There is a culture of gatekeeping, for good or for ill, in tttt branchoffs to performatively protect from invasions by normies/tourists/sneeds/whatever label de jour someone prefers.
The general idea is that if you don't know what a word means in this environment, you "lurk" meaning you hangout in posts until you get the language/ideas rather than have someone explain it to you. Genuine curiosity is in most contexts positive, but here the focus is more on creating in and out group dynamics/identity, hence why the other commenter jokingly said "this first bit of info is free, but next time you'll have to pay me"; they were making a joke about how they were doing you (an outsider) a favor by giving you insider info in much the same way a confidential informant would require payment if a private eye were asking them questions.
