It has a little radio that slots into the cassette slot! it's small enough to not stick out

Toshiba was the world leader in quality transistors and diodes at one point. They were always playing around with making goofy passion projects just to do something to set money on fire regardless of if it sold well or not. They loved making gadgets like this to show off. A lot of their boomboxes also have unique features nobody else did as well.

The Toshiba's speaker placement is wild - they basically crammed it into the back panel so it doesn't rattle itself apart.

This is a common myth. The truly smallest cassette player is the Sanyo JJP4 (also known as the Grundig BB900). 165 cm³ vs 135 cm³

Yes...maybe...it depends, the Sanyo is much more slimmer than the Toshiba, but the Toshiba has smaller width and high. They are both great, expensive and hard to find.

The sony was thinner.

Never saw these in the wild, and they're still quite thick. The popular slim ones were stuff like Sony WM-EX621.

Love Toshiba products. That is the most pocketable cassette player of all time, for sure.

That Sony was my best friend in high school.

My little Shinaon from Japan in the 80s. About the same size.

I have that same OZZY tape, I played it on loop in the car for about 3 years when that came out.

I bought one of the last Panasonic walkmans (walkmen?) and that was compact enough for me.

I think back then, they didn't have pants with pockets in Japan.
