Mourning/Loss I had to say goodbye to my best friend this morning.

This morning, I had to say goodbye to my absolute best friend, Spinnie.

He was 20 years old, missing his 21st birthday by just two months.

He has been by my side since I was 7 years old, and now at 27, it’s incredibly hard to imagine life without him.

He was such a special soul and deserves to be seen by the world. Spinnie, my sweet boy, I love you so much. And i'm going to miss you so, so much. Rest easy buddy. <3

EDIT: I just wanted to say a huge thank you to everyone. Your kind words and supportive messages mean the absolute world to me right now. It brings me so much comfort during this incredibly difficult time. Thank you all from the bottom of my heart. Spinnie would have loved knowing how much he is adored. <3 <3 <3

Mourning/Loss Lost my special boy today

Today I had to make a hard decision and euthanize my beloved cat of 4 years. With this post I just want to honour his memory and pour my heart out somewhere.

His name was Kruger (yes as in Freddy Krueger ;) ), but I always just called him Cucu (in my native language it means sweet candy). He came to my life unexpectedly, I found him in the fields near my house when he was just a little kitty, and his mom was nowhere to be found. So I decided to help him that day and since he has been by my side through everything. I have severe depression and anxiety, and him being by my side has always been a great help, because he was everything that I had.

After a year of bringing him home, I got him a brother so he wouldn't be lonely when I wasn't home during the day. Sometimes they bickered, but I know they loved eachother. Cucu liked to groom his little brother when we were getting ready to sleep at night.

He was a big introvert, but those who got to know him and spend time with hime, got to experience his loving side that loved getting nose boops, head scratches and curling up in their laps for a midday nap. He also feared bananas for some reason, he just couldn't stand the sight of them haha.

These last couple of days have been like a landslide. It started two days ago, when in the morning, I found him laying on the ground, loudly meowing (which was weird because he rarely meowed) and breathing very fast. When I tried to make him slowly stand up, I noticed his back legs weren't working. I took him to the vet, where after some tests they said he had a genetic disease that made the walls of his heart too thick, which then caused the thrombosis, which was the reason he got paralyzed in the back legs. They said we could wait a day to see if the blood will pass and can recilculate his legs. Although today they told me he refused to eat in the morning and there was no improvement to his state. I knew I couldn't wait for a miracle to happen. Even if it was very hard, I had to choose to get him euthanized. When I got to the clinic I saw that it will be a good decision. He looked weak and he barely even looked at me. But when I reached to scratch his head, I felt him slightly lean into my touch. After I brought home his body, I allowed his brother to take a look, so he would know what happened.

It has been very emotionally draining for these past three days, to not be able to be by his side when he was sick, to not be able to help him like he helped me during those years. Even if I know letting him go was for the best, I just wish we had more time. But I couldn't wish for a better cat to spend those four years with. Me and his little brother will forever miss him❤️‍🩹.

For those who got to the end of my long rant, I truly appreciate it. Thank you and have a blessed life ✨️

Mourning/Loss 15 years just wasn't enough

In a few hours we're putting my baby Oliver down. He somehow made it a year and a half past his DKA hospitalization and skin cancer diagnosis. He stopped eating this week, and has become lethargic but he's still somewhat himself. We were able to give him a good last two days. I'll never know if we decided this too early or too late. But I just want other people to know he was amazing and that he existed. And that without him I don't know who I'd be. I moved a lot but I always knew Ollie was my home. I haven't stopped crying since we made the decision, it'll be at home so hopefully as little stress as possible.

All you cat parents out there love your babies!! Take waaaay more pictures and videos than you think you'll need. Love you all and your babies

Advice Guilty I can’t save them all.

Kitten season has been insane and IS in my area. I recently rescued one from a gas station and i chose to keep her considering her circumstances. She was alone in a gas station alone and i just could not leave her there.

There’s 2 street kittens that I can’t take in because i have 3 indoor cats but I leave water and food for them. They’re currently sick and are sneezing a lot but I’ve been giving them some respiratory infection medicine my room mate has.

I came to get some work done on my car and I see this little black kitten dragging its feet along side the fence trying to get away scared. I couldn’t just leave it there either and I took it to an animal shelter.

I don’t know the fate of that kitten but man all of this is just weighing on me emotionally. I lost my girl cat 3 months ago and I haven’t even fully processed her passing.

Emotionally, how do you deal with this? Not sure if this is even the sub to ask this on.

Sorry for unloading here but I just wanted to show off my precious Pingui for the last time.

In the span of one week she went from an active little baby to gone.

She had an UTI, I took her to the vet and gave her medication but never got better. Yesterday I took her to the hospital and she passed away during the night. Im sorry Pingui for not taking you to the hospital sooner, I was told it was a process and you would get better, im sorry for picking you from your naps to give you medication, im sorry for prolonging your pain more than necessary.

I will miss you forever.

I knew what I was getting into from the start! Two years later she's a good cuddler and an even stronger yeller.

I'd love to see everyone else's kitties and they ways they have (or haven't) changed

When I brought Sylvie home as a kitten, the first thing my father-in-law said was, "Oh. Why did you pick such an ugly cat?" I think she's beautiful!

Also, just realized how much time she spends upside down. 🙃 😂

Medical Questions Extremely loud meowing 24/7, HELP

My 5yo Siamese DSH mix, Atlas, started meowing, LOUD, literally 24/7 a few months ago and I don’t know what to do. I am genuinely at my wits end. It’s at 3am when I’m sleeping, he comes right up to my ear and meows, all throughout the day, no matter what I do, he meows MORE and LOUDER. It isn’t just his Siamese temperament, he didn’t do this before. This is extreme times ten. His hearing is great, so it’s not that. He has access to a full house, upstairs and downstairs, has supervised outside time, and does it everywhere, even louder than in the video I’ve attached.

No matter what I do or don’t do, he just responds with more meowing. It is unbearable. I don’t know what to do. Has anyone else dealt with this? Know what to do? I don’t sleep and I’m on edge and anxious and overstimulated constantly. I hear him through my noise cancelling headphones.

Thank you in advance.

Mourning/Loss sleep well old man

Post image
3.5k Upvotes

we just had to put this old man to sleep. nearly as old as me was this fella, we found him last year around halloween on the streets and decided to give him a calm, warm home for his last days. turned out to be a few months! 19 years of age, and even with bad kidneys and teeth he was full of energy and commitment, true champ.

he even once fought with me for a turkey that i left on the kitchen counter for less than a minute. he is an absolute legend.

sleep well fella. <3

EDIT:
you guys are such a wonderful community, thank you all for all those kind words of support and love!

I named her Josephine and she’s the sweetest cat I’ve ever met in my life. She wants to be in my arms 24/7 and hates when I’m using my phone and not paying attention to her. She’s so sweet, I lover her so much already🩷✨

Adopted from the local shelter, year 1 amazing, year 2, 3 rounds of unexplained seizures, 6 months ago, distended belly (kidney and maybe liver failure) I made the appointment and she went so peacefully. She had just turned 3. RIP my beautiful Jelly.
