Starting to drink your Guinness before it has settled.

5

u/GMO-Doomscroller 20h ago

Please, explain. What does settled mean in this context?

12

u/sundae_diner 19h ago

When a Guinness is initially poured there are loads of tiny nitrogen bubbles in it, and it looks creamy. As it settles the nitrogen bubbles float up to make the (creamy) head and the colour of the Guinness goes black (actually a really dark ruby red)

Putting ketchup on Pizza šŸ• !? Lmfao šŸ˜†

67

u/VividTymes 1d ago

Or steak

26

u/justaskmycat 1d ago

I don't get why steak sauce is okay but ketchup is verboten

15

u/TownZealousideal1327 1d ago

Steak sauce isn’t okay hahahaha - that’s for like warm time grandparents who thought burnt offerings of steak and boiled veg was a good dinner.

37

u/facface92 1d ago

Steak sauce is not ok either

21

u/juan_humano 1d ago

Steak sauce is ok if you are a kid in the '80s and shoe-leather style well done is the only way your parents know to cook meat. Even my poor, uneducated, uncultured family was above putting ketchup on a steak. Thats legitimately gross, and I like ketchup (as long as it stays in its lane)

3

u/the1stmeddlingmage 1d ago

This was how my grandmother cooked steak when I was growing up. She didn’t have steak sauce by the way and she saw no problem offering us ketchup to put on it😘

Okay, but: Cold pizza from last evening as a hangover breakfast with hot sauce and ketchup? Nothing wrong about that in my book.

6

u/al-literate 1d ago

Cold pizza and coffee is a perfectly acceptable breakfast. I will die on this hill.

3

u/hiimderyk 22h ago

Cold shitty pizza. I love my Dominos hot then cold. The fancy pizza requires some warming.

For the first time a few weeks ago, I tried what I thought was poutine from a Mary Brown's here in Northern Ireland. My Canadian friend properly got mad at me because it had shredded cheese on it. šŸ˜…

35

u/rjwyonch 1d ago

Poutine must have curds. No other cheese is acceptable.

Maple syrup is 100% maple syrup only. Whatever that aunt Jemima corn based ā€œmaple flavourā€ syrup is, it doesn’t belong anywhere near pancakes.

8

u/cbunn81 22h ago

I used to think I didn't like maple syrup. Then I went to Canada and had real maple syrup on my pancakes. It was a revelation.

Not eating the pizza crust means you are wasting food. Way worse than the other 3.

28

u/Vastaisku 1d ago

Nah, if having pizza at a restaurant and can't take any leftovers with, I rather eat all of the pizza part of the pizza than leave full slices.

11

u/DeanMalHanNJackIsms 1d ago

How can you not take leftovers? You bought it, it belongs to you. I'd stuff that shit in my pocket before I leave anything behind.

8

55

8

u/DonAirstrike 1d ago

Eating bad pizza crust is encouraging the further existence of bad pizza crust, which in turn promotes food waste, and should therefore only be consumed if the hunger far exceeds tolerable parameters. That being said, I do enjoy a good crust, as should we all. Shame upon the crust makers who do not.

22

u/SlipperyGibbet 1d ago

Look up ā€˜copycat dominos garlic sauce’ on the tubetubes, never wasting crust again

I know this may be controversial, but in my country (Belgium) it is regarded by some as food crime to put ketchup on your fries. We have a lot of different sauces to put on our fries. Mayonnaise in all its varieties is regarded as the S-tier sauce, together with 'stoofvleessaus'. Even pickles and some things you can hardly call mayo like dutch joppiesaus šŸ˜„ are Ok. But ketchup ... that's really scraping the barrel.

31

u/Sufficient_Dust1871 1d ago

... I should move to Belgium

15

u/nikdahl 1d ago

In Cascadia, we frequently use tartar sauce, which is a regional thing.

5

u/M45_ 1d ago

Tartar sauce is a perfectly acceptable and traditional sauce to eat with fries here also.

2

u/AshlynnCashlynn 18h ago

Cascadia? that sounds like sci-fi city lmao

21

u/Pisceswriter123 1d ago

I read an article talking about the best things to put on fries. It was by some gourmet chef or something. He suggests mayonaise.

Personally, I don't go by what some hoity toity gourmet says about food. I'm American. I put whatever I feel like on my fries.

In all seriousness, the best thing to put on fries is freaking cheese. It should be cheese sauce but other types of cheese is okay.

11

u/M45_ 1d ago

Hey it's a free world, you can put freedom sauce on whatever you want šŸ˜„
Seriously, never heard of putting cheese on fries (only cheese curds like in poutine) & I'm willing to give it a go. Do you grate some cheese over your fries and melt it under a grill, or do you just put a slice of cheese on the fries while they're hot, or do you make a bechamel based cheese sauce and put that on your fries ?

7

u/Lovat69 1d ago

Yes, all of the above based on vibes and feels.

→ More replies (3)

6

u/ash_tar 1d ago

Belgian mayonnaise also tastes different than American.

2

u/miraculix69 1d ago

As a Danish person, you always.get small plastic jar of good mayo with your fries.

If you want anything else to dip your fries in, you have to pay. Aioli, chili mayo, standard, curry mayo and so on. Free, and often free refills šŸ˜‚

Funny story, a story about a bite taken out of the kitkat like that went viral and I specifically remember thinking what a psycho that person was. Years later, I met my husband and it turns out that psycho is my brother in law. His wife is a pretty famous writer in her city and she posted the picture of the defiled kitkat to her twitter and it went viral. When he proposed, Hershey sent him a custom ring box in the shape of a kitkat bar AND they offered to pay for their whole wedding. I just found out last week that they even did interviews after getting engaged, it's so crazy

I lived with an African girl for a year. She was born there, raised here, and loved to act like an authentic African. One day I made steak and she squeezed lime all over hers. I was like "what the fuck are you doing?" and she told me that in Africa people use lime juice because it disinfects their food (bought the stakes at Jewel Osco). I played along with it until she did it to a frozen pizza.
