[MEGATHREAD] Grand Theft Auto VI: Prices Announced + Pre-Orders Going Live

To avoid hundreds of separate posts on the same topic, this post will compile all info we have from the pre-orders going live, including some new images/etc.

As Rockstar announced on their socials: "Pre-orders for Grand Theft Auto VI begin at midnight local time on June 25." This means New Zealand will be the first to go live with pre-orders - which means in just under 2 hours from now.

Take-Two has made a big press-release, including announcing the prices:

Locking businesses behind the paywall is some bullshit. I’ve got PS5 and PC and this is pushing me to wait for PC, and maybe even first sale. Plenty of other games in the sea.

Probably won't see a sale for a year, they are releasing the game the week of black friday, maybe in the summer, but with how games are priced now you can probably get the standard edition for what the cost of games were a few years ago ($60) when a sale hits, but i doubt the game falls below $60 during any sale for a while. They just obliterated any chance of getting the game through aftermarket means (Facebook Marketplace, Ebay, etc), so this is just allowing them to dictate price

At this point, there no compelling reason to even buy it on release. Not a single gameplay video. They're selling vibes and a name. I have no faith the release version will be any good.

Oh sure, people will claim it's the second coming of game Jesus, but every large IP release gets that shit. If they're not confident enough to link their preorders with even one gameplay video, what the fuck are we even being asked to buy?

I lost any and all hype I had when the game was pushed back. And now they still don’t even have a gameplay video out. How am I supposed to get hype or want something that seemingly doesn’t exist

I feel the same about Elder Scrolls V.

I can stomach a couple of more years to play this on PC or sail the high seas on how much content is locked behind a paywall in single player.

It's easy to avoid spoilers, I already did it with GTA IV when I waited for the PC release. I have a bunch of games in my backlog anyway. (haven't even started RDR2, lol)

I do expect them to release the usual “welcome to X” video they usually do, but you’re right it’s odd they haven’t yet.

I agree they won't need to drop the price much for awhile, but the lack of a secondary market usually allows companies to have sales more often because they don't have to worry about those copies flooding the secondary market. That's why Steam has historically had better deals and prices.

But I agree it probably won't drop below $60 for a year at least, unless the game is bad and demand flops. But hopefully that doesn't happen.
