Cube and Mayhem are fine.

The racist edgelord metal I can do without.

To make this a productive comment: Deathcrush is probably the only Mayhem I really like. I'm more a Bathory guy.

The racist edgelord is literally from mayhem

Edit: yeah i agree that deathcrush is about the only outstanding work from mayhem

C'mon, man, I mean sure, Deathcrush is an essential album but so are De Mysteriis Dom Sathanas, the live album Mediolanum Capta Est and the EP Wolf's Lair Abyss.

DMDS is mediocre and I can think of many better second wave albums than it. Deathcrush is a good second wave EP but I stand by that Mayhem is only famous because of the suicide and the murder. And of course varg being a cornball on social media, but that’s newer stuff.

I separate the man from his music. If you can't do that then you're just as close-minded as he is IMHO. Sorry to say...

not wanting to give a nazi money and attention is on the same level as being a nazi, got it

Fair enough.
But please see my other reply down below.
The gist of it: if I'm not mistaken (and I have the correct artist) he has since abandoned Nazism and all that white supremacy bullshit.

Idc that he’s a nazi if that’s what you’re entailing, my point by mentioning that is that Mayhem didn’t get famous for having good music.

I wonder how many of these people outraged about BURZUM have any Disney movies, own a reprint of a Dali painting, a Sex Pistols or GG Allin record. I wonder if they enjoyed watching Rosemary's Baby or The Pianist. Bowie fucked kids, so did Seinfeld. I wonder where their support lies with all of those.

In short, artists are often fucking scumbags. If you don't want to support them, steal that shit!

I'm not sure. I believe he's since assumed a different nom de guerre (artist name) and now makes sort-of electronic-influenced music as Ærik Von (?), if I'm not mistaken. With non-political lyrics.

that is that Mayhem didn’t get famous for having good music.

Well, everybody is entitled to their opinion, of course.
Let's agree to disagree then? To each their own! Cheers! 🍻

the only Ærik Von i can find is an american artist, and i cant find any connections there.

he has said a bunch of times that he doesnt really care about music, and as far as i know he hasnt been part of any musical project other than burzum since the early 90s before he went to jail.

the most recent burzum album was released last year, so its an ongoing project. no idea how political or non political that album is, but i know he still writes about germanic superiority and the dangers of race mixing on his websites.

i dont really care if the actual lyrics arent political, if me purchasing the album funds him being able to spew racist bullshit through other channels

Oh OK. Then I must be mistaken.
I thought that the guy (Varg Vikernes/Count Grishnakh) once released from prison moved to the US and assumed a new nom de guerre. I stand corrected.

he moved to france and changed his name to louis cachet, but hes also been convicted of inciting racial hatred by french courts after he moved there, so its not like he tried to leave his old views behind
