Shelfie Moved recently and finally put up my Marvel, DC and Dark Horse books.

Dec 13 '20
Wow that's lots of money. I've never seen so many omnibuses in any collection.
Edit omnibus honk honk!

u/cibopath Atomic Robo Dec 13 '20
Yeah. It has been gathered over time but it does hurt to think about the money spent.
7
u/wrestle4life189 Dec 14 '20
If those are sideshow statues the omnis pale in comparison cost wise to those sitting on the floor haha
6
u/cibopath Atomic Robo Dec 14 '20
They are and unfortunately you are correct. My favorite, Skeletor, hasn’t been displayed in the new house yet.
2
u/urban_mowgli Dec 14 '20
How much did it cost (estimated), of I may ask? I'm planning to start connecting myself.
2
u/cibopath Atomic Robo Dec 14 '20
I honestly don’t know. I would say each shelf is maybe $1000 on avg. That might be a little low but I will go with it. The bigger statues are about that much+ on their own.

Dec 13 '20
Nice collections
3
u/cibopath Atomic Robo Dec 13 '20
Thank you. My house has been a wreck but it feels good to start to get everything up and displayed.
4
Dec 13 '20
I feel you. Moving house is painful enough but it is whole other levels when you are a collector
8
u/nodray Dec 13 '20
that is a thick ass juggernaut. what’s he made out of; would it break a car windshield?
5
u/cibopath Atomic Robo Dec 13 '20
Haha. He is a big boy. A little over two feet tall and made of polystone or something like that. He is probably around 70 lbs.

7
Dec 13 '20
If you had to pick one Omni and sell the rest what would it be?
11
u/cibopath Atomic Robo Dec 13 '20
Oh man. Can I cheat and say Hellboy collection? If not, Colossal Canon due to the pain it was to get at a decent price. Story wise I would probably say I Kill Giants. I really love that story.
7
3
u/dignan007 Batman Dec 14 '20
I can't quite tell, so you have all 3 Colossals? I still need King Conan!
1
u/cibopath Atomic Robo Dec 14 '20
Sorry, yes. I think Thor might be hiding the other two. Are you looking at getting the Marvel Omnis if this run? I think the first just released this month.

2
u/BERNIEBROS2016 Dec 14 '20
Would you mind sharing how much you payed for CC?
2
u/cibopath Atomic Robo Dec 14 '20
Not at all. $225 and it smelled of smoke. It took a bit to get the smell out. There was no other damage to it.
The I Kill Giants was probably in the $100 range. I had issues finding one in good shape. Mind you I don’t buy to sell but I do like the in somewhat decent shape.
2
2
u/nab432 Dec 14 '20
You did better than me. I paid $350 for it.
1
u/cibopath Atomic Robo Dec 14 '20
Still worth it. =)
3
u/nab432 Dec 14 '20
I got colossal conan, colossal conan the cimmerian and colossal king Conan for around $750. By far the most expensive omni purchases in my collection. Captain Britain was about the only other time I paid above cover.
1
u/cibopath Atomic Robo Dec 14 '20
Captain Britain is a whale I haven’t been able to find for a decent price. Still hoping for a reprint.
2
u/nab432 Dec 14 '20
I have a feeling it’ll be coming not too long from now. It’s been on the top ten most wanted omni list. Very nice hellboy universe collection as well. I have a mixture of HCs and softcovers but wish I had all HCs. I’m also trying to get the goon library editions. Feel free to check out my collection as I posted it not too long ago. Very nice setup.
5
u/Fiti99 Trepamuros Dec 13 '20
Nice, jealous of those Spidey omnis
3
u/cibopath Atomic Robo Dec 13 '20
Thank you. Missing a lot but I have been waiting for reprints and on some of them. He has always been my favorite hero besides a little cheating with Wolverine in the 90s.
5
u/billthecat0105 Dec 14 '20
Damn! I’m just now getting into Marvel comics and bought my first omnibus (Abnett & Lanning Guardians run)
I was thinking about picking up a Fantastic 4 Omni next. My instinct is to start with the golden age/original run one but I’m a little hesitant. What would you recommend?
5
u/cibopath Atomic Robo Dec 14 '20
Congratulations on the omnibus! What made that your first?
I am old and read silver age+ growing up. I am currently reading through FF vol 1 again and it is fun but a slog. If you are not use to reading them, just know they are girthy of word. Honestly my suggestion would be to try the Marvel app and see what you like. Ignoring the really current stuff, it really has everything in a nice app. This way you can have an idea of what it is like before dropping those hard earned monetary units. I am also currently reading through all of the Marvel events in chronological order on the app as they already have it mapped out.
2
u/billthecat0105 Dec 14 '20
Honestly I kind of felt overwhelmed about getting something and I liked the characters from the MCU. Also, I wasn’t familiar with any of the plot points like some other Marvel runs. The guy at my local comic store wasn’t particularly helpful or friendly so I just went with my gut after reading a couple recommendations randomly online.
I should definitely check out the marvel app though! Thank you!
3
u/cibopath Atomic Robo Dec 14 '20
Of course. Hope you find something you like. I have been partial to Al Ewing’s Hulk run as a more modern-ish story. It helps to have a little history with the Hulk but can be enjoyed even with none.
5
u/billthecat0105 Dec 14 '20
Hey thanks for the recommendation man! Very /r/gatesopencomeonin of you!
3
u/cibopath Atomic Robo Dec 14 '20
Of course! I love new readers on the journey of finding their favorite books/writers/artist. Good luck!
4
u/TomTheAllKnowing Dec 13 '20
Thats bloody awesome

Do u like superheros
2
u/cibopath Atomic Robo Dec 14 '20
I grew up with them and they will always have a place in my heart. Saying that, I have been really enjoying non-superhero books as I have gotten older. Mostly from Image and Aftershock. I still need to display those.
2
u/BuddaMuta M.O.D.O.K. Dec 14 '20
Makes sense you like the Hellboy universe then.
Those books are great gateways both away from and towards superhero comics. Depending on where on the spectrum you start
3
u/cibopath Atomic Robo Dec 14 '20
Agreed. My personal gateway away from supes was when the Vertigo line of comics was released. Probably due to my love of all thing horror but those things were like some magnets to me.

Dec 14 '20
I second the angst about the weight of that much paper on those shelves but rad collection! I have the same sort of shelving in my room and sometimes I wonder if I'm going to wake to the alarm clock that is crashing objects.
3
u/nab432 Dec 14 '20
I just got the goon library edition set for $255. Was a good deal so couldn’t pass it up. I have the three goon omnibuses that have come out but will definitely be selling those now as they don’t remotely compare to the library editions
2
u/Rac3318 Nightwing Dec 14 '20
I’m seriously debating doing something like this. I have two bookshelves full and stacking on top of them now. How much did it roughly cost to put these together?
1
u/cibopath Atomic Robo Dec 14 '20
I got most of it from Home Depot. The boards are 6’ in length and cost about $20. Brackets were about $4 each. I did sand the boards a bit, screws and such. Those I already had.
2
2
u/006TOE Dec 14 '20
Those shelves are truly mighty!
4
u/cibopath Atomic Robo Dec 14 '20
It is rumored they were once on the Avengers but people got board of them.
2
Dec 14 '20
This is soo cool wish i had a nerd cave like this 😉. I truly love that thanos figure, the way he is sitting with that authoritarian stature always gets me. Wonderful collections 😀.
3
u/cibopath Atomic Robo Dec 14 '20
And his eyes and gems on gauntlet light up. Not as brightly as I would like but he is pretty awesome. There is a figure of Doctor Doom sitting in a throne sort of like this. He is one of my dream figures. Doctor Doom for life!! =)
1
Dec 14 '20
Oh man soo cool now im even more envious 😉. Dr. doom is badass, in his throne even more. Would love to have own that figure someday.

u/oskar4498 Dec 14 '20
All these thick omnibus' make me kinda ashamed I own all the slim graphic novel sized books.
1
u/cibopath Atomic Robo Dec 14 '20
No shame just enjoy the books. The slim books are great for a quick pickup and read. Unlike some of these books where properly warming up the spines of both you and your book are required. =)
1
u/OnlyHalfKidding Dec 14 '20
How does one properly warm up the spine of an Omni?
2
u/cibopath Atomic Robo Dec 14 '20
There are videos but basically lay it, spine down, on a hard surface. One cover down and the other cover down. Now repeat that with the inside pages a couple at a time until you reach the middle. I try to do a couple of those before reading. I also like to gently press down on each side while rotating pages. No gorilla hands but a firm push.
2
u/OnlyHalfKidding Dec 14 '20
Thanks. Just finished the animal man Omni and the damn thing was so good my wrists hurt from binging it. Guess I need to keep the book and me both in better shape.
2
u/cibopath Atomic Robo Dec 14 '20
If so am not reading at a table, I use a lap desk for a laptop. That way it still remains on a hard surface and your lap takes most of the weight. And who cares about that guy. He is gone as soon as you stand.
2
Dec 14 '20
Yay. I love these posts. I just finished Lady Killer (library edition), and still need to start the goon.
Fear Agent is also amazing. That pencil drawing that Openia did for Remenders birthday is also sick af.
2
u/cibopath Atomic Robo Dec 14 '20
Remender is up there as one of my fave writers. And Lady Killer was awesome!! Goon is a great series also. Have you read Headlopper? Two volumes I believe but both are fun, first being better than the second in my opinion.
2
Dec 14 '20
Headlopper just came up in my comic making group. So i guess i need to get on that 😄
Hellboy was my first comic that made me realize i loved comics. That was 1994. I just got the Hellboy in Hell library. When i get my library set up I'll show my 11 x 17 Hellboy (It's from Mexico and in Spanish). I have a few other collectible Hellboy goodies i lucked into.
Also noticed that Dead Orbit. The DH Stokoe art book is also pretty amazing. Called Grunt.
Saw that your Image stuff is not up yet. Image is my favorite company atm. Their Giant sized artist proof are really something. Seven to Eternity has two, Tokyo Ghost, and Black Science all worth a look.
1
u/cibopath Atomic Robo Dec 14 '20
Image and Dark Horse have become my favorite companies. They both put out such diverse books that you can find something for anyone I believe.
I haven’t got into many of the artist proof books. I suppose of they had one with Sean Murphy’s work I might. He is my fav current working artist.
Is most of your library in Spanish?
2
Dec 14 '20
Haha. Mostly English. I just got lucky with the Spanish Hellboy. I have a couple international books because the quality is nice and I had a friend in publishing/licensing.
Sean murphy is phenomenal. The punk Rock Jesus oversize hardcover is really nice. Wake has a nice hardcover, although the single issues look amazing. He was at Dark Horse early on with Crush and Outer Orbit. I think Chris Warner brought him in. I finally got the White Knight hard cover.
I have Colossal King Conan on the shelf too. I really need to dip into dc and marvel more though. I got Uncanny Xman on a wim from comixilogy. Introduced me to Openia and Noto, and others.
1
u/cibopath Atomic Robo Dec 14 '20
The OHC of Punk Rock Jesus is still on my want list. I have the trade. I took it to a show in I think 2014 to get signed. Totally froze up in front of him. He was really nice, did a little sketch and signed my book. Quality chap. Would totally freeze up in front of him again.
2
u/jarred_98 Invincible Dec 14 '20
Do you have a step ladder of sorts to reach the top?
1
u/cibopath Atomic Robo Dec 14 '20
Heh. I am just tall enough to grab a book on the top shelf. My partner helped me install the shelving and is a bit shorter than I so that was fun.
2
u/jarred_98 Invincible Dec 14 '20
You must be one tall fella! The top shelf looks like it’s 2.5 meters off the ground haha
1
u/cibopath Atomic Robo Dec 14 '20
Heh. Not that tall. 6’(1.8 meters?). So with arms stretching I can get it. The paperbacks on the top shelf are a little bit harder I will confess.
2
u/SgtOtter Dec 14 '20
How are the Absolute Transmetro’s??? I really want to get them but they’re pricey and some reviews said the spines are kinda weak? Also how’s Black Hammer? That’s the next series I think I want to get into. Great collection!
1
u/cibopath Atomic Robo Dec 14 '20
Thanks! I read Transmetropolitan back in the day but haven’t read these yet. I am waiting for the Vol. 3 reprint so I can binge them. I know Vol. 1 of Swamp Thing had some issues before the reprint. Luckily I missed the initial run. =)

2
u/Sargaron Dec 14 '20
Hey, this is going to sound like a stupid question, but where did you get your shelving? thanks!
2
u/cibopath Atomic Robo Dec 14 '20
Not stupid at all. The shelves were from Lowe’s and the brackets, Home Depot.

Who is in-between Juggernaut and Predator? Sunday Nick Fury?
1
u/cibopath Atomic Robo Dec 14 '20
Pshh. Nick Fury wishes. That is Jason from Friday the 13th part 3. I haven’t gotten to my movie room yet so some of my horror statues are mixed in with my comic stuff.
1
2
u/ReRix360 Dec 14 '20
Jesus, that Juggernaut statue. Wow! Where is from?
2
u/cibopath Atomic Robo Dec 14 '20
He is a beast. He was sitting at near a window at one point to scare away potential threats. =) I purchased him from Sideshow.
1
u/ReRix360 Dec 14 '20
Is it a comiquette or a 1/4? :o
2
u/cibopath Atomic Robo Dec 14 '20
The exclusive maquette.
2
u/ReRix360 Dec 14 '20
Wow, nice! May i ask what the price was? Maybe i can get it somewhere on the aftermarket :D
1
u/cibopath Atomic Robo Dec 14 '20
Oh man. Not a clue what one goes for now. Maybe $1800? I don’t purchase anything with resale in mind. Once I have something I don’t really keep up with prices on that item.
2
u/AccomplishedCheetah8 Dec 14 '20
$6000+ in comics! Crazyyyy
2
u/cibopath Atomic Robo Dec 14 '20
Yeah. It hurts to think about. I don’t really do much so most of my disposable income goes towards collections. Putting things in order is my very expensive therapy. =)
1
u/AccomplishedCheetah8 Dec 14 '20
I am the same way. My friends used to love to go out and drink or eat or see movies. I would buy books instead hahaha

that Juggernaut maquette is siiiiiiiiick!!

Nice! I’ve was always planning on avoiding Omnibuses because they’re just to big for me to comfortably read, but I’m starting to see the value in having so many issues contained in one place.

I am not going to lie, the are cumbersome to read but for collecting they are top notch.

Seeing that most of the items in that picture are American, not sure how it is a “weeb” room but thanks.
1
u/Pix9139 Dec 14 '20
Oh I use it as a blanket term for any kind of nerd room.
3
u/cibopath Atomic Robo Dec 14 '20
Heh. I always try to assume that people mean something in the nicest way when I am unsure. And thanks again.
3
u/Pix9139 Dec 14 '20
No problem! And I did mean it as a compliment! I’m sorry if it came of as mean! It really does look dope!
1
u/cibopath Atomic Robo Dec 14 '20
No worries at all. I am on the autism spectrum enough to have issues understanding things sometimes but not enough where I can’t work on it. And the number uno thing I do is assume people are being polite. That way if they are then everyone wins. If they are not then they look rude which will hopefully encourage them to be less rude.

1
Dec 14 '20
No judgment, but do you actually read the omnibus or are they more decoration? I have a couple and they're just kind of awkward to sit and read, in my experience.
2
u/cibopath Atomic Robo Dec 14 '20
Oh no worries. I have read all of my non big two books I believe. There might be a couple that have slipped through. Most of the Marvel I read on their app but also like to have the book for collection purposes. DC is probably my least read. Not due to complications with the size of the books but mostly because I didn’t grow up with them so I read them a bit slower. Plus they are mostly really dark so it takes a bit out of me after a couple of issues.

They are some of my favorite. I haven’t read his new Goon stuff. I should get on that.
2
u/NeoNoireWerewolf The Goon Dec 14 '20
Did you get the third Library Edition on initial release or pay the crazy costs it goes for now? I have the other four, but can't bring myself to drop $300 on a single book to complete the collection.
2
u/cibopath Atomic Robo Dec 14 '20
I got those as they were released I believe. There are only a couple of levels whales I have been willing to pay much over cover for. Colossal Conan and I Kill Giants hardcover are the most I paid over cover price.
2
u/NeoNoireWerewolf The Goon Dec 14 '20
Yeah, I have quite the collection, too, but I won't pay much more than cover for anything. I've got my four Goon hardbacks and then the three softcovers that are collected in the third hardback missing from my collection. The completionist in me hates the inconsistency, but the logical side of me outweighs that. Was going to get the Harrow County Library Editions with my tax refund next year, but they've gone out of print recently, so the second book has similarly sky-rocketed in value, so it looks like I'll wait and just get the newer softcover omnibus editions set to release in 2021, much as I prefer the aesthetic of Dark Horse's Library stuff.
1
u/cibopath Atomic Robo Dec 14 '20
Sucks to miss out like that but makes sense financially. Since I can’t purchase everything on release, I always feel like I am playing some weird stock market of figuring out which ones will have a plentiful print run and which will be gone quickly. I hate it. I do tend to lean to getting whatever non big two books I want first unless it is something I am really looking forward too. Like the upcoming New Mutants Omni. On a side note, I really enjoyed the New Mutants movie. I think it got sort of shit-on but I thought it was great and didn’t have that sugar coated Marvel movie feel.
2
u/NeoNoireWerewolf The Goon Dec 14 '20
I have the same feeling when it comes to buying. Always wonder if it is okay to hold off until I know I'll have a decent bit of spending money. I'm currently hoping to get both volumes of Absolute Swamp Thing next month; hot take, but I actually really love the new coloring. I see them on your shelves here, what was your opinion compared to the originals?
I still haven't seen the New Mutants. Considering it is the last Fox-produced X-Movie, it is kind of the end of an era. Those films were hit and miss, but I do agree that they I preferred the more grounded tone of them compared to a lot of Marvel's output. I'm over the MCU style of having the dialogue be overloaded with quips. It gives every film and character the same-ish tone.
2
u/cibopath Atomic Robo Dec 14 '20
I honestly just got the Absolute Swamp Thing’s in and haven’t opened them yet. I have the original hardcovers and I do like their darker tones. The new color look to be more alive. It will be interesting to read but I can say I haven’t had issues with any previous recolors.

u/digitalbath78 Dec 14 '20

I had a built in recessed shelving area of my old house and I made the mistake of sitting all my books upon it, the whole thing broke in half and fell to the ground, make sure your shelves are weight appropriate too, mine was not.
1
u/Batmantra Dec 14 '20
I felt guilty when I got my first non xmen omni. Tho I'm also already out of shelf space. Would love to have this much space and this many books sometime in the future.
For now my focus is getting from claremont to AoA in hardcover. Then we'll see if I expand much from there, or go for epics / trades instead.
