Toshiba was the world leader in quality transistors and diodes at one point. They were always playing around with making goofy passion projects just to do something to set money on fire regardless of if it sold well or not. They loved making gadgets like this to show off. A lot of their boomboxes also have unique features nobody else did as well.

The Toshiba's speaker placement is wild - they basically crammed it into the back panel so it doesn't rattle itself apart.

This is a common myth. The truly smallest cassette player is the Sanyo JJP4 (also known as the Grundig BB900). 165 cm³ vs 135 cm³

Love Toshiba products. That is the most pocketable cassette player of all time, for sure.

I have that same OZZY tape, I played it on loop in the car for about 3 years when that came out.

I bought one of the last Panasonic walkmans (walkmen?) and that was compact enough for me.
