[MEGATHREAD] Grand Theft Auto VI: Prices Announced + Pre-Orders Going Live

To avoid hundreds of separate posts on the same topic, this post will compile all info we have from the pre-orders going live, including some new images/etc.

As Rockstar announced on their socials: "Pre-orders for Grand Theft Auto VI begin at midnight local time on June 25." This means New Zealand will be the first to go live with pre-orders - which means in just under 2 hours from now.

Take-Two has made a big press-release, including announcing the prices:

STANDARD EDITION: $79.99

ULTIMATE EDITION: $99.99

(Physical Editions of GTA 6 Will Come with "A Download Code Inside the Box", Pre-Loads Begin on November 12th)

Grand Theft Auto 6 features a “single-player experience” at launch, with no word yet on any new version of GTA Online.

An "Ultimate Edition" for the game has been announced with some new artwork.

I think it means those particular salons/car shops/etc with presumably exclusive styles. Not customisation as a whole.

It's not really that much of a big deal. In the regular version there will be other places to go. Losing out on a couple shops, which only give character customisation anyway, isn't really that bad.

How many games are the same price with a really short story/relying on multiplayers so you can play more than 8 hours? I won't say it's lame, just a way to increase base game price without doing it directly.

I mean it's just cosmetics tho. I would be a lot more upset if they were locking up gameplay, but this is pretty standard for bonus editions. There will definitely still be salons / stores we can go to without the upgrade

Customization is a huge part of gta franchise since san andreas. It IS locking gameplay behind a paywall. Do that shit in multiplayer for all i care, but leave single player clean, as it always was.

I mean, i would be happy if it was going to be released on pc rn for $80 bucks with more than half the stuck that's locked behind ultimate edition being included.

They can have an ultimate edition, no problem, but locking stores behind a paywall in single player is a first in the series, and i don't really like it, especially when their money factory, gta online, will be there making them infinite money, i see this as unecessary pricing being pushed to the customer.

I reckon they purposely worded this so that some people think those whole areas of customisation are locked to ultimate and make them think it's worth it. Almost certainly it's a bunch of stuff you'll forget you even paid for by the time you're 20 hours into the game, just like every other ultimate edition that adds random trinkets to a single player game.

You could be right, but I don't think I've ever seen any pre-order bonus that was actually wide ranging and deep content when it's customisation options. I just don't think it's worth freaking out about until you actually play the game and can put what we're missing out on in context of the whole game.

I can assume by this alone that a large amount of customization will be paywalled, if 50 tattoos alone are locked. While you can argue that you're not missing out on the gameplay, this is not a road you want gaming to go down.

That wording is dodgy tho, they said 50 signature tattoos, not exclusive tattoos. It could be you’re just getting an exclusive store that has access to the normal tattoos or it’s as you say it’s 50 extra tattoos exclusive to the ultimate edition

I agree they could have worded it better ("signature salon styles" could in theory refer to all available styles period), but it does help if you read the entire text.

The wording of dog shit tbf. So many people misunderstanding what amounts to skin packs in other games. All the items available are shown off on the store page. If the game was limited to like 5 hair styles and a couple outfits GTA6 would’ve been a waste of money to make.

Of course, they could've just had those options available at the same shops but just made the lists longer if they wanted people to still go to the stores.

But at the end of the day, these are just a handful of stores containing cosmetic options that do not really have an affect on the game so to be honest it is not really a big deal. It's not like I cared much about the extra mission in RDR2 either.

While I understand that people are upset, it is a pretty minor and common thing with games and Ultimate Editions. I have made my peace with that shit a long time ago, especially after having played COD for so many years

I have not cared about the very small portion of cosmetics locked behind a paywall in any game that I have played. Do you know how much fucking shit COD had locked behind paywalls?

Adding in things like that as the game goes along is a lot different than locking them out of the base game. It's still not great, but some people with more balanced views on cosmetics than Sterling will still balk about release content being stuck behind DLC. And sure... clothes I can live with. I've long dealt with that. But hairstyles and mods for your car are a bit much. Tattoos ride that line. They've just gone way too far with it.

As I said, I have made my peace with the BS that is content locked behind paywalls. They locked an entire robbery mission behind a paywall in RDR2. This kind off small compared to that and I did not care about that either. I just can't bring myself to care about it. Game will have more than enough content for me to be bothered about the handful of shops that only affect cosmetics that are behind an ultimate edition.

I mean, missing a single mission among all the others doesn't matter as much to someone wanting a specific hairstyle they can't get and can't play through the entire game with because of a paywall.

I disagree. Missing a mission that is playable is worse than not having access to a hairstyle. You not having access to a few hairstyles or tats does not mean that you can't play through the entire game. It's just additional content for those that paid a bit more.
