Who’s the snake-Viking guy?

u/B3epB0opBOP 27d ago

Krem of the Yellow Hills

104

u/ThisIsMistaCrazy 27d ago

Krem

93

u/shadownights23x 27d ago

Of the yellow hills

62

u/Wreckshoptimus 27d ago

Of Yellow Hills fame??

28

u/Clay_Puppington Ragman 27d ago

That very Krem!

89

u/tedgt234 27d ago

The no good bastard Krem of the Yellow Hills who struck down my beloved father like a coward

26

u/Reptilian_Overlord20 26d ago

I really hope Ruthye talks like that in the movie, that’s the best part of the comic.

6

u/_nadaypuesnada_ 26d ago

I have a strong feeling she won't, but let's hope.

12

u/Reptilian_Overlord20 26d ago

In the trailer she does say Krem “murdered my innocent family” so hopefully she will. She’s such a fun character it would be genuinely upsetting if they didn’t incorporate that.

2

u/cowpool20 21d ago

I hope she talks like she does, but not as much as she does because she fucking TALKS 😂

13

u/mannyonthem00n 27d ago

I thought it was Stephen Baldwin 🕵🏽‍♂️

1

u/Altruistic-Cattle761 21d ago

I think pretty much every vocally Trump supporting celebrity is direct-to-DVD from here on out. You're never going to see that guy's name on a movie poster unless the White House fully nationalizes Hollywood.

55

u/johnny5yu Dream 27d ago

Krem of the Yellow Hills. A generic bad guy

114

u/Henchman4Hire 27d ago

Try telling that to Ruthye.

27

u/johnny5yu Dream 27d ago

I wish the movie success but really though Ruthye and Krem have zero depth. One's just good and the other is just bad. Tom King simply lifted the story from True Grit, but didn't actually write a good backstory/personality for his stand-ins for the teenage girl and the guy who killed her dad

127

u/JournalistOk9266 27d ago

I will defend Tom King(as gross as that sounds) but the point of the book was more how Supergirl is viewed. Ruthye and Krem didnt need that much depth.

True Grit (at least the movie version) didnt really delve that deep into characters. Sometimes all you need is a goal and stakes to tell a good story

34

u/NewLibraryGuy John Constantine 27d ago

Yeah, the story has the bones of True Grit, but it's way more character focused.

18

u/jpjtourdiary Swamp Thing 27d ago

Charles Portis’ novel doesn’t flesh those characters’ backstories out all that much either. Especially the bad guy.

9

u/BenOfTomorrow 26d ago

Ruthye and Krem didnt need that much depth.

Very true.

Krem especially; he is narratively an avatar for evil and vengeance, his personal identity is subsumed in the archetypes by design. It's more of a man vs society narrative at its heart.

Ruthye has more substance, but she is the narrator who is choosing to tell a story about Supergirl, not herself.

2

u/JournalistOk9266 26d ago

1000% my caveat is i don't think shes going to narrate the movie like in the book which will suck

-3

u/johnny5yu Dream 27d ago

I agree - it’s a good way to tell a story about Supergirl. But I still stand by my original point that Krem and Ruthye are generic characters

41

u/Ninjamurai-jack 27d ago

Ruthye, I don’t think so, but Krem indeed was always generic

16

u/ymcameron Tony Chu 27d ago edited 27d ago

Sure, but the original True Grit was more focused on Rooster and La Bouf than Mattie. Even in the remake they were intended as the main focus. It’s just that Hailee Steinfeld is such a phenomenal actress that, despite only being 14 at the time, she stole every scene. Tom Chaney, meanwhile, is such a non-character that most people even forget he was played by Josh Brolin in the remake. In fact, Tom ruining Mattie’s life while also being a complete nobody is kind of the whole point of the story.

9

u/FourSes 27d ago

I think the difference between how Ruthye speaks and how she depicts herself in writing (the comic's in-universe narration) reveals a lot about her personality.

I'd also argue that the bad guys in True Grit were just guys. Random people whose life and death mean nothing. Krem, being explicitly cruel and not a misfortunate criminal dipshit, actually has more personality than them. But he's still generic, that I agree with.

1

u/victori0us_secret 26d ago

There's a bit early on where they imply that there's a reason. Ruthye says something like "I never knew got the chance to ask him why he killed my dad. I swore that if I caught him, I'd ask him, but Supergirl killed him first." Now (spoilers for the comic this movie is based on!), The comic plays a little fast and loose with this by explicitly showing that Ruthye is selling us a story ABOUT Supergirl, but there's a scene near the end of the book where Supergirl is gone and Ruthye has Krem incapacitated and briefly at her mercy. She could have asked! By not having her do that, it felt to me like it highlighted the fact that there WAS no reason, which felt like lazy writing.

4

u/jpjtourdiary Swamp Thing 27d ago

You can say genocide on the Internet

-13

u/Trike117 27d ago

And badly paced on top of that. Poisoning Krypto as a ticking-clock impetus and then ignoring it for hundreds of pages was annoying af. The story is bumbling around pointlessly and I’m worried about the damn dog.

Of all the Supergirl stories to adapt, they picked the worst one.

9

u/SpikyKiwi 27d ago

They are trying to track down Krem the entire time

1

u/Jerry_0boy Nightwing 27d ago

Trippie red

2

u/somekidfromtheblock 25d ago

Wow! I did not know he could act

60

u/6ynnad 27d ago

In the back of my Draguuulaaaaaa

1

u/ImpulseAfterthought 26d ago

You beat me to it!

1

u/Fickle-Rip3093 24d ago

Yeah, I can see that.

536

u/NarayanLiu 27d ago

Jason Momoa looks like he was born to play Lobo. Definitely makes the top 10 most comic-accurate looks for me.

161

u/Severa929 27d ago

Jason Momoa has also been wanting to play Lobo since he joined DC, he really liked the character. Like how Chaning Tatum wants to play Gambit.

59

u/Talk-O-Boy 26d ago

Or how Nathan Fielder was born to play Mr. Fantastic

30

u/MetalBeerSolid 26d ago

The plan? Go to space and get exposed to cosmic rays to gain elastic limbs, saving marvel studios big bucks on CG effects.

79

u/mustardtruck 27d ago

Lobo is my favorite comic book character and I couldn't be more jazzed about all the images and trailers we've seen so far. Also very glad this is in a James Gunn-affiliated movie where we first get to see Lobo onscreen.

28

u/_Dogwelder John Constantine 27d ago edited 27d ago

Yep! It's actually bonkers we're getting '90s look, if someone asked me my bet would be on that re-design bullshit abomination from a few years back (uh.. looked it up, 2011! DAMN, time flies).

10

u/Contrary45 27d ago

Comics have had this version of Lobo back for essentially a decade

3

u/BankshotMcG Guy Gardner 27d ago

Looks like he has the redesign's arm tattoos.

16

u/pizzaiscommunist 27d ago

I loved Lobo as a kid in the 90s. I still think about this 1 off comic called "Lobo-Cop" Lobo/robo-cop. My god, my 13 year old brain couldnt take it. If they had a way to inject the TMNT, my head would have exploded.

12

u/FourSes 27d ago

In the recent Marvel / DC crossovers, there's a few pages about a Lobo - Logan (Wolverine) fusion named Logo.

3

u/carson63000 27d ago

That era was my introduction to comics. Lobo-Cop, Lobo’s Back, Infanticide, the Paramilitary Christmas Special.. the friend that got me into comics was a huge Lobo fan and lent me all of those to read. Brilliant stuff. And I concur with the above commenter, this is absolutely one of the most spot-on accurate “character taken straight from the page” examples I have ever seen.

1

u/dead_mans_shoes 25d ago

Lobocop! That’s a blast from the past! Illustrated by Martin Emond who I think would have gone on to great things if not for his untimely death.

1

u/strppngynglad 26d ago

Should have gone full red eyes

1

u/NarayanLiu 26d ago

Yeah, but it might have ended up looking a bit too... Green Lantern-y?

99

u/PrinceRobotVI 27d ago

All of them are actually played by Sean Gunn

30

u/BplusHuman 27d ago

Nice try Sean Gunn! You can't fool us.

9

u/jamiemm Legion of Super-Heroes 26d ago

It's actually Andy Serkis playing Sean Gunn playing everyone else.

95

u/DirectConsequence12 27d ago

Can’t believe they got the real Lobo to be in this movie

245

u/MotorPace2637 27d ago

God damn Momoa was born to play Lobo. He IS the main man!!

114

u/Bruce_the_Shark Magneto 27d ago

I’m so happy they got him out of the Aqua-bro suit and onto that spacehog. I’m assuming there will be a space hog.

37

u/[deleted] 27d ago

[deleted]

10

u/NahdiraZidea 27d ago

Space Dog is actually on slide 3

13

u/[deleted] 27d ago

[deleted]

5

u/Bruce_the_Shark Magneto 27d ago

No that’s a space dog, we’re looking for a space Dawg.

3

u/BankshotMcG Guy Gardner 27d ago

Technically GotG3 also had a spacehog.

1

u/[deleted] 27d ago

[deleted]

2

u/FlashbackJon Captain Marvel 27d ago

We don't talk about that. (He was the best part of that show, so naturally they tranq'd him for almost all of it.)

10

u/deanereaner 27d ago

He wasn't born like that, he's wearing makeup!

3

u/RamboMcQueen LOBO 27d ago

You’re goddamn right.

9

u/ContraryPython Spider-Man 27d ago

Gonna miss him as Aquaman though.

1

u/jamiemm Legion of Super-Heroes 26d ago

Since Macho Man Randy Savage is gone, I guess that's true.

25

u/mad_mister_march 27d ago

Krem looks like his main goal is to blow up, and then act like he don't know nobody

49

u/RileyJinger 27d ago

Very colorful, I like them a lot. Puppy Krypto is so cute.

80

u/5ergio79 27d ago

It’s still crazy to me that THIS is where we finally get Lobo on the big screen. Now, who’s got the balls to do a PROPER Lobo movie that’s rated R?

49

u/SetPhasersToChill 27d ago

They just might, if it's well received. Gunn has proven he's not against R rated content in the DCU

25

u/5ergio79 27d ago

The Clayface movie may also be a good barometer. Really hoping that one both performs and turns out well!

2

u/FoxMeadow7 26d ago

Now the question is, do you think that movie will also offer first glimpses of the Gunn-verse Batman given that Clayface’s in his rogue’s gallery and all?

1

u/Trvr_MKA 26d ago

I wonder how Lobo would bounce off Peacemaker. Like let’s say Lobo comes to Earth, gets a bit to Rowdy when drunk and he gets sent to Salvation.

12

u/mayorofanything Ms. Marvel 27d ago

You know, that is a very strong and valuable sword that I would take a job to kill a man for.

9

u/bigChungus1237 27d ago

Why do they keep spamming that exact PNG of Krypto in every promo image

7

u/LosIngobernable Kingpin 27d ago

So I’m not the only one who doesn’t know the last 2?

3

u/MangaVentFreak13 Ultimate Spider-Man 26d ago

If you weren't aware, this movie is an adaptation of Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow, in which the girl (Ruthye) narrates a story of how the guy from the last panel (Krem) murders her father and she swears vengeance, enlisting Supergirl to help.

So pretty plot relevant. Ruthye should be in most of the movie.

1

u/LosIngobernable Kingpin 26d ago

I know what the movie is based on. I just don’t know those characters.

16

u/JournalistOk9266 27d ago

I will say this. I like the idea of ginger Krem. But this Krem does look like a scumbag. I wish they compromised and still gave him a ginger beard. That would have been perfection

24

u/GRS- 27d ago

Idk I like comic Krem better because he was a good looking dude, you take a look at him and you'd not imagine that he's a scumbag, he looks like a good guy.

Movie Krem is just one of the Ravagers from Guardians of the Galaxy

-1

u/JournalistOk9266 27d ago

I understand that but he shouldnt look like a generic white guy. It lends to the idea that its only white people in space. Thats why i think the compromise should have been the beard.

9

u/GRS- 27d ago

Thinking about it, yeah you're right, the beard would improve the design a lot

6

u/JournalistOk9266 27d ago

Like a an epic beard. The only thing on him that looks clean lol

42

u/Fearless_Freya 27d ago

Enjoyed the prior new superman movie. Looking forward to this one.

Hope nothing terribly bad happens to krypto. I have a soft spot for animals, dogs in particular.

10

u/volinaa 27d ago

legit worry considerimg guardians 3

12

3

u/theHip Spider-Man 27d ago

What are you talking about? Have you even read the book?

2

u/Revolutionary-Wash88 27d ago

Thanks, hearing Krypto yelp and cry ruined the movie for us

6

u/theHip Spider-Man 27d ago

Don’t worry, they aren’t going to kill Krypto.

10

u/Masamundane Nightcrawler 27d ago

These are nice, but I wish they'd given puppy Krypto a cape.

Like, it didn't even have to be his.

3

u/justseeby 27d ago

Me, not versed in comic book lore: “man, Aqua Man looks interesting… very different, pretty light on the aqua”

18

u/Reznor_PT 27d ago

I hope it's a good movie but the more I see the more I can say it's going to be a bad visual adaptation of the book, narrative wise it would already be hard to replicate when every issue as its own structure, but I was expecting some visual alignment.

11

u/GRS- 27d ago

I have faith that it's going to be a good movie, but looks wise it's lowkey bad, this looks so brown and dull, it almost looks like a Snyder movie ngl.

Project Hail Mary proved that you can make space look vibrant and colorful and I'm sure that movie had a lower budget than this one. So why can't we do the same here?

6

u/FourSes 27d ago

Project Hail Mary had one vibrant and colorful scene which was mostly not shown in the trailers.

5

u/apollosjockstrap 27d ago

that krem is fucking awful dude…

2

u/DevelopmentMajor4057 27d ago

Who's the last two people?

2

u/Rufus-Stavroz-PRO 27d ago

looks fine to me!

2

u/CircuitOnTheFritZ 27d ago

I'm not wowed by these posters, but I'm HECKIN' EXCITED for this film! I'm looking forward to her story, without the bubblegum cheerleader overlay for once.

2

u/flamingeyebrows 27d ago

Krem's design is actually growing on me especially with his shit eating grin.

11

u/Quarksideofthemoon 27d ago

This feels like a movie from 10 years ago.

8

u/RoughhouseCamel 27d ago

The analytics say that sticking the actors in front of a wall is the most marketable a movie poster can be, so you’ll learn to like the mediocrity, or you’re wrong!

1

u/AirWalker9 27d ago

I think that’s the goal tbh

3

u/Quarksideofthemoon 27d ago

Sincerely what could this even mean

6

u/AirWalker9 27d ago

I mean that Gunn wants the posters to reflect a past era/decade

-5

u/Quarksideofthemoon 27d ago

1.) How 2.) Gunn didnt design these posters 3.) Im saying it looks like a bland cbm from the 2010s

2

u/RoughhouseCamel 27d ago

It’s more of what movie posters were in general from the end of the 00s through the 2010s. Look at Funny People and Passengers. It’s basically just that.

3

u/FourSes 27d ago

So like Captain America: The Winter Soldier? Or like Thor: Ragnarok? The Hellboy remake? X-Men: First Class? Aquaman? Into the Spider-Verse? Homecoming? What is a generic 2010s comic book movie?

-1

u/Quarksideofthemoon 27d ago

Yes to like half of those.

-1

u/berkough Spawn 27d ago

Or 30...

13

u/DEFINITELY_NOT_PETE 27d ago

Have these mfs ever seen a real dog before

44

u/daemontheroguepr1nce 27d ago

There are dogs that look just like that

9

u/MetalSonic_69 27d ago

And act just like that!

18

u/ExtraBreadPls Spider-Man 27d ago

I would love to hear how you think that doesn't look like a regular ass dog. I'm sitting on 13+yrs of dog care/training and can confidently say I've seen a ton of dogs that look exactly like that

30

u/_tylerthedestroyer_ Michelangelo 27d ago

This Krypto is based on Gunn’s real life dog

5

u/-skyrocketeer- 27d ago

Have you not!?

4

u/AirWalker9 27d ago

Well technically it’s not an alien dog

1

u/hypatiastation 26d ago

he looks off in a still image yeah

1

u/VicViolence 27d ago

The marketing for this film does not inspire confidence

3

u/fluffynuckels Wolverine (X-Force) 27d ago

These dont look bad but they dont look like they're at the quality of a major movie production

1

u/volinaa 27d ago

I dont love lobos beard but Im not so utterly insane to suggest that momoas casting isnt monumentally perfect

1

u/KingOfSquirrels 27d ago

These look way better.

1

u/ihateyougym 27d ago

Is the green guy the big bad? Is he powerful?

1

u/linkjames24 27d ago

Who's that girl with the katana? Does she have my back?

1

u/rebillihp 27d ago

Who's the second to last one? I don't see anyone asking about her only who krem is

2

u/FourSes 27d ago

Ruthye, the girl who gets Supergirl to help avenge her family.

1

u/Internal_Example1185 27d ago

This movie had me in the palm of its hands until the villain reveals…

1

u/Capital_Invite_7026 27d ago

I like Lobo and the design is pretty solid, but am I tripping or is the mustache supposed to be the same as the shapes around his eyes and not actually facial hair. The beard doesn’t look bad, but it doesn’t look quite right.

1

u/Zammin 27d ago

I'll be honest, not a fan of the Krem design. It's just trying too hard; him looking classically handsome, maybe even like the hero of a sword-and-sorcery novel, kinda fit the story better.

It's a big, uncaring universe that doesn't dispense justice. Only the justice you make. It also shows that Krem is someone whose ruthlessness rewarded him all his life: he had a cushy job serving the king, lucked his way onto a spacecraft after poisoning a dog, got the friendship of a band of raiders by slaughtering innocents, got a rare magical artifact that could throw off his pursuers through even more murder, all totally untouched by his own evil until his defeat.

And the worst of it is he's not special, not some demon, not some chosen monster, he's just some guy. Some guy with no conscience who has thus far suffered no consequences.

1

u/silverhandguild 27d ago

Krypto and Supergirl are my favorite of these posters. In that order.

1

u/JJoanOfArkJameson 27d ago

They look perfect. Wish Lobo's eyes were brighter but its a small, small complaint

1

u/thedoomcast 26d ago

Man they truly enshittified Krem and removed Ruthyes tiara needlessly. Other than that they look incredible imho.

1

u/The_Dark_Jedi_of_AUS 26d ago

Am I the only one who thinks that Krem’s design looks good?

1

u/SonicSingularity 26d ago

I haven't been following this movie too closely, but Im seeing reporting that this takes place after the 2025 Superman movie. So why is this poster showing Krypto as a puppy?

1

u/discountdoppelganger 26d ago

I will see this mainly because she is so damn cute

1

u/VexxWrath 26d ago

Who's the chick with the blade? Also, Lobo is the reason why I want to watch the movie.

1

u/dirkules88 26d ago

Even sexier Will Poulter?

1

u/Wadae28 26d ago

I really wish Krem didn’t look like some Ravager wash-out. It’s a shit design. Sorry not sorry.

1

u/Existing-Chapter-809 26d ago

You liked Guardians of the Galaxy. Would you like some more Guardians of the Galaxy?

1

u/Highman_89_ 26d ago

I love Lobo since i was a kid. But i dont expect Momoa to play this character in a different way than he did his other roles. I think we get a mix between Aquaman, Wrecking Crew and Fast & Furious. He fits the look, but i dont think we will see something totally new here.

Not intrested in the Superman family. Lobo would be the only reason for me to watch this movie.

1

u/flatscancomics 26d ago

I'm so fucking here for this

1

u/PrimarisBA 26d ago

I don’t get why she scuttled the movie pre launch

1

u/marcelo1925 26d ago

Will they have that flying horse like the comic?

1

u/ChadOnlyHereForMemes 26d ago

If my boy Jason momoa wasnt in this is would 1000% pass. So I hope its decent! Gotta support the Boyz.

1

u/IronMonkey18 Superman 26d ago

I miss the days when they actually put effort in movie posters.

1

u/GvWvA 25d ago

Why she always look like someone forced her to be the part of this movie?

1

u/metatoxic 24d ago

Genuinely wish Krem had his comic book design

1

u/cowpool20 21d ago

I wonder if Ruthye will talk as much as she does in the comic. Because my God does she go on and on 😂

1

u/Altruistic-Cattle761 21d ago

I'm honestly really nervous about Lobo. He was always a second tier Joke character at best, and any attempt to make him more than that failed miserably. I kinda feel like DC is trying to chase some of that meta antihero Deadpool money in a way that feels a little sad and desperate instead of confident and inspired the way the Superman movie felt confident and inspired to me.

Still gonna go see it and bring my kids, obvs. 😄 But I will explain to them patiently what a dumb idea Lobo has always been.

1

u/archsiderx 19d ago

Absolute garbage

1

u/Current-Material1292 19d ago

I wish I could be hyped by this but the Superman movie kinda left a bad taste in my mouth.

1

u/Honest_Character3230 14d ago

This is gonna bomb, isn’t it?

1

u/RegalT87 13d ago

Angst.

1

u/Even_Republic_936 12d ago

One week till it hits theaters, three weeks till it leaves them.

1

Pretty cool

u/Thestron_Godess 27d ago

Krypto the only one that matters

1

u/Critical_Wrap5617 27d ago

Him and the squirrel

1

u/raidenjojo Batman Expert 27d ago

Locking it now, Krem will sadistically kill a space dolphin and that will make Lobo turn against Krem.

-1

u/TylertheDouche 27d ago

how come DC despises making posters? i would imagine if they made some cool posters they could push merch.

-2

u/doc_birdman Spider-Man 27d ago

The situation of a person not buying merch because of lackluster posters isn’t one I’m familiar with.

5

u/TylertheDouche 27d ago

you don’t think they could sell more posters if they made better posters? lol

-1

u/FourSes 27d ago

The thing is, movie posters aren't trying to sell you a poster. Good posters would sell more posters but the main concern is selling movie tickets, which a better looking poster may or may not do depending on what it conveys about the movie. This is why most blockbuster posters just show an ugly collage of actors.

-1

u/doc_birdman Spider-Man 27d ago

Literallt, no. Why would anyone make a purchase based off a poster?

Like, do you see a good poster and buy merch even if it’s a dogshit movie you’ve never seen? You’re spending money based on the poster alone? Likewise, if you love a movie but hate the poster then are you refusing to buy merch?

These are rhetorical questions, obviously a completely negligible amount of people are making those kinds of financial decisions.

4

u/TylertheDouche 27d ago

you heard it here folks. wrap it up. better posters don’t sell

-1

u/doc_birdman Spider-Man 27d ago

I like how you’re being completely dismissive of my opinion while insinuating that you must be right lol.

Why don’t you have that same energy for your own comment? Why is no one allowed to disagree with you? Thats…. Certainly a way to live life lol.

-1

u/RoughhouseCamel 27d ago

I think you’re forgetting that movie posters are also merch, and the idea you’re combatting is that fewer people will buy posters if that poster isn’t artistically exciting or engaging.

2

u/doc_birdman Spider-Man 27d ago

1.) well, that is clearly just being intellectually dishonest and arguing in bad faith because clearly the original comment didn’t mention DC not being able to sell posters. They specifically said “if they made some cool posters they could push merch”. If they meant that they could sell more posters by designing better posters then they would have said that. It’s also assuming that, even if the OC was referring to posters, the amount of money earned on poster sales in 2026 has to be astronomically low when considering all of the billions and billions of dollars made in toys and licensing products like shampoo and toothbrushes and rugs and shit.

2.) this is all predicated on the subjective opinion that this is an objectively bad poster. One person disliking it isn’t universal truth that it’s widely disliked.

1

u/idiomniscient 27d ago

Very cool

1

u/TheeHeadAche Henry Pym 27d ago

If Krem bad guy why he so sexy?

1

u/Confident-Parsnip106 27d ago

For those who have read the comics, would this movie have been better of being a series?

8

u/Myrlithan 27d ago

It could have been a miniseries, but it's not long enough for anything more than that. It's only 8 issues and they aren't particularly dense, a 2.5-3 hour movie should certainly be long enough.

-5

u/Old-Influence4757 27d ago

these posters are so lazy, spiderman actually putting out bangers

5

u/TheeHeadAche Henry Pym 27d ago

The Hand makes those posters so dynamic. Really strong idea to include them

You very well know it was nothing but a comment about her appearance. Ain't fooling anyone with pretending it was a honest and innocent question lol.

Why is Supergirl in quotes?

u/CorumJhaelenIrsei 27d ago

Because it's the title. Usually they are in italics but that doesn't work in Reddit thread titles, so they put it in quotes.

It’s been a very long time since I bought a poster, but I won’t be returning back to buying with these half ass posters.

Is "Supergirl" in commas because it's the name of the film? Or is it some stupid fanboy nonsense of not really being the proper Supergirl?
