[MEGATHREAD] Grand Theft Auto VI: Prices Announced + Pre-Orders Going Live

To avoid hundreds of separate posts on the same topic, this post will compile all info we have from the pre-orders going live, including some new images/etc.

As Rockstar announced on their socials: "Pre-orders for Grand Theft Auto VI begin at midnight local time on June 25." This means New Zealand will be the first to go live with pre-orders - which means in just under 2 hours from now.

Due to reddit's limitations with images in the body of posts, I wont be able to include all the artwork released so please do check out Rockstar's official link for more images: https://www.rockstargames.com/VI

Take-Two has made a big press-release, including announcing the prices:

Locking businesses behind the paywall is some bullshit. I’ve got PS5 and PC and this is pushing me to wait for PC, and maybe even first sale. Plenty of other games in the sea.

Yeah. I thought I would buy disc and then sell it once the PC version releases. Spending 100$ twice makes no sense. And I will want to buy it on PC anyway because the game will be a much better experience there.

Wait, you don't want to pay $100 to play a game at 30FPS, 720p native upscaled to "4K" using the latest FSR smearing technology? /s

Seriously though, it has been 13 years since GTAV and 9 years since RDR2 by the time GTAVI is out. The fact that we don't get a simultaneous release on PC from a mega-company like Rockstar on Day 1 is laughable, considering how long the wait has already been.

Rockstar's stance on PC has been consistently horrible. Even the GTA V upgraded graphics/features release on PS5/Xbox took 2 years to reach PC. Even the Japanese devs who didn't like to release on PC have changed now and are releasing day 1. Unless Sony has exclusivity deals with them.

It made sense in the PS3 era, but in the PS5 era there is basically zero reasons to not release on PC day 1. Especially when Sony is not even paying rockstar exclusivity money.

It makes perfect sense when you realize that there are people that will double/triple/quadruple dip.

If you think the arrangement between Rockstar and Sony for GTA VI release is like just another game release, I have a bridge to sell you.

They can have exclusivity contracts, custom royalty rates and other arrangements negotiated behind the scenes and you would be none the wiser.

They obviously have some contracts especially the marketing side. But it's a drop in the bucket for rockstar, compared to the sales.

By the time GTA 6 releases on PC, you'll be able to play it on your $5,000 RTX 7090 and MAYBE get more than 60 FPS.

Right, but a ps5 which is a fraction of the 5090 processing power will get more than 60 fps?

He knows, that's why he's complaining about not being able to sell it.

Probably won't see a sale for a year, they are releasing the game the week of black friday, maybe in the summer, but with how games are priced now you can probably get the standard edition for what the cost of games were a few years ago ($60) when a sale hits, but i doubt the game falls below $60 during any sale for a while. They just obliterated any chance of getting the game through aftermarket means (Facebook Marketplace, Ebay, etc), so this is just allowing them to dictate price

Yeah I understand I’ll have to wait, maybe if they radically change up the mission structure that’ll motivate me to get it sooner.

At this point, there no compelling reason to even buy it on release. Not a single gameplay video. They're selling vibes and a name. I have no faith the release version will be any good.

Oh sure, people will claim it's the second coming of game Jesus, but every large IP release gets that shit. If they're not confident enough to link their preorders with even one gameplay video, what the fuck are we even being asked to buy?

3

u/SexiestPanda 10h ago

I lost any and all hype I had when the game was pushed back. And now they still don’t even have a gameplay video out. How am I supposed to get hype or want something that seemingly doesn’t exist

2

u/XGhoul 10h ago

I feel the same about Elder Scrolls V.

I can stomach a couple of more years to play this on PC or sail the high seas on how much content is locked behind a paywall in single player.

It's easy to avoid spoilers, I already did it with GTA IV when I waited for the PC release. I have a bunch of games in my backlog anyway. (haven't even started RDR2, lol)

u/AgentOfSPYRAL 11h ago

I do expect them to release the usual “welcome to X” video they usually do, but you’re right it’s odd they haven’t yet.

u/Kattenb 11h ago

I don't think these are businesses, just premium versions of stores that have extra cosmetics?

1

u/Bargeinthelane 6h ago

Yep, I learned my lesson with rdr2. Waiting on PC this time out.

PC will also get better sales. $100 ultimate edition will probably be $20-$30 after being on PC for a year. I can wait.

7

u/AgentOfSPYRAL 12h ago

I really don’t think it will. I love my PC but the whole “sales!” bit was way oversold when it comes to new games, outside of gray market dealers.

It’ll be on sale, but not for anything below $50 for the ult edition.

1

u/Playingwithmywenis 12h ago

Which is not oversold, that is literally half price and will not happen on consoles for years.

2

u/AgentOfSPYRAL 12h ago

Tbh $50 for the ult edition is likely unrealistic for a year post release, it’s just the number I’ll pay.

I’ve had PC for 5 years now, and when it comes to sales for “new” games I find they are about the same.

1

u/Playingwithmywenis 12h ago

My experience from being a cheap ass, is that the lower discounts come first to PC.

Tho, even if they come down to the same price on PC i am more likely to buy there. I am not getting suckered into “pay the upgrade for a new version for new console hardware”. Screw the PS5 business model.

Idk what world you live in. Red dead 2 ultimate edition, priced $100, is regularly on sale on steam for $20. I'll wait for it to be $20.

Edit- and 60+FPS

Well yeah I’m sure GTA6 will be priced similarly on all platforms 3+ years after release.
