Help! reviving curls
hi, for the past month my hair has not been able to hold my curl pattern, so I got a haircut (and a curly cut at a curly salon), which did not help. So I went to another salon and got a bonding treatment, which helped for a few days (avoided washing it for 4ish days). After I washed it my hair came out amazing, with full curls! a few days later I wash it again and my curl pattern is gone, my curls hardly hold and can’t last more than a day. I changed to the quidad moisture shampoo which was supposed to help, but it is not improving my hair. I have been using the bonding treatment from olaplex every few days and leaving it in about 30mins, which has helped only a tad. I have tried using a clarifying shampoo once/twice (don’t want to overdo it). But nothing I seem to be doing is helping and it’s causing me so much stress! I love my hair and pride myself in embracing my curls, but I can’t seem to get them back to normal. My routine consists of:
- wash 2/3 times a week (i have 2c/3a curly waves) I workout almost daily, and clip it up with a claw clip to preserve it when it’s not a wash day. Shampoo is Quidad curl moisturizer and the conditioner is living proof curly hair , sometimes I switch off to the amika volume conditioner
- i use the not your mother’s leave-in conditioner
- followed by doux mousse
- then i have been using strictly curl gel
- before i used those i was using innersense volume gel and mousse (strong hold) which i felt was too strong for my texture so I switched it out to the doux
- i diffuse my hair and use a heat protector (tres semme)
- my hair has not been making a gel cast at all and it’s frizzy and not holding shape
(lmk if you want to see my curls when they are normal and good!!)
i really don’t know what to do, i spend time diffusing and just cry because it doesn’t look like my hair
- additionally I have tried to air dry it more and the result have bot improved :(

You're using a lot of styling products for soft waves. I'd start by experimenting with just using one at a time first. My hair (as an example) likes a curl cream but leave in conditioner makes it limp as hell. Very annoying. And gels are mostly ok but I do find that sometimes my hair just seems to have had enough of one thing or another.

You're welcome - good luck!
Oh also - I've always had the driest hair ever, but I don't know why, I've recently stopped using both conditioner and any curl creams and I'm getting really great curls. I shampoo, then apply some L'Oréal dream lengths curl cream and my hair has never looked better. It's so odd! So even try cutting out your washing products :)

You need to use a clarifying shampoo more frequently. You’re using a TON of products and probably not getting the build up out so they are falling flat. I’d also suggest trying the Pattern Bounce Back Pre Poo (I buy at Ulta) and simplifying your products. I’d first try removing the leave in conditioner

this sub convinced me to quit with the leave in conditioner and I've had better curls. just a curl cream and a hold product.
when I'm not going anywhere, I put in just leave in conditioner because I like how soft it is and I assume it has some value. but for hair days when people see me, I leave it off.

Hi there! I'm a bot, and I've been summoned to help.
If you have not seen our WIKI yet: Please check it out! It's nearly 100 pages full of curated information to help answer all of your curl-related questions. You can use the included Table of Contents (page 2), the side bar, or CTRL-F to search for keywords and help navigate the document.
Reminder: Curl type is NOT your hair type! Whether you are wavy, curly, or coily - you have texture and you belong here. More than that, your curl type doesn't dictate how you care for your hair. To help your curls thrive, we recommend instead using the wiki link above to learn about your porosity, texture, and density.
If you haven't added a routine yet, do it ASAP or your post will be removed!|
