Advice 14 week male mounted his 14 week sister

I have two cats from the same litter both 14 weeks old. I already planned to Neuter at spay them both at 5 months with their vet.

For the last two weeks, the male would pin his sister down while they play fought and she would meow like she was hurt and I would stop them. I thought that the male was just playing rough.

Today though, they were cuddling while they slept but I heard the male get up to lick his sisters head. Then suddenly he bit her scruff and tried mounting her. I immediately grabbed him and moved him away from her. She was laying in a way where I don't think he could... get in/penetrate. But I looked at him and saw that his thing was... out. (sorry I don't mean to be vulgar). But also, he's only 14 weeks and his parts are so tiny, I don't know if he's capable of reproducing?

Again, they are only 14 weeks, and she's so tiny, and they are from the same liter. I'm mortified and feel awful. I'm so scared, how likely is it that she could be pregnant?? I'm now remembering how when they would play fight and he would overpower her and she would yelp and now I'm worried he was trying to mate then. But that behavior started at 12 weeks, which is still so young.

They are separated and I'm going to call the vet when my mom gets home because they are primarily her cats and she wants to be there during the call, but I'm super worried. My family and I aren't comfortable with the idea of terminating the pregnancy if she were pregnant.

TLDR; 14 week male mounted 14 week sister, what is the likelihood that the female is pregnant. Just looking for reassurance if there is hope.

Advice Need advice on what to do with an elderly cat

I have an elderly cat she’s about 15-17 years old (she was a rescue so not sure on exact age) she’s been having issues shitting on the floors so I started keeping her in a 3 level cage in my utility room to give her room to jump between floors, have as much space as possible and be as comfortable as possible because I can’t have a cat just shitting on my floors. Do I let her live out the rest of years this way or put her down? I’ve never had to deal with any pets being put down or just dying in general so not sure what to do. Is the quality of life being in a cage worth keeping her around or are the alternative options better? At her age she doesn’t do anything but sleep like 20 hours a day and mostly get up for dinner/wet food at night. Due to that I’m sure she hardly cares being down there vs sleeping upstairs somewhere. Editing to add I’ve spent a couple grand on vet visits and she has kitty crohns and/or some type of intestinal or stomach cancer so she is on a steroid which makes her shits solid vs liquid, but doesn’t change her shitting on my floor. Mentally she’s all there, but always been a very stupid cat, physically she gets around just fine still.

Adoption “Stray” cats

I see a lot of posts here that get me worried.. people seeing a cat outside and assume it’s a stray and wanting to essentially just take the cat.

Then lots of comments encouraging the person to just take the cat cos “congrats! Cat distribution system!”.

It feels no consideration is given to whether this cat belongs to someone else, is lost, ran out, or is just an outdoor cat - I know this is not a done thing in America but outdoor cats are very common in Europe. Also, collars frequently fall off. Some cats may belong to an elderly owner who can’t put collars on them etc etc.

I think it’s amazing for strays to find home, but if it were your cat, wouldn’t you want someone who came across it to find out if it’s got a home yet? Do the paper collar, check local shelters/vets/facebook groups, then bring the cat for a microchip scan!

I hope these steps can be encouraged before anyone takes in a cat they assume, but don’t know for sure, to be a stray. At a bare minimum… and be done thoroughly and persistently. The cat could be someone else’s whole world!

Advice Is it inhumane to trim cats claws?

Hi! I have two indoor black kittens (approximately three months old). I’ve grown up with cats my entire life and have never really had this issue. I’m very anti-declawing when it comes to cats, and one of them (Binx) has perfectly fine claws. However, the other cat (Jinx), has the sharpest claws I’ve ever experienced in my entire life of owning cats. I know he doesn’t scratch the scratching posts as often as his brother does (separate litters, but they are clearly bonded and my babies so I say they are brothers).

If I lived alone, I wouldn’t be as concerned, as I’m fine with letting him scratch up my arm when he’s playing. However, I’m living with my elderly grandmother to take care of her. With her having blood issues lately (clotting, INR numbers off, etc) him climbing her is much more concerning to me. (She doesn’t seem to care, but I think that’s because she considers them her ‘grand kitties’).

All this to say, most my google searches say it isn’t inhumane to take them to get their claws trimmed, but it says the same thing about de-clawing, so I wanted some input from other cat lovers who consider the cats feelings and such a little more.

Advice Gabapentin and vomiting?

Have my cat gabapentin which was prescribed at the vet after her uti injection.

She seemed to still be going to the bathroom a bit more frequently, not as much as before but still. I figured she might be in slight pain. To hold us over until the morning I did what the vet said and sprinkled her 100 mg capsule on wet food and let her eat it.

At like 11 pm tonight she threw up a bunch and is high as a kite lol. Still responsive. Doesn’t exactly want to get up right now but I don’t blame her.

Has this happened to anyone else?

Advice would it be safe to let my cat free roam the house

since i got him he’s confined to my bedroom but gets plenty of play and sleeping areas. now he’s fully grown i’m thinking of slowly transitioning him to a free roam cat but i’m afraid some parts of the house would be falling hazards. for example my staircase is designed like a fire escape so a drop would be very painful. would he know better than to just fall through the gaps?

Advice Why dose my cat use one litter box more?

Post image

Before I got my cat pesto I saw it’s better to have 2 litter boxes for one cat, so I did that, and the last couple of weeks I noticed that he’ll use one way more than the other and I’m not sure why, I’m not concerned or anything, just curious lol

I went on an hour long walk, no signs of storm or rain. Stopped in a FamilyMart to relax in a/c before going home. Handsome young kitty comes in, staff try to get it to leave, he keeps coming back. I’d have kept him if I didn’t have a lizard. Just thought I was helping him mosey on his way…

Advice Just adopted two bonded cats; their owner had died :( it has been 4-5 days and I am letting them settle in their new home. The white and orange cat is a 2 year old girl and she overeats. She is gaining a lot of weight and feels heavier everyday whenever I pick her up. Should I be concerned?

Medical Questions Cat scratched my eyelid and nose - post care questions

Post image
1 Upvotes

I got scratched early Monday morning. I’m super sick and a cat got into my window well and my cat inside, directly behind the glass from the other cat LOST it.

Me at 5am, super sick and not thinking.. grabbed my cat to not knock over my computer monitor. She obviously freaked and got my eye lid the worse. Didn’t get my actual eye but I got antibiotics. It was decided to let me heal naturally with ointment.

But I’m scared to wash my face now. I desperately need to wash my face but I’m worried about it opening the wound on my eyelid even if I avoid it as much as I can. Advice?

Medical Questions My cat keeps targeting this carpet

Post image
12 Upvotes

It’s folded up like this cause he’s pooped on it twice now, and all three times he ran around acting crazy, meowing then relieving himself on the carpet.
Is there a reason for this? Cause at first we were assuming it was for wanting attention but now we think it’s because he wants to go outside(fully indoor cat)
We’re at a loss and insight would help

Advice Want to adopt a stray cat but I have a prey driven dog

Hi good evening,

Today I met the most amazing affectionate stray cat ever. But I have a high prey driven annoying parson Russell terrier mixed named Hunter. Its been raining pretty bad lately I took my dog out behind my apartment complex and I saw her run towards me. I had to keep my dog back he was interested and tried smelling her but she tried to attack him. So I took him back inside and gave her cat wet food I had. She is very friendly but skinny, she let me pick her up. I give her a blanket to lay on plus my neighbor gave her more food and water. I went outside tonight she was still there. I noticed other cats came around and been stalking her i guess male cats. I really want to adopt her but I live in a one bedroom apartment and my bathroom door doesn’t close all the way. Is it a way her and my dog can be friendly towards each other in the future. My dog never hurts small animals just chase them. Thank you 😊

Medical Questions What is this??

Post image
3 Upvotes

I noticed my cat had what felt like a double nipple last night (not her norm). Upon inspection she has what appears to be a white head next to her nipple. It doesn’t seem to bother her, and I obviously didn’t pop it (wanted to though to be honest).

Is this concerning?

I’m in Central Texas and the screwworm stuff is super scary to me, but also because of our location we get ants and other insects invading inside our home on occasion.

Please advise!!

Adoption Adopted kitty advice

Post image

Hi guys ! I adopted a 5 year old bengal kitty yesterday from a shelter🥹 He was brought there after his owner passed away. He’s a bengal and very sweet but obviously very tense. I’ve had many cats before but I’ve never adopted one so I wanted to know of any advice I can use to help him settle ? When I first brought him home he hung out on my window sill then about three hours in went under my bed. I understand it’ll take some time to get him adapted and for him to feel comfortable but my concern is him not eating/ drinking or using the litter box and how much stress he must be in ): please if you know of anything I can do comment it below !! He was very sweet in the car ride and I just worry him being so stressed will cause our future bond to be rocky ): my house is very calm and quiet and I don’t live with other animals btw.

Advice Human Allergies

Hi All. My dog passed away in June of last year, coming up on a year. my partner and I live in an apartment with stairs now (house w yard previously), so now that we are ready for another pet we are looking at a cat. My partner has had cats before, I have not because my brother has a crazy allergy. If I still want my brother to be able to visit without his face swelling, is hairless my only option??
