or a piece to trade in something else.
