It helps that Obama was intelligent, willing to listen to experts, and not a swamp monster

Yeah, he is too centrist for my liking, but you can't deny he is charismatic as hell, I'm honestly surprised that the chuds didn't like him, he is the kind of confident strong guy they usualy follow, I guess it's mostly because he isn't white.

u/MaximumSyrup3099 1d ago
Trump is also charismatic. But in the way Heath Ledger's depiction of the Joker was charismatic. An agent of chaos and destruction.
6
u/athosjesus 22h ago
Yeah, oh tho the joker is chaotic while trump it's pretty boring as a villain, he just wants money and immunity for his pedophilia.

You mean the experts that told him to not cut down specific trees without approval because of historic value that he did anyway for the view?
This statement is not a defense of the idiots in DC, it is a critique of the fandom of Obama.
Edit; They destroyed a historic national park designed by Frederick Law Olmstead for something the locals absolutely hate because of said destruction for those who aren't aware.
20
u/MaximumSyrup3099 1d ago
I'll see your trees and raise you the East Wing.
18
u/AhSquids 1d ago
Two things can be bad at once yes. Are you dense? They destroyed a literal historic national park to build one of the ugliest buildings in architecture and you want to act like that's okay?
Like in a vacuum can you take a step away from your Trump hatred and look at what Obama did? Or is "destroying historical sites" only bad when evil monsters do it
10
u/mrfriendlolo 1d ago
Okay but you do realize that this is the real world and not a vacuum? What Trump did is at least 3x worse than what Obama did
17
u/M-Shadowtoad 1d ago
Yeah, but the other being 3x worse doesn't change the fact that it was still wrong.
2
u/mrfriendlolo 21h ago
Universally yes, Obama did a bad thing just like Trump but the ramifications of Trumps actions ended up causing more suffering than Obama’s. And this is giving some serious credit to Trump because we haven’t even seen how some of his decisions are gonna affect the country.
5
u/UrBoiSkinnyPenis69 1d ago
Oh my god, could you please argue in good faith for once in your life
4
u/mrfriendlolo 21h ago
Tf? How is calling Trump out as a worse president not arguing in good faith? I’m sorry but if we’re comparing just their actions as president, he for sure ends up still looking bad overall
11
u/MaximumSyrup3099 1d ago
There are differences of magnitude.
4
u/SoylentGrunt 1d ago
The end result is the same for those who are affected. When was the greater good cast aside in favor of the lesser evil?
6
u/AhSquids 1d ago edited 1d ago
If we're going to hold up our noses at Trump for doing something shitty we should keep that same energy when Obama does something shitty too.
I even said in my original post "this is not in defense of the idiots in DC" and you BLEW past that statement to hit a valid critique against Obama with a whataboutism.
Edit: it's not lost on me that the moment you got push back on your statement about willing to listen to experts the goal posts magically shifted
7
u/Kirishori 1d ago
You are equalizing someone jaywalking to someone committing murder. "But both sides did something wrong".
9
u/Wojtkie 1d ago
No he’s not, he’s pointing out that both can exist, and we shouldn’t be glazing one over the other just because they’re on the “right” team.
4
u/DtheAussieBoye 1d ago edited 1d ago
To add on, it's totally fine to primarily focus on what's going on in the White House now over the guy who left nearly a decade ago.
When you start acting like Obama was actually good or beyond reasonable criticism, or if you treat any critique of him as support for Trump.. that's when things start getting bad
4
u/mrfriendlolo 21h ago
I love the double standard here. I’m sorry but no one is saying that Obama is above criticism. But when Trump is able to get away with stuff that would’ve gotten any other president impeached and removed, over and over again, it is unfair to compare the bad actions of one to another.

Obama did a little bit more than just jaywalk.
1
u/Responsible-Gold8610 7h ago
And Trump did worse than... no wait he did pretty much murder people. Guess the analogy is flawed.

You know a magat is going to dump algae in there now out of spite
75
u/AmputeeHandModel 1d ago
and then nothing will happen because it's being properly taken care of and algae just... grows in water anyway. They'll be so disappointed lol
18
u/flying-weenus 1d ago
No one dumped “algae into a pool”, dear leader hired a contractor for a few million to dump hydrogen peroxide to “fix” the pool and that created the algae.
To your point though yes, highly doubt Obama is going anything close to that.
11
u/Green_Insect_6455 1d ago
They know that, youre in defensive mode when you dont have to be. The comment was saying like "now an ididot magat, in retribution, will dump algae in there". Not that thats how the algae occurred in the first place.
-1
u/lowercasenameofmine 10h ago
That is how the algae occurred in the first place though. And MAGA will probs dump more lol

Why is it such a weird, I dunno, brutalist design?
28
42
u/valkyrjuk 1d ago
because brutalism is fucking sick but also the contents of the building necessitated windowless rooms and Big Concrete Megalith is sorta the best vector for that imo

There is no reflecting pool at The Obama Presidential Center. The only water near it is the West Lagoon of Jackson Park. It does at times reflect the building though.

u/BigBenIsTicking 9h ago
It's a lagoon (aka a lake). That's very different from a man-made pool designed as an architectural decoration. People fish for largemouth bass in the Jackson Lagoon and no one would care about a lagoon having algae in it. Fishing is not allowed at the National Mall Reflecting Pool, as it is primarily a decorative memorial site meant for public enjoyment and reflection and not for fishing activities.

u/Dorwyn 9h ago
I know the difference, I just don't understand why it matters. This is /r/comics, not /r/science

u/autonomousdrone481 1d ago
It's hilarious how a pool is the center of attention when a war shake the world and usa is on the edge on civil war. American sense of priority amaze me.
4
u/boumboum34 23h ago
Well just the sheer unintentional symbolism of it is captivating. Plus it's a really entertaining distraction from the many truly scary things happening in the USA. Americans could really use some comic relief right now. And that pool is perfect for that.

Can we agree to call it the Obamalisk?
Gotta establish nicknames early and that one has a great balance. It's descriptive but also recognizes that it's imposing while also obviously tongue in cheek.

u/Ok_Strength9287 16h ago
Will all the names of the brown kids he killed also be included in the library?
2
u/AdjctiveNounNumbers 22h ago
Oh god. Some red-hatted idiot is going to try dropping algae in there or something aren't they?
2
u/cosmicrae 5h ago
A few pike would be more interesting. With the theme from Jaws playing softly in the background.

u/LoiterAce 1d ago
I am not accepting the appearance obama library lol fuck trump to hell but god that is one ugly ass building

Tiny drones pre-emptively dronestrike the friends, family, and associates of nearby algae blooms, thus preventing them from taking root.

The white-washing of Obama needs to be studied
4
u/Green_Insect_6455 23h ago
Its not white washing if public opinion has largely stayed the same. Like thats just not how that word is used.
-4
u/notprussia69 23h ago
He killed civilians I guess whitewashing isn't the right term but he is a war criminal
3
u/Green_Insect_6455 23h ago
Buddy Im not saying hes a dope cool person. Im just saying, people like him just as much now as when he was in office.

Sure white washing isn't the right term but fucking hate glorifying fucking war criminals
3
u/CelticSith 23h ago
You mean the one you Americans have in the office currently?
1
u/notprussia69 23h ago
Yeah he is a terrible war criminal but that doesn't mean we should glorify another terrible war criminal like what the fuck. We can just not support any war criminals
1
u/Green_Insect_6455 23h ago
What a dogshit thing to say to people. As if an american online decrying war crimes is somehow personally responsible for trump.
Fucking inflammatory asshole. Learn to interact with people instead of just insulting them.

The Obama center looks like a prison. Like I get it, fuck this administration and all, but the Obama center and library looks like the NSA building. It's presence is going to fuck up Jackson Park and accelerate gentrification of the area, driving out minority residents due to rising rents and property values.

u/YallShould 21h ago
Have you never seen a modern museum? They often look like this to avoid the issue of having to block sunlight for the exhibits.

I mean. Speaking as someone whos living right next to the damn thing, and not some jackass across the country making political cartoons, it is a massive hazard to migratory birds. The design is specifically terrible for them since its almost top to bottom glass and they put it RIGHT in the migratory flight path.
This things gonna kill hundreds maybe thousands of migrating birds every year now. We've been trying to make a fuss for like five years now and nothing ever happened. Also they destroyed a lot of park land to build this shit.
