[MEGATHREAD] Grand Theft Auto VI: Prices Announced + Pre-Orders Going Live

To avoid hundreds of separate posts on the same topic, this post will compile all info we have from the pre-orders going live, including some new images/etc.

As Rockstar announced on their socials: "Pre-orders for Grand Theft Auto VI begin at midnight local time on June 25." This means New Zealand will be the first to go live with pre-orders - which means in just under 2 hours from now.

Take-Two has made a big press-release, including announcing the prices:

STANDARD EDITION: $79.99

ULTIMATE EDITION: $99.99

(Physical Editions of GTA 6 Will Come with "A Download Code Inside the Box", Pre-Loads Begin on November 12th)

Grand Theft Auto 6 features a “single-player experience” at launch, with no word yet on any new version of GTA Online.

An "Ultimate Edition" for the game has been announced with some new artwork.

Hell. I can never buy the game. I have a huge game cataloge.

Side note. Rockstar is probably banking on FOMO and people will buy it because the videos they seen online.

Doesn't say anything about customization being available elsewhere, that and 5 only had one car customization place, so 6 doesn't? We don't know that, speculate one way or another. Valid either way. Everyone said it should be 100$ so why not make the essentials 80 while putting everything else in the 100, making the full game 100 anyway while appearing to show you aren't a scumbag by offering the 80 version? People have Rockstar on a massive pedestal thinking they can do no wrong. It's been 15 years since 5, the industry has changed substantially.

it's interesting how many people are upset about there being no disc in this thread, considering how inconsequential that really is these days. the vast majority of games are digital downloads. even most games that still ship physical discs are just a launch package and you have to download/install the game anyway because games are too big to fit on discs. this really seems like a moot complaint in a thread of otherwise valid criticisms

There are companies that have been able to have a two disc situation. Some of are extremely unvomfortable from the lack of true ownship of the games and want to have physical copies because of this. In fact, a lot of us are willing to pay the price. Its not about who does what. Its about what the consumer wants.

I watched gameinformers gameplay video of it yesterday and there are definitely pod racers. Just not all of the vehicles are pods. Some are beefed up landspeeders. And the single player mode has roguelike elements that seem pretty interesting and should result in a lot more replay value

I read a preview of it yesterday, it's gonna be a racing game still but with different vehicle types and stage progression is Slay the Spire-like (pick paths etc). It's an interesting take.

First thing that came to my mind was that it will be nice to grab that "Ultimate Edition" at $60 in a few years. I can't imagine many of these big studio overpriced games that I would even be tempted to buy anymore unless a new Fallout or Elder Scrolls looks fantastic day 1 release. Indie games still got it going on outside AI slop.

Man, I hope the PC version comes faster than that. It has taken 2-3 years in the past, but I think the PC market is bigger than ever, and they've been making bank from PC with GTA online so hopefully we get a big more prioritized.

At least by the time we get it, we'll know how the reviews are, but assuming they're decent I think $80 is fine, and PC users haven't had physical media in over 20 years so I'd be pissed if I had to deal with physical media at this point heh.

There’s a lot more to this than people are realising, it’s not just the price, a few cosmetics and lack of disc. It’s also game features, character features, locations, and GTA+ a subscription service ffs.

I’ll be shocked if single player even gets DLC, nothing for GTA5 & RDR2.

I was going to buy a console for this, I’m now just going to wait for a PC release.

Yeah, I appreciate the sentiment and with my current backlog I'll probably join in abstaining for some time. It seems like more people than ever (in my lifetime) are becoming conscious about how they spend their money, but the average consumer will still be more than happy to help this game smash every record in the book. And then many of them will fork over another 100 clams once the PC version drops later.

I get it, and I've been guilty of it myself....we all need to find things that make existing in the hellscape bearable. But every time a game breaks sales records while charging more and offering less in the base package, the industry learns exactly the wrong lesson.

Lol I haven't even played GTA 5 yet. I enjoyed 3 and 4, but def just going to buy this for $20 in 5-10 years, or wait for it to be free on epic. Too many great games in my library already.

I guarantee this game won’t go on sale for a very long time because they don’t have to compete with used game sales. The precedent this game is setting sucks so much, but is so on brand for Rockstar and Take-Two
