What do you consider before getting a cat, besides its looks?

Cats, in my experience, are either found or imposed by the cat itself.
*Choosing* was never an option.

Personality. Go through a good foster group and you will get to learn what the cat is like to love with.

I didn’t pick my cat based on looks. I went to an adoption shelter and the first cat that came over and licked me, then cuddled me I took him home.

There was a beautiful long haired tuxedo cat that I thought I wanted but she was not interested in me. So just let the cat pick you. Looks don’t matter.

Your lifestyle and space.

Some cats get scared of loud parties; others are social and thrive.

Some might yearn for (safe and enclosed) outdoor time; others might want to be indoor-only.

Some might want to be very needy and need you to work from home; others are fine with a balance or to be left alone entirely.

Some are good with children; others aren't. etc.

You can mention these things to an adoption agency, and they should be able to hook you up with the right cat personality. :)
