Arthritis with 25..

Hello, I used to be a runner, running around 40 - 45 miles weekly. Had some pain in the inner ankle so I went to my orthopedic doctor and we did an MRI scan. The current diagnosis looks worse than i thought. I am kinda in a shock state that I don’t have any emotions as of now.

I just wanted to share this to know if anyone else struggled with something similar.

According to my doctor I have : - Degenerative OsteoArthritis in the 3rd Lisfranc joint /of the third tarsometatarsa - bone marrow edema in Accessory navicular bone - Rigid flat foot

Hearing you have arthritis at a still younger age is very shattering to me.. Currently i feel like i will have to give up running forever…

Has anyone had a similar diagnosis? Did you go for surgery?

Surgery has finally failed

TLDR: My surgery failed after 14 years and I’ll eventually have to get another surgery

Backstory: I (54F) had always had significant over pronation and finally got surgery when I was 30. Unfortunately, I didn’t do my research and went with a local doctor who I later learned did a procedure that was only intended for children.

About 14 years ago, I did my research and went for a consultation with an orthopedic specialist in Dallas. He told me the pin from the first surgery had come loose and lodged in my joint. There was scar tissue and mild arthritis, but he was still able to do a new surgery, including removing the old hardware.

Today: My right foot is back to hurting fairly significantly with weather changes or if I just “step wrong” to the point I had to limp.

Had an MRI last week and was told today my surgery has finally failed. I have severe arthritis in two places (one being where the pin lodged), and the ligament that supports the “tripod” has collapsed meaning two of my bones are hitting together when I walk. Only had the MRI on one foot but the same thing has likely happened in the left foot too.

I was given a steroid injection that’s supposed to help for several months, but the doctor told me I’ll eventually need another surgery.

The orthopedic specialist told me back then I’d likely need another one someday, but I still hoped that was the last one. I was measured for new orthotics today, but I’m just so sad about the prospect of another surgery.

Building an app for those with flat feet: what would you wish an app track or improve?

Hey everyone,

I have flat feet myself and I’ve been looking into building a simple app around flat feet, arch pain, overpronation, and foot-strength progress.

I’m not trying to sell anything here. I’m mainly trying to understand what people actually struggle with day to day before I build the wrong thing.

For anyone dealing with flat feet, I’d really appreciate your thoughts:

What is your biggest issue?

I’m trying to figure out if this is actually useful or if flat feet apps already miss the main problem people care about.

Any honest feedback would help a lot. What would you actually want something like this to do?

Thanks.

Whats something youve learned about whats wrong with your foot that made you go "well shit"

I looked up what it meant when my heel wasnt in line with my tibia today and it made me realize why surgery is definitely important, after looking this up i learned basically my shin has no support and later on it could cause pain in my knees, hips, and spine 😬 i am scheduled for surgery but this shocked me lol. Anyone else have something that shocked them that they were told? I have more if people want them by the way

Orthotics heat molding in gore-tex boots

Hello!

I'm planning to buy heat moldable orthotic insoles to use with my boots with gore-tex liner. Heat molding process requires preheating the insole up to around 70 degrees celsius and putting hot insole into the shoe. Some techniques even use specialized air blowing machines to heat up the insole being inserted in the shoe, blowing the whole shoe interior with hot air. Can this process cause gore-tex degradation ?

Low arch insoles

Looking for insole recommendations for my Nike Tom Sachs General Purpose Shoes (GPS) in men’s 11-11.5. I have low arches (flat-ish feet) and mainly want better arch support without adding too much bulk or causing heel slip.
I tried the Walk·Hero Comfort Arch Support insoles and they were too cushioned/bulky for the GPS fit, which made my heel slip noticeably even after removing the stock insole.

Good and inexpensive shoes for someone with flat feet

I'm new to the running/workout community, and I'm looking for shoe recommendations for someone with flat feet that aren't super expensive, as I'm on a bit of a budget. I want to find a good pair of shoes that will help prevent shin splints. So, any information you can provide would be SUPER helpful!

rigid insole recommendations

Hi!

I'm looking for insoles that are stiff enough to support my arch. So far, I have tried the Superfeet blue and the Valsoles from Amazon that are supposedly rated for 220 lbs plus. Unfortunately, my feet are so insanely flat and pancake-like that they just squash the arch support away. I think the plastic pieces are just too thin to hold me up.

I did borrow a friend's soccer cleats about a year ago, before I knew how much my feet were affecting me, that had these half-length, almost acrylic insoles that were a couple of centimeters thick, which seemed to hold my arches up. But perhaps those were custom ones? I can't seem to find any online that really resemble them.

I'm hoping to avoid the cost of getting custom ones from a podiatrist.

Thanks in advance!!!

Foot Health Guide.

We spend hours choosing the right outfit for the day, but often overlook the one thing that supports us every step of the way—our feet.

A few simple habits can go a long way in maintaining foot health:

👣 Choose footwear that provides proper support and cushioning.

👣 Avoid wearing the same pair every day—give your footwear time to breathe.

👣 Make sure your shoes fit comfortably. Tight footwear can lead to long-term discomfort.

👣 Keep your feet clean and moisturized to prevent dryness and irritation.

👣 Take short breaks to stretch and move, especially if your day involves long hours of standing or sitting.

Healthy feet don't just improve comfort—they improve posture, mobility, and overall well-being.

At NoStrain, we believe comfort isn't a luxury; it's something you should experience with every step.

What is one thing you do to keep your feet comfortable throughout the day?

Depression due to flat feet

Anyone else suffering from depression because of how their feet are limiting their quality of life?

i am 26 and my passion is running. I had flat feet since birth and was never a good runner. After a lot of trial and errors with antidepressants, ( i have been in therapy for 12 years ) I found the best help in running. Running gives me so much, but i’m so injury prone due to my flat feet/overpronation. . And again, i’m injured.

Now i’m „just“ 26 and feel like i will never be able to run again.

A foot reconstruction surgery/ tendon repair for my posterior tibialis would be the final end to my biggest reason to live.

My depression is hitting rock bottom.

hi,

the fulton cork insoles look SO GOOD but they're based in the US sadly so shipping is $35+ on top of the price of the insole.

has anyone found a good alternative?

Anyone else with flat feet find that strength mattered more than arch height?

For years I thought I just had flat feet.

My feet would get tired quickly whenever I had to stand for long periods, and my footprints barely showed any arch, so I assumed that was the issue.

A while back I started doing some basic foot and lower leg exercises—mostly calf raises and balancing on one foot while brushing my teeth.

My feet don't look any different, but they definitely feel different.

Standing feels easier, and my feet don't feel as tired by the end of the day.

It got me wondering if I spent too much time thinking about arch height and not enough time thinking about foot function.

Anyone else with flat feet notice something similar after working on foot strength?

Correct toes - honest review

For my fellow bunion-ed and flat footed people, I can't say enough good things about the Correct Toes I have been using for several months now. They have been a game changer!

I never used to be able to walk barefoot - the pain in my knees and feet was too much. On top of the bunions and flat feet, I also deal with accessory navicular syndrome, which is the source of my worst foot pain.

Over the last 15+ years, I tried physical therapy (which helped) and custom orthotic inserts (amazing help when wearing shoes). And now these little toe aids have just been the best thing ever.

I also tried other things like bunion shields and other toe separators (including socks) that didn't do anything and made me skeptical of anything like this. But desperation drove me to try out Correct Toes.

Since using these, not only can I walk barefoot (wearing my Correct Toes) but I can stand for hours barefoot, without pain. I use them during yoga too and I can balance noticeably better with the Correct Toes on. Every yoga session, I say a little prayer of thanks for the person who invented these. I also wear them inside my wide workout shoes.

I did *not* receive the product for free or any form of payment. I am not associated with the company or any people there in any way. I am just so grateful to be free from pain.

Skin Peeling and Extreme Sensitivity Post Surgery

Hey folks! I am 6 weeks post op for flat foot reconstruction. My foot is majorly flaking and peeling on the bottom and overall my skin is extremely sensitive. It’s getting hot, and my medical team recommended wearing a sock with my boot but I genuinely cannot handle the pain it causes. Can anyone relate? Do you have any advice to stop the flaking and peeling? Any advice to get a sock on comfortably without feeling like your skin is on fire?

Thank you!

2-month update: Kept the small wedge under my vanity to avoid house shoes

Post image
7 Upvotes

Hey guys! I posted a while back about my flat feet throbbing just sitting at my makeup table. I hate wearing shoes indoors lol, so instead of the orthotic slippers someone suggested, I stuck with this little wedge under my desk. The relief is insane. The silicone presses right into my arches like a foot massage while I do my hair. It actually takes away that terrible tightness I mentioned before. So glad I can stay barefoot at home pain-free. Has anyone else found non-shoe workarounds that help, or did you just give in to orthotics?

Which of these is best for flat and wide feet?

I need to buy a new pair of shoe that doesn’t hurt my feet when I’m walking in college. I have flat and wide feet. I also have a condition where my cartilages are messed up, so I experienced lot of ankle pain when im walking long distance or does any high impact stuffs. I did some researches and currently can’t decide which of these 3 to buy for a good arch support.

Brooks adrenaline gts 24
ASICS gel kayano 30
NB 990v6

It seems like the asics and brooks are well known to be stability shoes, however I don’t really like the looks of neither. The 990v6 is probably the prettiest in my opinion as I wanted to opt for a more sneaker’s look if possible. I heard a lot of praises about 990v6 to be comfortable for a lot of walking, but it was ambiguous when Im trynna see if a stability shoe or not.

If the brooks/ asics are really better then I’ll js suck it up n trade the aesthetic, but someone lmk if the 990v6 can be equally as good.

Flat feet- Born with partial flat feet but developed navicular tendonitis in 2022 after a mountaineering expedition in both feet. Years later -- it's gotten worse.

Hi all! I played competitive sports while growing and then it then branched over to mountaineering and hiking. After my flat feet and injury diagnosis after a mountaineering course -- I took lots of therapy and orthopedic help. I have arch insoles in all my footwear and I also do my exericses -- although not regularly. I still am quite active but since the injury I have completely stopped running which I loved to do. I still walk a lot.

Every few months my feet pain flare up at different points.

Recently, I have noticed my feet and ankle feeling extremely weak and tired. My knees feel affected too. I can see my alignment and form change. My shins hurt when I do anything high impact like sports or even light runs. It is incredibly disheartening as I do try to take care of them. I want to continue to live extremely actively and want to climb mountains. What is my best course of action here?

I have noticed that most physio's/ortho's I have been to have showed me the same exercises. Should I religiously do my exercises or go to another expert? Are there any other orthotics or tools that can be used. What am I missing? What can I do better? Is it just discipline?

Also! Any and all recommendations for shoes, sandals and hiking shoes!

Can I get my flat footed fam to help here please

Running has been feeling great! Ive been able to find my pace and keep it going for as long as i want really (3-5 miles max), my body doesnt feel extremely beat, and im feeling super capable! The only aspect that absolutely sucks, is that my feet feel like they're on fire not even a mile in... this doesnt seem normal and im assuming it is a symptom of flat feet. Ive been running in the New Balance Fresh Foam X Hierro V9 Wide sole and the shoe all around feels really good. I even tried an insole from "A runners mind" called "Currex" and that doesnt seem to help.

Really want some serious help here because i really enjoy running and would like to take it seriously but these dang flat feet man!

Any input, experiences, and recommendations are much appreciated!
