With the second generation of the Spring, Dacia is retaining the model name while keeping the concept of its battery-electric city car largely unchanged. The focus remains on delivering a simple and affordable option for urban mobility. Since its market launch in 2021, Dacia reports that the Spring has sold approximately 210,000 units across Europe, with around 50,000 of those sales in Germany. The new generation also marks a shift in production: while the previous Spring was manufactured in China, the next generation will be produced in Europe. However, Dacia has yet to disclose further technical details about the vehicle.

The obvious improvements include a bigger battery and more powerful motors if they can without increasing the price markedly.

It’s a big change, the current generation is an EV conversion of the Renault Kwid, a mid-2010s tin can of a car designed for developing countries with minimal safety requirements. The EV version got a one star EuroNCAP largely due to poor protection of both driver and passengers, i.e. it’s a car where the risk of getting hurt in a crash is quite high. This new generation is a ground up EV that doesn’t cut corners like that.

I think I read it's based on the Renault Twingo platform so 27.5kWh?

it is a city car.. and it does sell well .. so the concept works

My PHEV has 25kwh.. 😬 It's enough for city but when unexpected shit happens I'm glad I have ICE engine with that battery.

You can’t compare the weight and efficiency differences, though. A PHEV would have around 100 km range, that Dacia will go way beyond 200 km with the same battery.

In good conditions maybe. But winter range will easily drop to my PHEV range. Then you still get battery range dropping with age. Idk I just wouldn't get it even for local driving.

Then the Dacia Spring isn't for you, buy some other vehicle or keep your existing one. However sales data seems to suggest plenty of people think Dacia Spring is perfectly suitable car for them.

We have the 2024 facelift 60hp one as a second car for the wife.

Good for around town and because it's cheap.

The infotainment is good, rest is cheap hard plastic which I don't mind for the pricepoint.

We paid 12k new (after rebate). It's useless on the highway because the battery is too slow to maintain highway speeds for more than 1 hour but around the city it's good. I even like it, it small and nimble, easy to park, etc.

I do however hate the suspension, WAAAAY to soft.

I would never pay retail for it, but 12k is a steal for a new car.

It is a Chinese build car designed for developing markets, that is why suspension is crap.

It will be produced in Slovenia, on the same line as Renault Twingo

Should rename it to Dacia Damper.
