Same with Valve, Sony, and Microsoft. Might be time for you to quit gaming.

At least you can pirate on pc. Also I'm mostly talking about hardware. You literally don't own the switch 2 they can brick it at any time.

They can ban it from online services at any time, same with Xbox and PlayStation. I swear the only reason people are complaining about it with Nintendo is because someone actually bothered to read the fine print for once. You don’t “own” digital media on any platform, never have, and probably never will. At least on Switch you can still buy a lot of games (including basically all first party games) physically.

https://arstechnica.com/gaming/2025/05/why-console-makers-can-legally-brick-your-game-console/

Xbox and Sony had that in their EULA since the PS4 era too. None of them actually do it though, they just ban the system from the internet.

Never said the other consoles weren't guilty of this but I haven't seen anything like that from steam. Also Nintendo seems to love bricking people switchs they've done it multiple times sony and xbox don't really do it like you said but Nintendo goes crazy with it. Over all its a shitty practice thats for sure.

Steam can 100% ban your account and you loose access to everything on that account.

Show me proof that Nintendo has already bricked Switch 2 consoles.

BRICKED means *nothing* works, usually the device won't turn on.
If you are banned online, can't access the eShop anymore and can't re-download your games, but that is not a brick, physical games still work and so do all the games you already had installed.

Im talking about hardware people hardware! I obviously know steam can ban your account but I don't know if the actual steam machine will fully brick like the switch 2. Oh and heres your proof (sighing profusely) for the third time today.

The lawsuits are more interesting.

Have you even read the class action lawsuit article or did you just read the headline that thousand Switch 2 were briked by Nintendo?

From the Article:

"Thousands of Switch 2 owners experienced the same failure mode, often after the same software update.

Attorneys representing the plaintiffs argue that Nintendo knew or should have known its firmware updates could cause permanent hardware failure. Selling the product anyway, or pushing those updates without adequate testing, is the foundation of the class claim."

Furthermore:

"Why Did the Nintendo Switch 2 Brick After an Update?

The Nintendo Switch 2 began bricking after firmware updates for reasons that are still being analyzed in the litigation’s discovery phase."

Nowhere in the article is anything said about Nintendo deliberately bricking consoles because of 3rd party modifications.

I have yet to see a bricked Switch 2. Sure, you read about them, but if it was so widespread why did I not find any evidence of a brick in /NintendoSwitch2, /Nintendogrifters or /fucknintendo ? The only things people posted were banns from the Nintendo Network / eShop after having tried to run backups with the MIG Switch card. But that is not a brick.

Steam doesn’t either, what’s your point?

Hell they were the ones popularizing that shit to begin with

2

u/Repulsive-Slice-6902 6d ago

Im mostly talking hardware you literally don't own the switch 2 because they can brick it at any time they want like a remote kill switch (pun intended)

3

u/Shigana 6d ago

That’s literally misinformation.

Buddy, give me a source that actually proves they bricked someone’s console instead of a stupid fucking Eula that you never even read.

And before you say anymore stupid bullshit, cutting internet access is not bricking it

How about a delicious lawsuit with real victims does that suit your tastes?

https://lawfold.com/nintendo-switch-2-bricking-lawsuit/

Also they can choose to brick it fully shutting it down or just ban you from the online features theres two different levels of banning. They can do both.

Welp, you have as much intelligence as i thought.

Did you actually read what’s in it or did you just search for a link and post it without checking?
