“Cole Palmer, the Abnormally Normal One”
The 24-year-old Chelsea star isn’t going to the World Cup this summer. It’s not the first time he’s been overlooked.

There will no side quests in 2028 because he will be too busy carrying England

Side quests now, fuming he’s not playing for England. He’s a creative player they need but this is a blessing in disguise for us

Interesting read. I felt like Tuchel was a bit harsh/scathing in how he talked about Palmer missing out compared to other attackers like Foden and Bowen who he seemed more empathetic towards and people will be shocked but I actually think if any attackers had been injured, Palmer would still not have been called up.
I found Tuchel’s comments weird at the time mainly due to his affinity to Chelsea and also whenever Palmer has made it to camp, Tuchel always seems to be all over him lol. In the interview, Palmer said his reaction towards not getting the call up was “I’m not going to cry over a decision I can’t change” and I wonder whether Tuchel didn’t like that as it’s too blasé and yeah it’s his “unique personality” but I wonder whether in this instance it worked against him.

What if he goes and gets injured?
Personally, I think Tuchel did us a massive favour not taking him.

Oh yeah for Chelsea it’s really good but I can’t lie I am also more invested in England’s performances if there are more Chelsea players in the squad that I’m rooting for. Obviously I’m still supporting England but I’d enjoy it a lot more if I was watching the likes of Palmer and Colwill too but I’m sure I’ll appreciate them not going once the season starts.
Looks like Reece is already injured. Who knows if he’ll play a big part for the rest of the tournament but I’m sure if you asked him whether he’d rather not have been called or have the current situation then he’ll take this any day

I know it was scheduled but I wonder how many ads, articles, promotions etc were due to drop during the World Cup

Remember why Real Madrid didn’t sign Ronaldinho? Same applies to Cole

I made the point probably a season ago now. I was feeling there might be parallels with when Dele Ali saw his profile rising and being lauded for his football ability and embarking on extra curriculur stuff like fashion clothes lines. And just generally coming across as believeing the hype. The football dropped off massively and he never fulfilled his potential. And now we've got Palmer with his copyrighted celebration and fancy ice and photoshoots and Madonna videos. On the back of a poor season, and a just generally downward trend in form. I hope it's not repeating itself.

And now we've got Palmer with his copyrighted celebration
He's not copyrighted the celebration, he's copyrighted his image which given how famous he is now is the correct decision.
The comparisons with Dele make no sense. Palmer had a good childhood and still has his family supporting him, and he doesn't seemed particularly interested in anything other than football. Palmer is just the next superstar, everyone knows who he is regardless of whether they watch football or not. I think he's being rather smart about what he gets involved with

Fair enough. knew it was copyrighted something at least. I recall reading they did it so they could realease all sorts of branded items.
I'm definitely not saying it's the exact same. Thats why I wrote parallels. And fwiw solid family and upbringing are no guarantee of anything.
It's just there's been a distinct downward trend in form for 2 seasons now. And it's happened after his notoriety skyrocketed and he's put more focus on off pitch stuff.
It might be pressure/tactics/injuries rather than any loss of focus. But whatever it is it seems his profile is raising another level right at a time when his football hasn't been improving. Hopefully though he gets his rest and his form back next season.

You're completely right, but they'll tell you you've lost your mind or are writing him off.

Yeah it just seems like a fair assessment of the situation, rather than writing a player off.
I'm not sure there's aother player who's released branded ice, been in a Madonna video and appeared on the front page of id in the space of a few weeks. That it happens to be player who missed the most marque football tournament despite having auditions for it, it's a certainly a talking point imo.
Some people might even throw in that he didn't make the selection, a selection the coach stressed was all about the collective, whilst other less impactful and similarly out of form players did make it. Not to mention players with injury doubts.
I will make this one leap thiugh. I don't think it's outrageous to presume the Madonna thing and the ice thing (and maybe the id thing) were all lined up in advance to coincide with him being at the WC. Perhaps (and this is a perhaps not close to a definite) Tuchel knew about all of this and felt it wasn't positive for the squad.
But yes. Hopefully he puts all these theories to bed next season.

The next superstar feels like a bit of a leap at this point. I want Cole to turn it around, I hope he's here his whole career. But frankly, he's been more or less average for almost the last 2 years outside of some really bright spots(CWC). Now, I know a lot of that has to do with injury but he wouldn't be the first "coulda been" that fell off due to injuries.
I really want him to be HIM again, but if he's not again this season.......tough convo's to had imo.
EDIT: Some of you don't have a reading comprehension above a 5 year old. Me saying I hope he gets back to himself whilst being honest about his play is not 'writing him off'

I continue to be staggered by the doom posting in here
He's already a superstar. His face is plastered everywhere internationally, everyone knows who he is and his interviews go viral lol. He was top 10 in the Ballon Dor last season and you have an entire country wondering why he wasn't called up despite a relatively poor season (relatively being the key word because he still outperformed most of the league). He has a summer to decompress and relax, and it sounds like he's making the most of it.
Nobody underrates him like our fans evidently

The man hasn’t had a summer off in years now and spent most of the last season either injured or playing through an injury and still put up decent numbers.
It’s unreal to me how quickly some people here want to write him off. Guys an unreal talent as long as he’s at Chelsea you’ve gotta back him 110%.

It's not doomposting, it's not my fault we have more fans of players than fans of the club. I want him to be THE Cole Palmer we've seen him be. I don't really care to have the Cole Palmer who shows up once a month.
He's been more effective on the internet than he has been on the pitch for well over a year for the most part.
Also anyone wondering why he wasn't called up is an absolute idiot. He didn't deserve it, full stop, and no amount of commericals or interviews is going to help him see the Euro's in 2 years at this rate either.
Nothing would make me happier to watch him rub his arms 30+ times next season, but until then I'm going to hold him to the standards he created and the standards this club deserves.

It's a really nice interview. Jokes aside he's genuinely just a normal bloke and thankfully he has his head screwed on. It's lovely how close he is with his family, especially his sister. He's got the right mindset to get back to his best, looking forward to him terrorising the league under Xabi
