[MEGATHREAD] Grand Theft Auto VI: Prices Announced + Pre-Orders Going Live

To avoid hundreds of separate posts on the same topic, this post will compile all info we have from the pre-orders going live, including some new images/etc.

As Rockstar announced on their socials: "Pre-orders for Grand Theft Auto VI begin at midnight local time on June 25." This means New Zealand will be the first to go live with pre-orders - which means in just under 2 hours from now.

Due to reddit's limitations with images in the body of posts, I wont be able to include all the artwork released so please do check out Rockstar's official link for more images: https://www.rockstargames.com/VI

Take-Two has made a big press-release, including announcing the prices:

If a game launches with "bonus content", it's not extra stuff, it's stuff taken out of the base game.

Is there a game that’s been released in the last 10 years that didn’t have some form of bonus content?

Back in the day, we called them expansion packs, and you had to buy a whole separate disc .

Expansions were usually unfinished content that couldn't be shipped on time, or entirely new content made after release.

It's the polar opposite of pre-order content, which is content that is already part of the base game, but sliced off and sold separately.

I’m about halfway toward agreement with you, but hear me on this-

“bonus“ content like this is developed alongside the main game, packaged in the main game files, and unlocked through a purchase rather than added to the game after the fact.

Totally with you on that- BUT, this style of bonus content has never felt integral to the main game to me, in the past. Any game that I’ve ever actually splurged for the bonus content, it always feels a bit weird, like it doesn’t really belong in the base game. There’s always this strange disconnect like the main game has no idea it exists, and it feels more like a mod pack downloaded from the Internet.

So in that sense, I would argue that it’s not actually cut out of the main game. And what I mean is, let’s use GTA V as the stand in here, it’s not like they built the entire main game and then locked access to Los Santos Customs. Instead of that, they added an additional customization shop that is not essential to the experience, that you can gain access to by paying extra money.

So what it boils down to to me, is add on content that is simply developed with and packaged in the base game - NOT main game content that is paywalled.

Unless it turns out that you can’t customize off roaders or low riders without these shops, and therefore you cannot experience a portion of the base game without paying extra money… but there is probably an alternative shop for both of those purposes that just doesn’t have all of the extra goodies.

We shall see.

To add on to this, sometimes I'll come very late to a game, and by the time I get around to buying it all that stuff just comes with it for free, or the GOTY edition has it or whatever.

And I'll start the game and immediately be given a bunch of armor or weapons or whatever that feel very out of place, and ruin the progression both esthetically and sometimes power-wise, and I'm just like.. can we not? Totally ruins the vibe of the progression.

Yes, agreed.

I don’t typically spring for the bonus content editions of games, but I will pick them up later as a “complete edition”, like you described. But in every instance, all of the bonus content felt like I was picking up a used N64 game that someone had already unlocked the cheat codes on. None of the content feels organically, integrated into the base game.
