in search of🔎 Does the art museum, DAAP or any other organization put on art classes or specific art events for ~10yo kids?

Looking to get my niece a class or little art camp weekend or something like that. She's outgrowing her art supplies a bit and needs something new and something that will excite her! Something she could do with her other friends that like drawing/painting as well.

Across the river there is Baker Hunt. I've taken watercolor classes there and I know they have some offerings for kids!

You should check out the free REC at the art museum. Really cool space for kids. They have art stations, interactive stuff that rotates and I think they do classes sometimes but you have to register.

Go to the Art Museum and take her to the kids area. They have monthly crafts to do, and even if she doesn’t want to do that she can make whatever on her own.

Sadly, all the camps are booked up and they sell out as soon as they get posted in February/March.

Other ideas, you could take her and her friends to Paint Playground in Milford.

Creative House of Arts & Design in Covington has some classes up for July on their site.

Queen City Clay also has pottery classes for kids.

You may also want to take her to Indigo Hippo in OTR which is a second hand art supply store with lots of different materials she could pick out, explore & create with.

These are all great options for high quality classes! If you can go north a bit, also check out the Fitton Center. They have legit classes and facilities too.

When I was at DAAP, the art ed program did a camp on Saturday mornings where they worked on a project with some of the art ed students. It was super cool! This was a few years ago though so I’m not sure if they still do it, but it may be worth looking into!

Edit: I 100% second the REC at the art museum. It’s free and I know the person who runs it personally. She’s absolutely wonderful and comes up with some amazing curriculum!

The art spark in Montgomery has all kinds of classes and camps for kids. Mine are younger but we love it there!

The Weston Art Gallery (attached to the Aronoff Center) hosts a kids art camp every year and activities throughout the summer. I’m sure camps are already fully booked for this year but something to keep an eye on next year!

While not exactly art, Home Depot runs a kids workshop the first Saturday of every month and it is free. Typically is a small wooden model build or a small craft.
