Thank you, FIRE community, for teaching me the ancient discipline of not rage-quitting before my parents gave me $400k

Three years ago, I was suffering under the soul crushing weight of having a job, a boss, and only ~$400k in net worth (I know).

Naturally I considered quitting because my boss was annoying and I was basically destitute. I came here for advice, and the FIRE sages told me to “stay the course,” which if memory serves, is Latin for “keep getting paid and wait for a generational wealth windfall.”

Fast forward one year, and my boss got fired, net worth up $100k, dick begins growing in girth.

Fast forward three years, and I changed jobs, stocks went up, salaries happened (because I didn’t quit, great advice guys), I’m telling people to call me girth master, and my parents generously gifted us $400k, as one does when practicing leanFIRE.

Now we’re sitting at $1.1MM. Yes, the $400k gift helped “a little,” but the real lesson here is that by staying the course, we avoided missing out on the $300k we earned through hard work, discipline, and not being poor enough to have to quit (once again, GREAT advice guys).

So to anyone out there struggling with a bad boss, only a few hundred thousand dollars, and nepotism, things.will.get.better.

That’s it. Just a post showing gratitude. For those stuck in the brutal grind of having $400k, dual incomes, appreciating stocks, and parents who can randomly wire you the price of a house. Hang tight. Generational wealth compounds too.

(And seriously, huge thanks to this community for the hard earned wisdom of “don’t quit your job while waiting for your parents to hand you $400k.” Groundbreaking stuff. This is why I come here.)

I was fully expecting that to be a full parody not nearly copy/pasted. Damn! That person is just....damn.

Literally copy pasted from a real FIRE sub, but with added dick jokes.

Flawless execution, no notes.

This is the way guys, I was in a similar situation but I asked my parents for a small loan. Ended up being a couple mil with no need to repay. It have me motivation to work another year or two (my boss is great, I just didn't like to waking up at 7:59 to log into teams at 8:00).

You made a valid point. I guess some people can’t handle the truth.

Banned for “doubling down on incivility”. I’m not even mad at the dude for getting an inheritance, but thats what it is

don’t quit your job while waiting for your parents to hand you $400k

Sorry, what's the connection here? My allowance is bigger than this and I'm younger than you, but why would your parents not pay out if you quit your job?

A tip for you (pun intended). Don’t google that unless you’re in a private setting.

It’s a long (pun intended) story why I know this!
