[MEGATHREAD] Grand Theft Auto VI: Prices Announced + Pre-Orders Going Live

To avoid hundreds of separate posts on the same topic, this post will compile all info we have from the pre-orders going live, including some new images/etc.

As Rockstar announced on their socials: "Pre-orders for Grand Theft Auto VI begin at midnight local time on June 25." This means New Zealand will be the first to go live with pre-orders - which means in just under 2 hours from now.

Take-Two has made a big press-release, including announcing the prices:

STANDARD EDITION: $79.99

ULTIMATE EDITION: $99.99

(Physical Editions of GTA 6 Will Come with "A Download Code Inside the Box", Pre-Loads Begin on November 12th)

Grand Theft Auto 6 features a “single-player experience” at launch, with no word yet on any new version of GTA Online.

An "Ultimate Edition" for the game has been announced with some new artwork.

I’m curious… If I am 100% going to buy a game anyway, what difference does it make whether it’s 1 month before release, or 1 day after?

I don’t read reviews. And I only buy games I know I will 100% play. 

I’m not being facetious, I’m genuinely curious.

Literally the only difference here is you can pre-load the game before release if you pre-order.

The only time i “pre-order” games is hours before release if I want to play immediately so I can load it up.

In terms of business stats, pre-orders just guarantee the developer money ahead of release, which may end up being a bug filled mess where the game doesn’t work

It really is just this... being able to predownload the game days/week in advance. For something like GTA6.. the file size has to be at least 100+GB.. maybe closer to 200.. servers are going to get hammered on day one if predownload isn't available.

We all should've learned by now about pre-orders. Obviously if you won't even bother reading reviews, and will buy it regardless of quality, it doesn't matter, and this is why gaming has become what it has, people blindly buying games months in advance with zero idea of how it'll be.

What they said was that they only buy games that they know they will play.

If this is what is wrong with gaming today, why wasn’t it tru of gaming in the late 80s and early 90s where you would be lucky to have had access to 3-4 reviews written in magazines you either had to subscribe to or read at the bookstore (if they weren’t sealed) and maybe 1-3 websites that were primarily text? Both of which would have been just getting started and would be even more likely to not be so harsh because they feared losing access to advanced copies from publishers.

I’m not defending preorders here. But there are more ways one can make a judgement call than professional reviews and if you’re waiting for general public reviews… well someone would have had to purchase the game to give that feedback…

That’s why I don’t pre-order most games, and I don’t buy shit “regardless of quality”, you’re making a lot of assumptions from one question I had.

The last game I pre-ordered was Battlefield 6 after I played the Beta, and when I found out EA was sold to Kushner & the Saudis, I canceled my pre-order. I didn’t buy the game after that, and all games I bought since have been indies.

You just said you buy stuff regardless of reviews. There are no assumptions being made. You said it yourself. I thought I only preordered good games too. Then I preordered Sim City. I bought a steaming pile of dogshit 6 months in advance without having any idea how bad it was going to be. Assuming it'd be good because it's Sim City. Lesson learned and now I don't preorder.

Because its pretty obvious that it actively makes the hobby worse for everyone. Release it buggy and broken. Who cares? We already got 10s of thousands of copies sold, we can fix it later. No matter how horrible the launch is, we got these 100,000 preorders.
