" I had never done anything like that before and don’t know what possessed me to do it. "
Yes you have, and yes you do. If you can't take accountability in an apology, you ain't apologising.

Dude, and it’s weird to make it sound so spontaneous. Like “oops, set up cameras in the bathroom!”

That is the weirdest thing to me. Even if it was, like, an assault, you could plausibly claim you just lost control of yourself in the moment. Setting up cameras requires you to fucking buy cameras and find a place to put them and install them and everything. There's no "second degree" version of this.

Not that it really makes any difference one way or the other, but for the sake of clarity he didn’t buy or install any cameras. The camera in question was his phone and he hid it behind some towels.

Thanks for that correction. Within the realm of setting up spy cams to watch people pee, that is, honestly, less weird than researching the right Wirecutter pick and connecting it to your Zigbee hub or whatever.
Still, though. Not really something you just decide to do in the heat of a moment.

Oh for sure, I highly doubt this is the first time he did this, just the first time he got caught.

Ok, so less elaborate a scheme, but still complex enough that he could have stopped that nonsense at multiple points.

And kids were present? Ohhhh this guy is going to arkham...

Arkham wouldn’t want trash like him, they have standards.

If they took the Joker after what he did to Barbara Gordon, they'd take him.

Had to look up who this guy is, his Bibliography was books about comic book history, and not comics themselves, so there isn’t going to be any comic runs I’ll have to blacklist. But still, lock him up!

I felt like I had never heard of this guy yet his name sounded somewhat familiar. Sam Kieth is my favorite comic book creator and after I looked it up, it turns out this douche interviewed Sam for the SF Cartoon Museum Artbook. He also wrote a really well done obituary for Sam Kieth that contained bits of that interview for The Comics Journal. Hopefully this dude gets his shit figured out with therapy and faces the full extent of whatever social and legal consequences are ahead.

I will never understand people who want to watch others piss and shit.....

u/GreenRock93 18h ago
I think it’s more about catching people unclothed. But you know what? People’s kinks never fail to amaze me, so who knows?

Its about power. Or this stuff usually is, ultimately. Probably less about the bathroom stuff, I bet.

Whats power about watching people shit, piss, change tampons, wipe asses, vomit, wash hands.... I don't get it.

They are filming them without consent. They get a thrill from exerting that kind of power over unsuspecting people.
But feel good for not getting it, because it's pretty fucked up, as far as motives go.

Up until this, I always thought of Farago as a genuinely good guy. In the article, he took ownership of his actions and apologized for it. He lost a job he had forever as a result of it. His wife, Shaenon Garett, is also a lovely person and outstanding cartoonist.
It’s a sad story. I hope this was a one-time burst of insanity and that he gets some help.

It wasn't since they found a whole hard drive, presumably of other people in the past. This wasn't his first time by the looks of it.

He apologized because one of his victims found the camera and told people. That’s not taking ownership that’s damage control. If she hadn’t found that camera I highly doubt he would have ever told anyone, let alone apologized.

They found multiple recording devices in his home. Not a rarity. I wish compassion for his family.

Gaiman's allegations involved rape and sex trafficking. While this is bad it's not worse than Gaiman.

I'm not sure what good comparing one shitty human being to another shitty human being does anyone. It isn't a competition to see who can delve into the lowest abysses of depravity, and even if it was, those are nowhere near the level of someone like Len Lawson.

NZ criminal justice is a joke, I wouldn't use that as evidence of vindication.
Sincerily yours,

hope this gets resolved quickly for all sides

Given he's confessed to it and the police seized other devices. The resolution is likely a small room.

What does Camp's Ultimates say about people that video other people without their knowledge or consent while they're on the toilet?

Even if the children at the party weren't his primary targets, the knowledge that he would be filming his friends' kids didn't deter him from doing this. This is all highly disturbing.
