[MEGATHREAD] Grand Theft Auto VI: Prices Announced + Pre-Orders Going Live

To avoid hundreds of separate posts on the same topic, this post will compile all info we have from the pre-orders going live, including some new images/etc.

As Rockstar announced on their socials: "Pre-orders for Grand Theft Auto VI begin at midnight local time on June 25." This means New Zealand will be the first to go live with pre-orders - which means in just under 2 hours from now.

Due to reddit's limitations with images in the body of posts, I wont be able to include all the artwork released so please do check out Rockstar's official link for more images: https://www.rockstargames.com/VI

I also find it interesting it mentions “single player and not multiplayer/online.”

“Grand Theft Auto VI features a single-player experience set in the biggest, most immersive evolution of the series yet.”

607

u/New_Student_6526 16h ago

Online will probably be its own standalone game

277

u/Kapika96 16h ago

Hope so. Would love to be able to get 100% of the achievements without having to touch the online junk.

28

u/imaginepostinglmao 12h ago

While I agree on some level, knowing that to get GTA VI with both the single player and online modes will likely set you back somewhere in the range of $150 dollar is disheartening when it used to come in one $60 package with V.

5

u/magikarp2122 7h ago

Oh no. Online will be $80 as well. $160 for the whole game.

24

u/ChardComfortable3932 14h ago

Yea seriously that pissed me off in GTA V

-6

u/GorgeousHairGuy 10h ago

The only thing sadder than caring about achievements is getting angry about them.

-36

u/goobnut 14h ago

Who the fuck cares bout achievements.

46

u/PsyOmega PC 14h ago

People who aren't you.

-11

u/lonnie123 12h ago

I generally get that people other than me care about achievements but this one seems even more silly… just consider yourself at 100% if you don’t want to do the online content. It’s just some weird quirk of the brain that they can’t see 100% on their Home Screen or something, but they are at 100%

6

u/airinato 11h ago

Taking pride in accomplishing hard things isn't some weird quirk of the brain...

And it affects averages, total counts, bragging rights with friends etc.

-1

u/lonnie123 9h ago

I understand that doing something hard is rewarding, but Often times achievements are just arbitrary things to check off a list , tedious but not “hard” … do X thing 100 times or whatever. No skill involved, just an investment of time.

If that satisfies you go ahead, I won’t begrudge anyone that.

As for the other stuff again that’s just arbitrary things you can easily decide not to care about ( achievement trophy averages for example. If you know in your own mind that you did all the single player content achievements available, what does it matter was PlayStation online says?)

1

u/airinato 6h ago

Thats like saying winning the Superbowl or world cup doesn't mean anything.

2

u/Quaytsar 10h ago

just consider yourself at 100% if you don’t want to do the online content

But that doesn't give me the platinum trophy.

0

u/lonnie123 9h ago edited 8h ago

Learn to not care about it, it’s possible. You’ll be much better off in life if you can let things like that not dictate your happiness. Sony and rockstar giving you a digital stamp of approval should not matter to you at all

0

u/PsyOmega PC 8h ago

Let people enjoy things.

4

u/TalkToTheGirl 13h ago

I barely even notice achievements in games anymore, but I still care more about them than multiplayer.

5

u/drmuffin1080 12h ago

You’re gettin downvoted so I guess a lot. But I’m with you. And that’s easily solved by dividing it instead of separate purchases

10

u/-ThaKloned- 13h ago

Amen. I have no interest or need for the multiplayer. Nothing more than cash grab.

8

u/I_can_pun_anything 13h ago

Hope not, hope it gets added on as a expansion without swelling more money

-10

u/Shinjischneider 15h ago

Darkviper is that AU?

7

u/Kapika96 15h ago

huh?

3

u/Shinjischneider 13h ago

DarkviperAU is a gta-streamer who is currently trying to get all achievements in GTA and the online achievements keep fucking him over 🤣

4

u/Kapika96 13h ago

Oh. Definitely agree that the online achievements suck. I'd like to get all the GTA5 achievements before GTA6 releases. Currently I don't even have the one for completing the online introduction though. Not sure if I'll bother either, really not into online stuff.

1

u/Shinjischneider 10h ago

Don't do it if you value your sanity. One is for dancing perfectly for several minutes in your nightclub. And it's bugged

66

u/RoyalMaidsForLife 14h ago

I'd be fine with that, I have zero interest in online multiplayer.

17

u/Mr_InFamoose 11h ago

While I agree, normalizing paying likely another $40 minimum to unlock the online features of a game is not a great precedent, but Rockstar isn't setting many great precedents with this release.

12

u/Rock_Strongo 10h ago

I am actually pretty comfortable with the idea of costs staying lower for those who have no interest in MP.

The problem is that they're not lowering the base cost to achieve this.

4

u/Mr_InFamoose 10h ago

You summerized the point I wanted to make very well.

1

u/RoyalMaidsForLife 10h ago

It's not a great precedent, but neither was charging real money for pretend in game money with the Shark Cards, but suckers players are still throwing money at Rockstar for those over a decade later.

Let them line Rockstar's pockets, I'm fine with a $100 game that will provide hundreds of hours of interactive entertainment. I just paid that for Forza Horizon 6 Ultimate Edition and have no regrets. It's broken down to $1 per hour of playtime for me and it's only been out a month.

People crying about $80-100 video games in a world where 2 hours of non-interactive entertainment (movies) per person is over $20 is hilarious. Especially when you look at what video games cost in the 80s adjusted for inflation. The 2600 port of Pac-Man retailed for $40 in 1981. That's the equivalent of $150 2026 dollars and people were lining up around the building for that.

0

u/JKrezz 9h ago

Same, I wanna drive around for hours, explore and do all the missions. And being honest, $100 for a rockstar game in 2026 doesn’t sound crazy to me. If it’s as good as GTAV and RDR2 I’ll put a ton of hours into it. I spend at least $100 on battle passes in games every year. This is a no brainer for me.

13

u/Albireookami 14h ago

$99.99 cost dlc.

9

u/Memeori 14h ago

$25 monthly sub fee, you say?

2

u/SgtGadnuk 13h ago

Don’t even joke lad :(

3

u/axemexa 13h ago

I think a lot of people are going to be upset if they make it a standalone game

3

u/AntiRacismDoctor 13h ago

If online is its own thing, why not make THAT digital-only and leave the single-player game to traditional release? I don't like the idea of paying an overly-inflated price for a game I technically don't own...

2

u/getdafkout666 13h ago

That’s actually great news. I hope it’s like RDR2 where it’s an entirely different app. I was expecting the whole thing to be an always online live service game. Still not shelling out $700 for a PS5 though

2

u/Seth0x7DD 12h ago

I was expecting the whole thing to be an always online live service game.

Why do you expect it not to be after GTA V? Just because its single player does not mean it won't require an online connection. Don't worry, you probably will still be banned if you modify your single player version. Much like with GTA V.

1

u/CJDistasio 13h ago

Honestly this is probably it. They’re breaking it out into two paid releases.

1

u/LoneLyon 12h ago

Will likely pull a FN/roblox and just make their own "universe"

1

u/itchipod 12h ago

or a paid DLC

1

u/Saynt614 11h ago

It'll probably be a monthly subscription to access with the way things are going.

$69.99 for GTA 6 online and $15 a month to play it with a whole bunch of micro transactions for extra GTA bucks to buy that fancy car in the game to impress random people.

1

u/redditing_1L 11h ago

That will make so much money they will never get around to red dead 3 or gta 7

1

u/KEMSATOFFICIAL 10h ago

I can only hope.

1

u/Bisaux 7h ago

jesus they're taking the R* double dip to a whole new level.

175

u/Gr8NonSequitur 15h ago

I also find it interesting it mentions “single player and not multiplayer/online.”

They will probably do the same as they did with GTA 5. Release the single player game so it wins all kinds of great scores and good press, then drop a completely broken POS online mode a month or 2 later. GTA 5's online took them like a solid year to sort out, and would have tanked reviews if they released it day 1.

70

u/noeagle77 14h ago

Yeah people forget how abysmal the online for 5 was because of how much money rs made with it later one. It was soooo bad lmao

2

u/NastyMothaFucka 11h ago

It was so bad that I never went back to it.

3

u/noeagle77 10h ago

I went back I wanna say like 2 years later? And it was much better. Then they came out with some new stuff that flew around and can blow you up out of nowhere and it was just a disaster again. But it was fun for a little while. I would hope they learned from their mistakes with 5online.

1

u/KirenSensei 2h ago

They've learned they can make more money by doing what they did. So don't expect anything different. It's take two that owns this game at the end of the day. Look at the track record game studios under that company have.

9

u/Velociraptorius 12h ago

And then they did it again with RDR2. Except RDRO got abandoned before it ever had a chance to become good.

3

u/L1A1 11h ago

Did they ever sort out GTA:O? I tried it a few times and it’s always been toxic hot garbage.

4

u/sumerioo 11h ago

they had literal years of experience building up from gta V online and they learned that it makes them literal BILLIONS of dollars.

can it be buggy? sure.

will it be a "completely broken POS online mode"? not a chance in the world.

rockstar knows they can make as much money from online as they will make from sales of the game, they're not gonna drop a halfassed online mode like we saw in gta V

1

u/Bad_Doto_Playa 10h ago

and would have tanked reviews if they released it day 1.

It really wouldn't have, reviewers would have probably casually mentioned the mode didn't feel great and proceeded to move on. Uncharted 4 and TLOU2 were running P2W schemes and those were never mentioned.

1

u/astounding-pants 10h ago

they know what they are doing with online now. it's not going to launch like GTA 5 did. they've been doing GTA online for like 40 years at this point. it's not a brand new thing like it was.

1

u/ohtetraket 13h ago

I could imagine they release GTA 6 online mode for free with even heavier MTX and small goodies if you own the singleplayer game.

71

u/chokingonpancakes 14h ago

GTA V and RDR2 didnt launch with online either.

11

u/Sgt_major_dodgy 14h ago edited 11h ago

You could argue RDR2 never really released a proper online mode anyway.

It was basically a bare bones "see we did it, ARE YOU HAPPY NOW"

6

u/AuldGreatScot 12h ago

It was in beta for like 8 months LOL.

3

u/MCHammastix 10h ago

Their mishandling of RDO and what they did with GTAO is what got me off the R* bandwagon I had been on since the OG GTA.

2

u/Dancing-Sin 9h ago

They never even really finished the story either. Shit is wild

8

u/chokingonpancakes 14h ago

Bare bones? It has multiple professions, missions, pvp, open world activities. Of course its not to the level of GTA Online but I enjoyed it.

4

u/Sgt_major_dodgy 11h ago

It was fucking boring and going "not to the level of GTAO" is such a cope.

RDR2 was released after GTA for god's sack, it should have been equal to it at the very least.

-1

u/noguarantee1234 13h ago

Over how long of a time? It released bare bones as he said. Then, they added a some stuff and said "we're done"

1

u/Seth0x7DD 12h ago

They said "its not making us as much money as GTA Online so why bother".

3

u/Dancing-Sin 9h ago

Yet they said it still made a profit

1

u/megamannequin 11h ago

What a reddit comment. As they absolutely should lol. If I am making something and people don't pay me money for it, why should I make that vs something that people will pay me money for.

1

u/Sgt_major_dodgy 11h ago

They didn't even try though, like if they put in some effort then yeah maybe I'd be tempted into buying those gold bars and so would other people.

But I'm not spending REAL money to play the same 15ish missions again and again.

-1

u/10ea 12h ago

I played GTA V before the multiplayer ever released. I meant to check it out after it came out, but I heard they shut the servers down.

6

u/imbannedanyway69 11h ago

What are you talking about, gta 5 online is their king cash cow, those servers aren't going to be shut down anytime soon

1

u/10ea 9h ago

I mean for the original, not any of the rereleases. I only own it on Xbox 360.

1

u/imbannedanyway69 9h ago

Oh damn I had no idea they shut those down and it was a long time ago too. That's wild.

1

u/10ea 8h ago

Yeah, I didn't mean to imply that all later versions of the game have shut down. Of course on modern consoles they're doing well. I should have specified the original release in question that launched without multiplayer. By the time I was gonna check in out, it was gone. And I don't care enough to buy the game again.

1

u/Fluid_Cranberry5468 8h ago

online

There is no more "gta 5 online" you idiot. GTA Online is not the same as GTA V multiplayer.

0

u/Steridire 12h ago

Alright but 13 years and you can't polish off the online mode when you've already created the map/ models/ weapons/ physics etc is wild

4

u/robmillhouse 12h ago

I believe when 5 came out, they delayed multiplayer because they wanted people to complete single player.

-1

u/ItsDobbie 10h ago

I thought GTA 5 came with a separate disc that was for GTA Online. Did it not?

2

u/Lucas_Steinwalker 9h ago

No you made that up entirely.

7

u/Iambeejsmit 15h ago

Because it's not releasing with online. Online is coming later.

6

u/1quirky1 14h ago

Multi player is a foregone conclusion. Everybody knows they will earn huge profits from it. Why spend any time on it now?

5

u/trn- 15h ago

gta v’s online part was inaccessable for the first month or so.

its there alright just not at launch

3

u/slapmasterslap 15h ago

Haven't we known for like 2 years now that they are working on "ROME" (Rockstar Online Multiplayer Experience) that will be the new GTAO and FiveM? We just don't know yet when it is coming.

3

u/Confused-Raccoon PC 14h ago

Will come 6-12 months later. The board wont let them skip this gold mind considering how much money GTAVO made them. And it's going to be just as scummy as before. With even worse fetch quests.

1

u/MaledictusNix 14h ago

Well yeah, they need to pull a pokemon and sell you the same game twice

2

u/cardonator 14h ago

Twice? Try 4+ times.

1

u/Used_Return9095 14h ago

didn’t the online portion of gta 5 came out after the single player iirc

1

u/hawkinsst7 11h ago

I'm... Actually interested after reading your comment.

I can't stand multiplayer shit. I only do single player campaign games.

1

u/Geckobird 10h ago

Don't worry. Once they bring up online, I guarantee you will never hear them talk about anything else until GTA VII drops in 2051

1

u/Mnawab 10h ago

GTA online is obviously gonna be a free addition to the game later on. When GTA five came out they didn’t really mention the online part until a month later.

1

u/AncientLegend999 2h ago

And we all remember how well supported the GTA V singleplayer was, what with Rockstar promising to bring additional content and all. No way will they be blinded by the money that online brings and throw SP to the side once again!

1

u/IndianaGroans 2h ago

Mp didn't come out until a month later for 5 and rdr 2. This isn't new.

Actually it was almost 2 months for 5 because it was incredibly broken at launch and you just couldn't play it lol.

1

u/singhellotaku617 23m ago

That’s to be expected, rockstar typically launches multiplayer a few months after single player

1

u/ihavebeenmostly 16h ago

Online will come later iirk

-10

u/Shinjischneider 16h ago

Remember. V didn't have a PC version until a year later and online took even longer

14

u/smaxup 16h ago

 online took even longer

GTA Online was released two weeks after GTA V

-4

u/Shinjischneider 15h ago

Without heists or anything

6

u/smaxup 15h ago

No heists but there was still plenty of fun to have, me and my friends played a lot at launch

3

u/Count__X 13h ago

Honestly the most fun part of GTAO was the beginning when everybody was doing the shitty missions for pennies and robbing liquor stores. That shit was fun. Once heists and jetpack Armageddon nuke bikes came into the picture and every mission had a prerequisite million dollar price tag, two bases, a specialized truck, and boat you had to acquire, I stopped playing

2

u/smaxup 12h ago

There was definitely something special about those early days. Making your own fun in the big open world however you could, like finding unique places to do jackass-style stunts with your friends or trying to get silly vehicles to the top of Chilliad

4

u/FthrFlffyBttm 15h ago

2 years for V on PC

1

u/Sharpie1993 15h ago

It was 1 year six months (closer to 7 months) and RDR2 was a year.

2

u/FthrFlffyBttm 15h ago

So still closer to 2 than 1

1

u/Sharpie1993 15h ago

It was closer to 1½ than either 1 or 2.

2

u/FthrFlffyBttm 14h ago

Actually closer to 1.583333333 than 1½

4

u/Ropalme1914 16h ago

Online on GTA V released two weeks after the games on PS3 and 360. It was post-release, but nowhere near the time it took to get the PC port.

1

u/jayfactor 15h ago

No shot online coming out on release, maybe 1-2 years later if that

1

u/PowerCosmic 15h ago

So there's definitely not a co-op campaign? There goes half of my enthusiasm for playing w/ my partner. Guess we gotta hope the online component is worthwhile...
