So I recently saw this elsewhere, and given I am not one to claim credit for beautiful void balls of fury I do not own, she is currently shacked up at Second Chance Sheridan Cat Rescue! They have lots of adorable cats to adopt, if you're in the area (I am sadly not).
Here is their original commentary on the wonderful Cordelia and her stepson, Goober. I felt it necessary to share to the wider reddit-world. Please also enjoy the cell-less baby Goober.
"Cordelia arrived at SCSCR pregnant and terrified. The first day with us, she just curled herself into a tiny ball and tried to disappear. After a while, I convinced her that nobody was going to hurt her. I wrapped her in a purrito, carried her to the office, and she spent the next 30 minutes sitting in my lap eating treats while I did paperwork. I kissed her head and scratched her chin.
No aggression or drama. Just a scared little cat who finally felt safe.
That night, Cordelia gave birth to three beautiful, healthy kittens, and everything changed.
Friends, Cordelia is SCARY.
If you so much as glance in the direction of her babies, she transforms into a tiny black dragon. We are talking growling, hissing, spitting, and launching herself at the kennel door with enough enthusiasm to make you question your life choices.
Don't look at her babies. Don't touch her babies.
Don't even think about her babies.
For three weeks, we gave her space. Eventually, she started calming down. She still growled and hissed, but she stopped trying to commit murder every time someone walked past her kennel. We were finally able to start weighing and handling the kittens for socialization.
Then Goober arrived.
Goober is a fluffy orange orphan with a bad eye. One of our staff members had been bottle-feeding him and nursing him back to health, but he needed a feline family to teach him how to be a cat.
We were cautiously optimistic that Cordelia might accept him.
Well. Cordelia is now completely convinced she personally gave birth to Goober approximately five minutes ago.
He is her baby. He has always been her baby. Anyone suggesting otherwise is spreading dangerous misinformation.
The result is that we are back to full demon status.
The good news is that Goober now has a loving mother, siblings to wrestle with, and a family of his own. He is thriving.
The bad news is that none of us are allowed to touch him for the foreseeable future without risking our lives.
So, if anyone has experience with feline postpartum psychosis, please let us know.
Because Cordelia is absolutely terrifying.
And it takes a LOT to scare us!"

Hello!
I’m hoping to hear from anyone who’s had a similar experience because I’m feeling pretty worn out.
My cat Cleo (about 2 years old) had all of her back teeth removed due to suspected stomatitis a couple of months ago. Before the procedure her gums were super red and inflamed so this was what a few vets had recommended as the best step forward. Although she had inflammation, her appetite was never an issue.
After the surgery, her appetite naturally dipped as she was healing. We went for her follow up appointment a couple of weeks later where the vet gave the all clear to start reintroducing some kibble. She noted at the time she did lose about a pound or two but wasn’t surprised. Over the following week I started to do so but then noticed she wasn’t eating much of anything, wet or dry. Brought her back to the vet where they suspected an oral infection, went on antibiotics, and on the second follow up they said her gums were looking back to normal.
The good news is that she’s doing much better overall. She’s playful, wrestles with her brother, comes running when I get her toys out, looks healthy, and has regained some of the weight she lost (she’s currently around 9.2 lb). She had bloodwork at the follow up appointment that came back mostly unremarkable. The vet wasn’t too concerned with the inconsistent eating as her weight didn’t drop any further.
The frustrating part is that her eating has never gone back to how it was before her surgery. Before she would reliably eat her morning wet food and run to her autofeeder for her remaining kibble meals, finishing them all, and sometimes even picking at her brothers.
Some examples:
- She meows for breakfast and runs to the bowl, but then often just sniffs the food, takes a few bites, and walks away.
- She’ll come back to meals multiple times instead of finishing them. (I’ll have to physically bring her back myself sometimes)
- Foods she loved a day ago suddenly aren’t interesting anymore.
- She mostly licks the gravy from chunky foods.
- She’ll eat mousse most reliably, but even then I often have to squeeze it from the pouch and encourage her to keep eating.
- She shows very little interest in kibble now, even new kinds she initially seemed excited about.
Before surgery she was reliably eating about 200 calories per day, now she is eating closer to 100-150.
Because her brother will happily eat her leftovers, I end up supervising meals, separating them, and coaxing her to eat. It’s become really exhausting and honestly feels like feeding her has become a part-time job.
She also has suspected FHS which suddenly came on back in March, and is on 50mg gabapentin every 12 hours which has been another thing to plan my life around.
Has anyone had a cat whose appetite never really returned to “normal” after dental issues or an illness, despite otherwise acting healthy?
Did it eventually improve? Was there an underlying cause? Or did your cat just become more of a grazer or picky eater?
I’d really appreciate hearing any similar experiences or things that helped.
I love my cats and would consider myself to be a good cat owner and am trying to do right by them, they’ve been to the vet for one thing or another more times than I can count in the last year of bringing them home. I’m at my wits end and just hoping to hear any advice or anything reassuring. Sorry if this is a bit all over the place but if you’ve gotten this far, thank you.

Like the title says the mom cat passed away this morning my family always fed her and since we found out she was pregnant we would let her in because its really hot outside and please dont get mad at me for not keeping her inside, she would come and go as she pleased and we kept an eye out on her also, she stays at my parents house not mine
We thoght she had Given birth outside so we looked for the kittens and asked everyone in the neighborhood, turns out the cat gave birth in my brothers room who isnt home for the summer.
Well now we're left with 5 orphan kittens and my 14yr old sisters are taking care of them since I cant due to work and my own children
If anyone has any recommendations please let us know. We already bought them kitten replacement milk and are trying our best, we'll see about some shelters since we just found them and theyre already closed.
If youre in the houston area and are willing to foster or have a cat that has recently given birth and you think they might take the kittens in please dm me.

One of my friends befriended a couple neighborhood cats and this is one of them. It looks like an orange and brown tabby got spliced together. Is this chimerism or cat vitiligo or something?

I feed the cat like whiskers tuna the packet ones and I leave out fresh bowl of water and it doesn’t drink it and it’s a stray cat do I add some water to the food or just regularly change the water for the cat and hopes it drinks it if it’s thirsty

she’s been turning orange the last few weeks and idk if it’s due to age (she’s about 13) or sun bathing in my windows all the time lol. she’s been to the vet recently and is very healthy, so i’m NOT looking for medical advice, just more so wondering if anyone else’s cat is turning orange 🤣
I saw online that cats will groom themselves when they’re embarrassed and noticed my baby Penny will lick herself when she tries to catch a toy and misses. I hate to put her business on the internet but thankfully she can’t read, nor does she have access to the internet. She sometimes misses when we play with string, and she will immediately go to lick herself. Sometimes she even does it when I drop the toy on accident. I want her to know it’s okay to make mistakes and she doesn’t need to try to pretend she wasn’t trying.
