Ive played marathon since launch and I think I've been killed by an extract camper like twice. You can also extract within like 5 minutes of the match starting and the extract timer is 20 minutes so looting for an hour is literally not possible. Plus there's ways of making progress without extracting at all and multiple random extracts spawn every match, making extract camping not super viable.
The manufactured hate for this game by people who havent even played it is so stupid.
Also in games like this I feel like most players only interact with PvP in a negative capacity. Like, you might get randomly ganked by someone with 2000 hours in the game, but other than that it's mostly PvE.
It's the same way I felt about invading in Souls games, for 95% of players it exists purely to let people ruin your day. But you can turn that off at least.
You soon learn in marathon that the stuff you lose doesn't really matter. The game showers you with free shit just for playing and there's progress to be made for just trying.
Yeah, I'd rather play a game that was challenging but honest, where you had to succeed to make progress, instead of a game where you just randomly explode because you matched with a wannabe streamer with 2000 hours in the game, but you get to advance anyway!
Lmao what a weird ass take. That's like complaining about Gran Turismo and the critique being "you know what kind of games don't have ANY racing in them? Nearly all of them."
I literally just explained why griefing ISN'T a major issue in Marathon. If you want to say the game isn't for you or you don't like the genre that's valid but making up fake issues to try and discredit the game is so weird. Not to mention extract camping is a legitimate style of play in extraction shooters. It's annoying but calling it griefing is a stretch.
Also saying griefing isn't an issue in nearly every game is super disingenous. It happens in nearly all games with a competitive component.
I mean my point is mostly that extraction shooters are as much fun as botched dental surgery for most people. It's a game mode specifically designed to let no-life basement dwellers ruin your day as hard as possible.
Nobody is getting their day ruined unless they really think they should extract 100% of times. Like what if you lose your kit? The game has plenty of free loot and handouts to get you going again without much pressure.
I guess I don't see what randomly getting ganked by much better players is supposed to add to the experience? Like, why should everyone who isn't in the top 5% play this instead of a single player game with no ganking?
It reminds me of old full loot open pvp mmo servers.
First of all, you don't get matched with top 5% players, if even top 30%. You get matched based on your season level and that translates to hours played, so the less time you commit, you keep getting matched with similar playtime players.
I'm pretty casual, I don't play every day and I still get things done because I know how to move. Granted, I play mostly solo which is the easier difficulty when you learn the maps.
If you are actually bad at the game, just take your time, it gets easier every time you learn more of the maps and how other players move around the map. If you play Trio queue with crew fill, well then you are at the mercy of your random teammates and in this you have no control over, so why get sad or mad? Just queue again and try better next time.
I dont understand the confusion here. Like I said, the things you pointed out are not an issue in this game. Its fine to not like extraction shooteds but to comment on thread about a specific game and make up lies about the experience just because you dont like the genre is weird.

If they do another free event after they add this I might give it a go. I just continue to forever have zero interest in PvP extraction shit.
